1 Now the Philistines gathered all their forces at Aphek; and the Israelites were encamped by the fountain which is in Jezreel.	1 Tutte le schiere dei Filistei si adunarono in Afec; Israele pose il campo à presso alla fontana che era a Iezrael.
2 As the lords of the Philistines were passing on by hundreds and by thousands, and David and his men were passing on in the rear with Achish,	2 Or mentre i satrapi dei Filistei marciavano coi drappelli di cento e di miile uomini, e David con la, sua gente era nella retroguardia con Achis,
3 the commanders of the Philistines said, "What are these Hebrews doing here?" And Achish said to the commanders of the Philistines, "Is not this David, the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me now for days and years, and since he deserted to me I have found no fault in him to this day."	3 i principi dei Filistei dissero ad Achis: « Che fanno qui questi Ebrei? » Achis rispose ai principi dei Filistei: « Come? Non conoscete David, che fu servo di Saul re d'Israele, che sta con me da molti giorni, o meglio da anni, nel quale io, dal giorno in cui si rifugiò presso di me fino ad oggi, nulla ho trovato da ridire? »
4 But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him; and the commanders of the Philistines said to him, "Send the man back, that he may return to the place to which you have assigned him; he shall not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For how could this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of the men here?	4 Ma i principi dei Filistei, sdegnati contro di lui, gii dissero: « Torni indietro quest'uomo, se ne stia nel luogo dove l'hai costituito; ma non scenda con noi alla battaglia, chè non diventi nostro nemico, quando avremo cominciato a combattere. Infatti, come potrebbe egli placare il suo signore, se non colle nostre teste?
5 Is not this David, of whom they sing to one another in dances, Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands'?"	5 Non è costui quel David del quale si cantava nei cori: « Saul ha percosso i suoi mille, e David i suoi dieci mila » ?
6 Then Achish called David and said to him, "As the LORD lives, you have been honest, and to me it seems right that you should march out and in with me in the campaign; for I have found nothing wrong in you from the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless the lords do not approve of you.	6 Achis allora, chiamato David,gli disse: « Viva il Signore! Tu sei uomo retto e dabbene negli occhi miei, tal'è pur la tua condotta con me nel campo; io non ho trovato niente da ridire in te, dal giorno in cui venisti da me fino ad oggi; ma tu non piaci ai satrapi.
7 So go back now; and go peaceably, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines."	7 Torna adunque indietro e vattene in pace, per non offendere gli occhi dei satrapi dei Filistei ».
8 And David said to Achish, "But what have I done? What have you found in your servant from the day I entered your service until now, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?"	8 David disse ad Achis: « Che ho dunque fatto? che hai trovato in me tuo servo dal giorno in cui apparvi al tuo cospetto fino ad oggi, per non permettermi di venire a combattere contro i nemici del re mio signore? »
9 And Achish made answer to David, "I know that you are as blameless in my sight as an angel of God; nevertheless the commanders of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.'	9 Achis rispose e disse a David: « Io riconosco che tu sei buono negli occhi miei, come un angelo di Dio; ma i satrapi dei Filistei han detto: Egli non deve salire con noi alla battaglia,
10 Now then rise early in the morning with the servants of your lord who came with you; and start early in the morning, and depart as soon as you have light."	10 Alzati dunque di buon mattino, tu e i servi del tuo signore che sono venuti con te; alzatevi durante la notte per poter partire appena comincerà a farsi giorno ».
11 So David set out with his men early in the morning, to return to the land of the Philistines. But the Philistines went up to Jezreel.	11 David adunque si levò di notte colla sua gente per partire al mattino, e tornare nel paese dei Filistei. E i Filistei salirono a Iezrael.
