Ruth 1

1 In the days when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land, and a certain man of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons.	1 Nel tempo di uno giudice, quando i giudici erano sopra il popolo d' Israel, si fue (e venne) una gran fame (nel popolo d' Israel e ancora) in tutta la terra. E andossene di Betleem di Giuda, per andarsene in pellegrinaggio nella contrada de' Moabiti colla moglie sua e con due figliuoli, uno uomo (della schiatta de' figliuoli d' Israel),
2 The name of the man was Elimelech and the name of his wife Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion; they were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. They went into the country of Moab and remained there.	2 il quale si chiamava per nome Elimelec; e la sua moglie si chiamava Noemi; e' due suoi figliuoli, l' uno avea nome Maalon, e l'altro Chelion, Efratei di Betleem di Giuda. Ed entrati nella contrada de' Moabiti, sì si stavano quivi.
3 But Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, died, and she was left with her two sons.	3 E morissi il marito suo di Noemi, cioè Elimelec, e rimase ella co' due figliuoli.
4 These took Moabite wives; the name of the one was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth. They lived there about ten years;	4 I quali tolseno moglie della gente de' Moabiti; delle quali l' una si chiamava Orfa, l'altra Rut. E istettero quivi X anni.
5 and both Mahlon and Chilion died, so that the woman was bereft of her two sons and her husband.	5 E morirono amendui, cioè Maalon e Chelion; e rimase la femina (cioè Noemi) privata de' due suoi - figliuoli e del marito.
6 Then she started with her daughters-in-law to return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the country of Moab that the LORD had visited his people and given them food.	6 E levossi suso per ritornare nelle sue contrade con amendue le nuore sue, della contrada de' Moabiti; imperciò che avea udito (e inteso) che Iddio Signore avesse riguardato (e avuto misericordia) al popolo suo, e che avesse loro dato esca (e cibi).
7 So she set out from the place where she was, with her two daughters-in-law, and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah.	7 E uscita di quello luogo, dove era ita in peregrinaggio, con amendue le nuore sue, già s'era posta in via per tornare nella terra di Giuda.
8 But Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, "Go, return each of you to her mother's house. May the LORD deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead and with me.	8 E disse a queste due sue nuore: (pregovi, figliuole mie carissime) andatene nella casa del vostro padre, e prego Iddio che faccia misericordia con esso voi, come faceste meco e col marito mio e colli miei figliuoli che sono morti.
9 The LORD grant that you may find a home, each of you in the house of her husband!" Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and wept.	9 E sì vi dia grazia (e ventura) di trovare (pace e) riposo nelle case degli uomini i quali dovete pigliare per mariti. E dette queste parole, sì le (abbracciò e) baciò. Le quali, levando alta la voce, sì cominciarono a piangere,
10 And they said to her, "No, we will return with you to your people."	10 e a dire: noi verremo (a ogni modo) teco al popolo tuo.
11 But Naomi said, "Turn back, my daughters, why will you go with me? Have I yet sons in my womb that they may become your husbands?	11 Alle quali ella respuose: ritornatevi, figliuole mie (nel mio ventre meco io non ho più figliuoli di me), perchè venite voi meco? Or potrò io aver figliuoli nel mio ventre, che voi possiate avere di me mariti?
12 Turn back, my daughters, go your way, for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say I have hope, even if I should have a husband this night and should bear sons,	12 Ritornatevi, figliuole mie (Moabite), e andatevene; imperciò che già sono venuta in vecchiezza, e non sono disposta a legamento di marito. E ancora se fosse cosa possibile ch' io ingrossassi e partorissi figliuoli,
13 would you therefore wait till they were grown? Would you therefore refrain from marrying? No, my daughters, for it is exceedingly bitter to me for your sake that the hand of the LORD has gone forth against me."	13 se voi gli voleste aspettare insino a tanto che crescessono, e che vengano gli anni che siano grandi, innanzi sareste vecchie. Non vogliate, pregovi, figliuole mie; imperciò che la vostra (fatica e) angoscia più istrigne (e pesa), imperciò che la mano di Dio è venuta contro a me (alla sua sentenza).
14 Then they lifted up their voices and wept again; and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her.	14 E levata (una volta) la voce, cominciarono a piangere fortemente; e Orfa sì abbracciò e baciò la sua suocera, e sì tornò; ma Rut (sì tornò ed) accostossi alla suocera sua.
15 And she said, "See, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law."	15 Alla quale disse Noemi: ecco che è tornata la [tua] cognata al popolo suo (e agli idii suoi), vattene con lei.
16 But Ruth said, "Entreat me not to leave you or to return from following you; for where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God;	16 La quale sì gli respuose: (e disse alla suocera sua madre mia dolcissima) io ti prego (per amore del mio marito e tuo figliuolo che fue) che tu non mi debbi contrastare (nè mi sia contraria) ch' io t'abbandoni; è io sono acconcia d'andare e di venire; e dovunque tu andrai e istarai, io starò (e sono acconcia di vivere e di morire teco); e il popolo [tuo sarà il mio popolo, e il Dio] tuo sarà il mio Idio.
17 where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the LORD do so to me and more also if even death parts me from you."	17 In quella terra dove (ti porrai e) morrai, in quella sono ferma di morire io con te (madre mia carissima), e quivi piglierò lo luogo della mia sepoltura. Questo mi faccia il mio Signore Iddio, e questo m' aggiunga, se non solo la morte ispartirà te e me.
18 And when Naomi saw that she was determined to go with her, she said no more.	18 E veggendo Noemi, che Rut con l'animo ostinato (e fermo) avesse determinato d' andare seco insieme, non le volse più contrastare; nè poi più oltre (non la lusingò nè) non la consigliò che ritornasse a' suoi parenti.
19 So the two of them went on until they came to Bethlehem. And when they came to Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of them; and the women said, "Is this Naomi?"	19 E andàrsene insieme, e vennero in Betleem. Le quali entrate nella città, subitamente crescette la fama innanzi a tutti; e diceano le femine: quella si è quella Noemi.
20 She said to them, "Do not call me Naomi, call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.	20 Alle quali respondeva, (e dicea): non mi chiamate NOEMI, cioè bella, ma chiamatemi MARA, cioè amara; imperciò che molto m' hae piena d'amaritudine l' Onnipotente.
21 I went away full, and the LORD has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi, when the LORD has afflicted me and the Almighty has brought calamity upon me?"	21 (Ed ecco ch' ) io mi partio piena (d'ogni bene), e vôta m' hae Iddio Signore rimenata. Perchè adunque mi chiamate NOEMI, la quale hae umiliato Iddio Signore, e afflitta l' Onnipotente?
22 So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess her daughter-in-law with her, who returned from the country of Moab. And they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest.	22 E venne Noemi, con Rut sua nuora Moabita, della terra della sua peregrinazione; e tornò in Betleem, quando in prima si mieteva l' orzo.
