1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours in the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:	1 Simeão Pedro, servo e Apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, aos que receberam uma fé tão preciosa como a vossa, pela justiça de nosso Deus e Salvador Jesus Cristo.
2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.	2 Graça e paz vos sejam dadas em abundância, peio conhecimento de Deus e de Jesus, Nosso Senhor.
3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,	3 O seu divino poder deu-nos todas as coisas que dizem respeito à vida e à piedade, por meio do conhecimento daquele que nos chamou pela sua glória e virtude.
4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, that through these you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of passion, and become partakers of the divine nature.	4 Por elas nos deu estas preciosas e magnificas promessas, a fim de que assim vos torneis participantes da natureza divina, fugindo da corrupção que há no mundo pela concupiscência.
5 For this very reason make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge,	5 Ora vós, aplicando todo o cuidado, juntai à vossa fé a virtude, à virtude a ciência,
6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness,	6 à ciência a temperança, à temperança a constância, a constância a piedade,
7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.	7 à piedade o amor fraterno, ao amor fraterno a caridade.
8 For if these things are yours and abound, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.	8 Com efeito, se estas coisas se encontrarem e abundarem em vós, não vos deixarão vazios nem infrutuosos pelo conhecimento de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
9 For whoever lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.	9 Quem não tem estas coisas é um míope, um cego, e esquece-se de que foi purificado (pelo batismo) dos seus pecados antigos.
10 Therefore, brethren, be the more zealous to confirm your call and election, for if you do this you will never fall;	10 Portanto, irmãos, ponde cada vez maior cuidado em tornardes certa a vossa vocação e eleição (por meio das boas obras). Fazendo isto, não pecareis jamais.
11 so there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.	11 Deste modo vos será concedida largamente a entrada no reino eterno de Nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo.
12 Therefore I intend always to remind you of these things, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have.	12 Pelo que não cessarei de vos admoestar sempre sobre estas coisas, embora estejais instruídos e confirmados na presente verdade.
13 I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to arouse you by way of reminder,	13 Sim, considero meu dever, enquanto estou neste tabernáculo, (do meu corpo), despertar-vos com admoestações.
14 since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me.	14 sabendo que, dentro em breve, deixarei o meu tabernáculo, segundo o que me deu a entender Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
15 And I will see to it that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.	15 Mas terei cuidado de que, mesmo depois da minha morte, possais, em qualquer ocasião, recordar estas coisas.
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.	16 Efetivamente, não foi seguindo fábulas engenhosas que vos fizemos conhecer o poder e a vinda (no fim do mundo) de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, mas foi depois de termos sido espectadores da sua grandeza.
17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,"	17 De facto, ele recebeu de Deus Pai honra e glória, quando da majestosa glória desceu a ele uma voz que dizia: "Este é o meu Filho amado, em quem pus as minhas complacências."
18 we heard this voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.	18 Nós mesmos ouvimos esta voz vinda do céu, quando estávamos com ele sobre o monte santo (da Transfiguração).
19 And we have the prophetic word made more sure. You will do well to pay attention to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.	19 Temos ainda a palavra mais firme dos profetas, à qual fazeis bem em prestar atenção, como a uma lucerna que alumia num lugar escuro, até que venha o dia, e a estrelada manhã nasça em vossos corações.
20 First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation,	20 Atendei antes de tudo a isto: que nenhuma profecia da Escritura é de interpretação particular.
21 because no prophecy ever came by the impulse of man, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.	21 Com efeito, a profecia nunca foi dada pela vontade humana, mas os homens de Deus falaram inspirados pelo Espírito Santo.
