1 Agrippa said to Paul, "You have permission to speak for yourself." Then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defense:	1 Agrippa perciò disse a Paolo: Ti è permesso di parlare per te stesso. Allora Paolo stesa la mano principiò a far sua difesa.
2 "I think myself fortunate that it is before you, King Agrippa, I am to make my defense today against all the accusations of the Jews,	2 Io mi stimo fortunato, o re Agrippa, perché sono per dir mia ragione quest'oggi alla tua presenza su tutti i capi, ond'io sono accusato da' Giudei,
3 because you are especially familiar with all customs and controversies of the Jews; therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently.	3 Massimamente essendo tu conoscitore di tutte le consuetudini, e quistioni, che sono tra gli Ebrei; per la qual cosa ti prego di udirmi pazientemente.
4 "My manner of life from my youth, spent from the beginning among my own nation and at Jerusalem, is known by all the Jews.	4 E quanto alla vita, ch'io ho menato dalla gioventù tra que' della mia nazione in Gerusalemme fino da principio, ella è nota a tutti i Giudei:
5 They have known for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest party of our religion I have lived as a Pharisee.	5 I quali (se render voglion testimonianza) prima d'ora hanno saputo, com' io da prima secondo la più sicura setta della nostra religione vissi Fariseo.
6 And now I stand here on trial for hope in the promise made by God to our fathers,	6 Ora poi per la speranza della promessa fatta da Dio ai padri nostri sto qual reo in giudizio:
7 to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly worship night and day. And for this hope I am accused by Jews, O king!	7 Alla quale (promessa) le dodici nostre tribù, servendo notte, e giorno a Dio, sperano di arrivare. Per cagione di questa speranza sono io accusato da' Giudei, o re.
8 Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead?	8 Come incredibil cosa si giudica da voi, che Dio risusciti i morti?
9 "I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things in opposing the name of Jesus of Nazareth.	9 E quanto a me io mi era messo in cuore di dover fare da nemico molte cose contro il nome di Gesù Nazareno:
10 And I did so in Jerusalem; I not only shut up many of the saints in prison, by authority from the chief priests, but when they were put to death I cast my vote against them.	10 Come anche feci in Gerusalemme, e molti de' Santi io chiusi nelle prigioni, avutone il potere dai principi de' sacerdoti: e quando erano uccisi, io diedi il mio voto.
11 And I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them blaspheme; and in raging fury against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.	11 E per tutte le sinagoghe spesse volte a forza di castighi li costrìngeva a bestemmiare: e sempre pia infuriando contro di essi, li perseguitava anche per le città di fuora.
12 "Thus I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests.	12 Tra le quali cose essendo io andato in Damasco con potestà, e per commissione de' principi de' sacerdoti,
13 At midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining round me and those who journeyed with me.	13 Di mezzogiorno vidi, o re, nella strada una luce del cielo più splendente del sole lampeggiare intorno a me, e a que', ch'erano meco,
14 And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It hurts you to kick against the goads.'	14 Ed essendo noi tutti caduti per terra, udii una voce, che a me diceva in Ebreo: Saulo, Saulo perché mi perseguiti? Dura cosa è per te il ricalcitrare contro il pungolo.
15 And I said, 'Who are you, Lord?' And the Lord said, 'I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.	15 Allora io risposi: Chi se' tu, o Signore? E quegli disse: io sono Gesù, cui tu perseguiti.
16 But rise and stand upon your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you to serve and bear witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you,	16 Ma levati su, e sta' ritto su' tuoi piedi: Imperocché a questo fine ti sono apparito per costituirti ministro, e testimone delle cose, che hai vedute, e di di quelle, per le quali ti apparirò,
17 delivering you from the people and from the Gentiles--to whom I send you	17 E ti libererò da questo popolo, e da' Gentili, tra i quali ora ti mando
18 to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'	18 Ad aprile i loro occhi, affinchè si convertano dalle tenebre alla luce, e dalla podestà di Satana a Dio, affinchè ricevano la remissione de' peccali, e l'eredità trai Santi, mediante la fede, che è in me.
19 "Wherefore, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,	19 Per la qual cosa, o re Agrippa non fui ribelle alla celeste visione:
20 but declared first to those at Damascus, then at Jerusalem and throughout all the country of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God and perform deeds worthy of their repentance.	20 Ma primieramente a quelli, che sono in Damasco, e in Gerusalemme, e per tutto il paese della Giudea, di poi anche alle genti predicava, che si pentissero, e si convenissero a Dio, e facessero degne opere di penitenza.
21 For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me.	21 Per questa cagione i Giudei avendomi preso nel tempio, tentavano di uccidermi.
22 To this day I have had the help that comes from God, and so I stand here testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would come to pass:	22 Ma sostenuto dall'aiuto divino, ho perseverato sino a questo giorno, insegnando ai piccoli, e ai grandi, niun' altra cosa dicendo fuori di quello, che i profeti, e Mosè hanno detto dover succedere,
23 that the Christ must suffer, and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to the people and to the Gentiles."	23 Che il Cristo dovea patire, che essendo egli il primo a risorger da morte, annunziar dee la luce a questo popolo, e alle nazioni.
24 And as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, "Paul, you are mad; your great learning is turning you mad."	24 Tali cose dicendo egli in sua difesa. Pesto ad alta voce disse: Tu se' impazzito, o Paolo: la molta dottrina ti fa dare in pazzie.
25 But Paul said, "I am not mad, most excellent Festus, but I am speaking the sober truth.	25 Ma Paolo: Non son pazzo, disse, o ottimo Festo, ma proferisco parole diverità, e di saggezza.
26 For the king knows about these things, and to him I speak freely; for I am persuaded that none of these things has escaped his notice, for this was not done in a corner.	26 Imperocché sono note queste cose al re, dinanzi a cui liberamente ragiono: dacché niuna di queste cose credo nascosta a lui. Conciossiachè niente di questo è stato fatto in un cantone.
27 King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe."	27 Credi tu, o re Agrippa, ai profeti? So, che tu credi.
28 And Agrippa said to Paul, "In a short time you think to make me a Christian!"	28 Ma Agrippa disse a Paolo: Quasi quasi mi persuadi a diventar Cristiano.
29 And Paul said, "Whether short or long, I would to God that not only you but also all who hear me this day might become such as I am--except for these chains."	29 E Paolo: Bramo da Dio, che o quasi, o senza quasi non solamente tu, ma anche tutti que', che mi ascoltano, diventiate oggi quale son io, eccettuate queste catene.
30 Then the king rose, and the governor and Bernice and those who were sitting with them;	30 E si alzò il re, e il preside, e Berenice, e quelli, che sedevano con essi.
31 and when they had withdrawn, they said to one another, "This man is doing nothing to deserve death or imprisonment."	31 E ritiratisi in disparte, discorrevan tra loro, dicendo: Quest' uomo non ha fatto cosa, che meriti morte, o prigionia.
32 And Agrippa said to Festus, "This man could have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar."	32 E Agrippa disse a Festo: Quest'uomo poteva essere liberato, se non avesse appellato a Cesare.
