1 About that time Herod the king laid violent hands upon some who belonged to the church.	1 C’est alors que le roi Hérode mit la main sur plusieurs membres de l’Église qu’il voulait mettre à mal.
2 He killed James the brother of John with the sword;	2 Il fit tuer par l’épée Jacques, frère de Jean.
3 and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread.	3 Voyant que cela plaisait aux Juifs, il fit arrêter également Pierre; c’était juste la semaine des Pains sans Levain.
4 And when he had seized him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people.	4 Il le fit détenir et mettre en prison, avec quatre escouades de quatre soldats chargées de le garder, car son idée était de le faire comparaître devant le peuple après la Pâque.
5 So Peter was kept in prison; but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church.	5 Et pendant que Pierre était en prison sous bonne garde, la prière ininterrompue de l’Église montait pour lui vers Dieu.
6 The very night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison;	6 On arrivait au jour où Hérode devait le faire comparaître; cette nuit même Pierre dormait entre deux soldats, lié par deux chaînes, et des gardes devant la porte gardaient la prison.
7 and behold, an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, "Get up quickly." And the chains fell off his hands.	7 D’un seul coup une lumière resplendit dans la pièce: l’ange du Seigneur est là! Il frappe Pierre au côté et le réveille en lui disant: "Vite, lève-toi!” Au même moment les chaînes tombent de ses mains.
8 And the angel said to him, "Dress yourself and put on your sandals." And he did so. And he said to him, "Wrap your mantle around you and follow me."	8 L’ange lui dit: "Passe ta ceinture et attache tes sandales.” Pierre le fait. Il lui dit: "Enveloppe-toi de ton manteau et suis-moi.”
9 And he went out and followed him; he did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.	9 Pierre sort et le suit. Pierre ne voyait pas que tout ce qu’il faisait avec l’ange était du réel: il croyait rêver.
10 When they had passed the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate leading into the city. It opened to them of its own accord, and they went out and passed on through one street; and immediately the angel left him.	10 Ils passent le premier poste de garde, puis le second, et ils arrivent à la porte de fer qui donne à la rue: elle s’ouvre d’elle-même devant eux et ils sortent. Ils enfilent une première rue, puis l’ange le laisse.
11 And Peter came to himself, and said, "Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting."	11 Alors Pierre reprend conscience et il dit: "Cette fois-ci, c’est bien vrai, je vois que le Seigneur a envoyé son ange pour me tirer des mains d’Hérode et de tout ce que le peuple juif me tenait préparé.”
12 When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.	12 Après un moment de réflexion il se dirige vers la maison de Marie, mère de Jean surnommé Marc, où beaucoup de personnes se sont réunies pour prier.
13 And when he knocked at the door of the gateway, a maid named Rhoda came to answer.	13 Quand il frappe à la porte du portail, une jeune servante du nom de Rodé s’approche pour écouter.
14 Recognizing Peter's voice, in her joy she did not open the gate but ran in and told that Peter was standing at the gate.	14 Elle reconnaît la voix de Pierre, et c’est une telle joie qu’au lieu d’ouvrir le portail elle rentre en courant pour annoncer que Pierre est là devant le portail.
15 They said to her, "You are mad." But she insisted that it was so. They said, "It is his angel!"	15 Les autres lui disent: "Tu es folle!” Et comme elle insiste que c’est bien lui, on lui répond: "C’est sans doute son ange.”
16 But Peter continued knocking; and when they opened, they saw him and were amazed.	16 Pendant ce temps Pierre continuait de frapper. On finit par lui ouvrir et on n’en revient pas de le voir ainsi.
17 But motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, "Tell this to James and to the brethren." Then he departed and went to another place.	17 Pierre leur fait signe de la main pour qu’ils se taisent, et il leur raconte comment le Seigneur l’a fait sortir de la prison. Puis il leur dit: "Faites-le savoir à Jacques et aux frères.” Après quoi il sort et se dirige vers un autre endroit.
18 Now when day came, there was no small stir among the soldiers over what had become of Peter.	18 Quand il fit jour, ce fut une commotion peu ordinaire chez les soldats: Qu’était devenu Pierre?
19 And when Herod had sought for him and could not find him, he examined the sentries and ordered that they should be put to death. Then he went down from Judea to Caesarea, and remained there.	19 Hérode le fit rechercher et ne le trouva pas. Il fit donc interroger les gardes et ordonna de les mettre à mort. Peu après il descendait de Judée à Césarée où il demeura.
20 Now Herod was angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; and they came to him in a body, and having persuaded Blastus, the king's chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king's country for food.	20 Hérode était alors en conflit avec les habitants de Tyr et de Sidon. Ceux-ci se mirent d’accord pour se présenter devant lui car leur territoire dépendait de celui du roi pour son alimentation. Ils gagnèrent à leur cause Blastos, le maître du palais du roi, et ils demandèrent la paix.
21 On an appointed day Herod put on his royal robes, took his seat upon the throne, and made an oration to them.	21 Au jour fixé Hérode vint s’asseoir à la tribune, vêtu des habits royaux, et leur fit un discours officiel.
22 And the people shouted, "The voice of a god, and not of man!"	22 Tout le peuple reprenait les acclamations: "Ce n’est pas la voix d’un homme, c’est la voix d’un dieu!”
23 Immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he did not give God the glory; and he was eaten by worms and died.	23 Mais sans avertir un ange le frappa, car il n’avait pas rendu gloire à Dieu. Des vers commencèrent à le ronger et il rendit l’âme.
24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.	24 La parole de Dieu se répandait, se multipliait.
25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had fulfilled their mission, bringing with them John whose other name was Mark.	25 C’est alors que Barnabé et Saul revinrent de Jérusalem ayant accompli leur service; ils amenaient avec eux Jean, surnommé Marc.
