John 10

1 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber;	1 «In verità, in verità io vi dico: chi non entra nel recinto delle pecore dalla porta, ma vi sale da un’altra parte, è un ladro e un brigante.
2 but he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.	2 Chi invece entra dalla porta, è pastore delle pecore.
3 To him the gatekeeper opens; the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.	3 Il guardiano gli apre e le pecore ascoltano la sua voce: egli chiama le sue pecore, ciascuna per nome, e le conduce fuori.
4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.	4 E quando ha spinto fuori tutte le sue pecore, cammina davanti a esse, e le pecore lo seguono perché conoscono la sua voce.
5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers."	5 Un estraneo invece non lo seguiranno, ma fuggiranno via da lui, perché non conoscono la voce degli estranei».
6 This figure Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.	6 Gesù disse loro questa similitudine, ma essi non capirono di che cosa parlava loro.
7 So Jesus again said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.	7 Allora Gesù disse loro di nuovo: «In verità, in verità io vi dico: io sono la porta delle pecore.
8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not heed them.	8 Tutti coloro che sono venuti prima di me, sono ladri e briganti; ma le pecore non li hanno ascoltati.
9 I am the door; if any one enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.	9 Io sono la porta: se uno entra attraverso di me, sarà salvato; entrerà e uscirà e troverà pascolo.
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.	10 Il ladro non viene se non per rubare, uccidere e distruggere; io sono venuto perché abbiano la vita e l’abbiano in abbondanza.
11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.	11 Io sono il buon pastore. Il buon pastore dà la propria vita per le pecore.
12 He who is a hireling and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.	12 Il mercenario – che non è pastore e al quale le pecore non appartengono – vede venire il lupo, abbandona le pecore e fugge, e il lupo le rapisce e le disperde;
13 He flees because he is a hireling and cares nothing for the sheep.	13 perché è un mercenario e non gli importa delle pecore.
14 I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me,	14 Io sono il buon pastore, conosco le mie pecore e le mie pecore conoscono me,
15 as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.	15 così come il Padre conosce me e io conosco il Padre, e do la mia vita per le pecore.
16 And I have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock, one shepherd.	16 E ho altre pecore che non provengono da questo recinto: anche quelle io devo guidare. Ascolteranno la mia voce e diventeranno un solo gregge, un solo pastore.
17 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.	17 Per questo il Padre mi ama: perché io do la mia vita, per poi riprenderla di nuovo.
18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again; this charge I have received from my Father."	18 Nessuno me la toglie: io la do da me stesso. Ho il potere di darla e il potere di riprenderla di nuovo. Questo è il comando che ho ricevuto dal Padre mio».
19 There was again a division among the Jews because of these words.	19 Sorse di nuovo dissenso tra i Giudei per queste parole.
20 Many of them said, "He has a demon, and he is mad; why listen to him?"	20 Molti di loro dicevano: «È indemoniato ed è fuori di sé; perché state ad ascoltarlo?».
21 Others said, "These are not the sayings of one who has a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?"	21 Altri dicevano: «Queste parole non sono di un indemoniato; può forse un demonio aprire gli occhi ai ciechi?».
22 It was the feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem;	22 Ricorreva allora a Gerusalemme la festa della Dedicazione. Era inverno.
23 it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon.	23 Gesù camminava nel tempio, nel portico di Salomone.
24 So the Jews gathered round him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly."	24 Allora i Giudei gli si fecero attorno e gli dicevano: «Fino a quando ci terrai nell’incertezza? Se tu sei il Cristo, dillo a noi apertamente».
25 Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness to me;	25 Gesù rispose loro: «Ve l’ho detto, e non credete; le opere che io compio nel nome del Padre mio, queste danno testimonianza di me.
26 but you do not believe, because you do not belong to my sheep.	26 Ma voi non credete perché non fate parte delle mie pecore.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me;	27 Le mie pecore ascoltano la mia voce e io le conosco ed esse mi seguono.
28 and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.	28 Io do loro la vita eterna e non andranno perdute in eterno e nessuno le strapperà dalla mia mano.
29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.	29 Il Padre mio, che me le ha date, è più grande di tutti e nessuno può strapparle dalla mano del Padre.
30 I and the Father are one."	30 Io e il Padre siamo una cosa sola».
31 The Jews took up stones again to stone him.	31 Di nuovo i Giudei raccolsero delle pietre per lapidarlo.
32 Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of these do you stone me?"	32 Gesù disse loro: «Vi ho fatto vedere molte opere buone da parte del Padre: per quale di esse volete lapidarmi?».
33 The Jews answered him, "It is not for a good work that we stone you but for blasphemy; because you, being a man, make yourself God."	33 Gli risposero i Giudei: «Non ti lapidiamo per un’opera buona, ma per una bestemmia: perché tu, che sei uomo, ti fai Dio».
34 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said, you are gods?	34 Disse loro Gesù: «Non è forse scritto nella vostra Legge: Io ho detto: voi siete dèi?
35 If he called them gods to whom the word of God came (and scripture cannot be broken),	35 Ora, se essa ha chiamato dèi coloro ai quali fu rivolta la parola di Dio – e la Scrittura non può essere annullata –,
36 do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God?	36 a colui che il Padre ha consacrato e mandato nel mondo voi dite: “Tu bestemmi”, perché ho detto: “Sono Figlio di Dio”?
37 If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me;	37 Se non compio le opere del Padre mio, non credetemi;
38 but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father."	38 ma se le compio, anche se non credete a me, credete alle opere, perché sappiate e conosciate che il Padre è in me, e io nel Padre».
39 Again they tried to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands.	39 Allora cercarono nuovamente di catturarlo, ma egli sfuggì dalle loro mani.
40 He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John at first baptized, and there he remained.	40 Ritornò quindi nuovamente al di là del Giordano, nel luogo dove prima Giovanni battezzava, e qui rimase.
41 And many came to him; and they said, "John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true."	41 Molti andarono da lui e dicevano: «Giovanni non ha compiuto nessun segno, ma tutto quello che Giovanni ha detto di costui era vero».
42 And many believed in him there.	42 E in quel luogo molti credettero in lui.
