Deuteronomy 28

1 "And if you obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments which I command you this day, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.	1 Or se ascolterai la voce del Signore Dio tuo, se ne metterai in pratica e ne osserverai i comandamenti che oggi io ti prescrivo il Signore Dio fino ti farà eccelso fra tutte le nazioni che sono sopra la terra;
2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God.	2 e tutte queste benedizioni verranro sopra di te, si compiranno in te, dato però che tu ascolti i suoi precetti.
3 Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field.	3 Sarai benedetto nella città e benedetto nella campagna.
4 Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your beasts, the increase of your cattle, and the young of your flock.	4 Benedetto il frutto del tuo seno, il frutto della tua terra, il frutto dei tuoi bestiami, le mandre dei tuoi armenti, i greggi delle tue pecore.
5 Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading-trough.	5 Benedetti i tuoi granai, benedette le tue riserve.
6 Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.	6 Sarai benedetto nell'entrare e nell'uscire.
7 "The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you; they shall come out against you one way, and flee before you seven ways.	7 Il Signore ti farà cadere davanti i nemici che ti si son levati contro; verranno a te per una sola via; ma per sette fuggiranno dal tuo cospetto.
8 The LORD will command the blessing upon you in your barns, and in all that you undertake; and he will bless you in the land which the LORD your God gives you.	8 Il Signore manderà la sua benedizione nelle tue dispense e sopra tutti i lavori delle tue mani,
9 The LORD will establish you as a people holy to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and walk in his ways.	9 e ti benedirà nella terra come popolo santo, come egli ti ha giurato, se però tu osservi i comandamenti del Signore Dio tuo, e cammini nelle sue vie,
10 And all the peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of you.	10 e tutti i popoli della terra, vedendo che il nome del Signore è invocato sopra di te, ti temeranno.
11 And the LORD will make you abound in prosperity, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your ground, within the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you.	11 Il Signore ti colmerà d'ogni bene: del frutto del tuo seno, del frutto dei tuoi bestiami, del frutto della tua terra che il Signore giurò ai tuoi padri di darti.
12 The LORD will open to you his good treasury the heavens, to give the rain of your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.	12 Il Signore aprirà il suo ottimo tesoro, il cielo, per dare a suo tempo la pioggia alla tua terra, e ti benedirà in tutte le opere delle tue mani. E tu presterai a molte genti, senza prendere in prestito da nessuno.
13 And the LORD will make you the head, and not the tail; and you shall tend upward only, and not downward; if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day, being careful to do them,	13 Il Signore ti metterà alla testa e non in coda; tu sarai sempre in alto e mai in basso; se però ascolterai i comandamenti del Signore Dio tuo, che oggi ti prescrivo, se li osserverai e metterai in pratica,
14 and if you do not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.	14 senza torcer da essi nè a destra nè a sinistra, senza seguire dèi stranieri, senza adorarli.
15 "But if you will not obey the voice of the LORD your God or be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command you this day, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you.	15 Ma se non vorrai ascoltare la voce del Signore Dio tuo, e non ti curerai di mettere in pratica tutti i suoi comandamenti e le sue cerimonie che oggi ti prescrivo, tutte queste maledizioni verranno sopra di te e ti arriveranno.
16 Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the field.	16 Sarai maledetto nella città, maledetto nella campagna;
17 Cursed shall be your basket and your kneading-trough.	17 maledetto il tuo granaio e ma ledetti i tuoi avanzi;
18 Cursed shall be the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your ground, the increase of your cattle, and the young of your flock.	18 maledetto il frutto del tuo seno, il frutto della tua terra, le mandre dei tuoi buoi e i greggi delle tue pecore.
19 Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out.	19 Sarai maledetto nell'entrare e nell'uscire.
20 "The LORD will send upon you curses, confusion, and frustration, in all that you undertake to do, until you are destroyed and perish quickly, on account of the evil of your doings, because you have forsaken me.	20 Il Signore manderà sopra di te la fame e la carestia, e la maledizione sopra tutte le opere che farai, finché tu non sia distrutto, annientato a causa delle tue pessime invenzioni, per le quali tu m'hai abbandonato.
21 The LORD will make the pestilence cleave to you until he has consumed you off the land which you are entering to take possession of it.	21 Il Signore ti aggiunga a peste, finché essa non t'abbia sterminato dalla terra nella quale entrerai per possederla.
22 The LORD will smite you with consumption, and with fever, inflammation, and fiery heat, and with drought, and with blasting, and with mildew; they shall pursue you until you perish.	22 Ti percuota il Signore colla povertà, colla febbre, col freddo, col calore, colla siccità, coll'aria corrotta e colla ruggine, e ti perseguiti finché tu non sia perito.
23 And the heavens over your head shall be brass, and the earth under you shall be iron.	23 Sia di bronzo il cielo che ti sovrasta, e di ferro la terra che tu calpesti.
24 The LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust; from heaven it shall come down upon you until you are destroyed.	24 Il Signore mandi sabbia invece di pioggia alla tua terra, e dal cielo ti cada addosso della cenere, finché tu non sia distrutto.
25 "The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies; you shall go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them; and you shall be a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.	25 Il Signore ti faccia cadere davanti ai tuoi nemici e tu, uscito per una sola via contro di essi, te ne fugga per sette. Tu sia disperso per tutti i popoli della terra.
26 And your dead body shall be food for all birds of the air, and for the beasts of the earth; and there shall be no one to frighten them away.	26 Sia il tuo cadavere in pasto a tutti gli uccelli del cielo e alle bestie della terra, e non vi sia chi le discacci.
27 The LORD will smite you with the boils of Egypt, and with the ulcers and the scurvy and the itch, of which you cannot be healed.	27 Ti percuota il Signore coll'ulcere d'Egitto, e nella parte del corpo da cui escon gli escrementi, e colla scabbia, e col prurito da cui tu non possa guarire.
28 The LORD will smite you with madness and blindness and confusion of mind;	28 Ti percuota il Signore colla demenza, colla cecità, col delirio,
29 and you shall grope at noonday, as the blind grope in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways; and you shall be only oppressed and robbed continually, and there shall be no one to help you.	29 se tu vada a tastoni in pieno meriggio, come un cieco brancolante nel buio, e non possa trovar le tue vie. Tu sia in ogni tempo vittima della calunnia, oppresso dalla violenza, senza aver chi te ne liberi.
30 You shall betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her; you shall build a house, and you shall not dwell in it; you shall plant a vineyard, and you shall not use the fruit of it.	30 Quando prendi moglie, un altro giaccia con lei; se fabbrichi una casa, l'abiti un altro: se pianti una vigna, non ne possa godere il frutto.
31 Your ox shall be slain before your eyes, and you shall not eat of it; your ass shall be violently taken away before your face, and shall not be restored to you; your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and there shall be no one to help you.	31 Il tuo bue sia immolato davanti a te, senza che tu possa mangiarne le carni. Ti sia rapito in presenza l'asino, senza esserti restituito. Le tue pecore sian date ai tuoi nemici, e non vi sia chi ti soccorra.
32 Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, while your eyes look on and fail with longing for them all the day; and it shall not be in the power of your hand to prevent it.	32 I tuoi figli e le tue figlie sian date a un popolo straniero, e lo vedano tuoi occhi, e vengan meno a mirarli tutto il giorno; ma non vi sia forza nella tua mano.
33 A nation which you have not known shall eat up the fruit of your ground and of all your labors; and you shall be only oppressed and crushed continually;	33 Un popolo a te ignoto mangi i frutti della tua terra e di tutte le tue fatiche: tu sia sempre vittima della calunnia e dell'oppressione,
34 so that you shall be driven mad by the sight which your eyes shall see.	34 e fuor di te per l'orror di quei che vedranno i tuoi occhi.
35 The LORD will smite you on the knees and on the legs with grievous boils of which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.	35 Il Signore ti percuota con ulcera maligna nelle ginocchia e nelle gambe, e tu non possa esser curato dalla pianta dei piedi sino al vertice del capo,
36 "The LORD will bring you, and your king whom you set over you, to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known; and there you shall serve other gods, of wood and stone.	36 il Signore ti condurrà col tuo re da te eletto, in una nazione che nè tu nè i tuoi padri avete conosciuta, ed ivi servirai a dèi stranieri, al legno e alla pietra.
37 And you shall become a horror, a proverb, and a byword, among all the peoples where the LORD will lead you away.	37 Sarai disperso, e diverrai la favola e il proverbio di tutti i popoli tra i quali il Signore ti avrà condotto.
38 You shall carry much seed into the field, and shall gather little in; for the locust shall consume it.	38 Seminerai molto, ma raccoglierai poco, perchè tutto sarà divorato dalle locuste,
39 You shall plant vineyards and dress them, but you shall neither drink of the wine nor gather the grapes; for the worm shall eat them.	39 pianterai la vigna e vi lavorerai; ma non ne berrai il vino, non vi raccoglierai nulla; perchè sarà devastata dai vermi.
40 You shall have olive trees throughout all your territory, but you shall not anoint yourself with the oil; for your olives shall drop off.	40 Sebbene tu abbia degli ulivi in tutte le tue terre, non potrai ungerti d'olio, perchè le ulive cadranno e andranno a male.
41 You shall beget sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours; for they shall go into captivity.	41 Tu genererai figli e figlie; ma non li potrai godere, perchè saranno menati in schiavitù.
42 All your trees and the fruit of your ground the locust shall possess.	42 La ruggine consumerà tutti i tuoi alberi e i frutti della tua terra.
43 The sojourner who is among you shall mount above you higher and higher; and you shall come down lower and lower.	43 Il forestiero che abita con te nel paese salirà sopra di te e diverrà più potente, e tu andrai in basso e starai al di sotto.
44 He shall lend to you, and you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail.	44 Egli presterà a te, e tu non potrai prestare a lui, egli sarà capo e tu coda.
45 All these curses shall come upon you and pursue you and overtake you, till you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the LORD your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded you.	45 E tutte queste maledizioni verranno sopra di te, e ti staranno addosso finché non ti abbian distrutto per non avere ascoltato la voce del Signore Dio tuo, e non averne osservati i comandamenti e le cerimonie che ti prescrisse.
46 They shall be upon you as a sign and a wonder, and upon your descendants for ever.	46 Esse rimarranno sopra di te e della tua discendenza, come segni e prodigi in perpetuo.
47 "Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joyfulness and gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things,	47 Siccome non hai servito al Signore Dio tuo nella gioia, e nella letizia del cuore, in mezzo all'abbondanza d'ogni cosa;
48 therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger and thirst, in nakedness, and in want of all things; and he will put a yoke of iron upon your neck, until he has destroyed you.	48 tu servirai al tuo nemico mandato contro di te dal Signore,nella fame, nella sete, nella nudità, nella mancanza di tutto, ed egli ti metterà sopra il collo un giogo di ferro sino a che tu non sia schiacciato.
49 The LORD will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you do not understand,	49 Da lontano, dagli ultimi confini della terra, il Signore farà piombare sopra di te, come aquila che vola impetuosamente,
50 a nation of stern countenance, who shall not regard the person of the old or show favor to the young,	50 una nazione di cui non potrai intendere la lingua, souna nazione piena d'arroganza, che non ha rispetto al vecchio, nè compassione pel fanciullo.
51 and shall eat the offspring of your cattle and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed; who also shall not leave you grain, wine, or oil, the increase of your cattle or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish.	51 Essa divorerà il frutto dei tuoi bestiame e le biade della tua terra, finché non ti abbia fatto perire. Non ti lascerà nè grano, nè vino, nè olio, nè mandre di buoi, nè greggi di pecore, finché non ti abbia disperso;
52 They shall besiege you in all your towns, until your high and fortified walls, in which you trusted, come down throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you in all your towns throughout all your land, which the LORD your God has given you.	52 e ti schiaccerà nelle tue città finché non sian distrutte le tue mura solide e alte nelle quali avevi fiducia in tutta la tua terra. Tu sarai assediato dentro le tue porte in tutta la terra che il Signore Dio tuo ti darà;
53 And you shall eat the offspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemies shall distress you.	53 e mangerai il frutto delle tue viscere, le carni dei figli e delle figlie che il Signore Dio tuo ti avrà date, nell'angustia e nella desolazione con cui ti opprimerà il tuo nemico.
54 The man who is the most tender and delicately bred among you will grudge food to his brother, to the wife of his bosom, and to the last of the children who remain to him;	54 L'uomo fra voi più delicato e voluttuoso porterà invidia al proprio fratello, e alla moglie che riposa sul suo seno,
55 so that he will not give to any of them any of the flesh of his children whom he is eating, because he has nothing left him, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in all your towns.	55 e non farà loro parte delle carni dei suoi figlioli, delle quali si ciberà, non avendo altro nell'assedio e nella penuria colla quale i tuoi nemici ti affliggeranno dentro tutte le tue porte.
56 The most tender and delicately bred woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot upon the ground because she is so delicate and tender, will grudge to the husband of her bosom, to her son and to her daughter,	56 La donna tenera e delicata che non poteva camminare sulla terra nè posarvi la pianta del piede per la sua eccessiva mollezza e delicatezza, rifiuterà al suo marito, che le riposa in seno, le carni del suo figlio e della sua figlia,
57 her afterbirth that comes out from between her feet and her children whom she bears, because she will eat them secretly, for want of all things, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in your towns.	57 e l'ammasso di sozzure che escono dal suo ventre, e i figli allora nati; perchè stretti dalla penuria di ogni cosa nell'assedio e nella devastazione con cui ti opprimerà il tuo nemico dentro le tue porte, li mangeranno di nascosto.
58 "If you are not careful to do all the words of this law which are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awful name, the LORD your God,	58 Se tu non custodirai e non metterai in pratica tutte le parole di questa legge, che sono scritte in questo volume, se non temerai il nome glorioso e terribile del Signore Dio tuo,
59 then the LORD will bring on you and your offspring extraordinary afflictions, afflictions severe and lasting, and sicknesses grievous and lasting.	59 il Signore aumenterà le tue piaghe e quelle della tua discendenza, piaghe grandi e ostinate, malori orrendi e perpetui.
60 And he will bring upon you again all the diseases of Egypt, which you were afraid of; and they shall cleave to you.	60 E volgerà sopra di te tutte le malattie dell'Egitto, delle quali avevi tanta paura: esse ti si attaccheranno.
61 Every sickness also, and every affliction which is not recorded in the book of this law, the LORD will bring upon you, until you are destroyed.	61 Di più il Signore farà piombare sopra di te tutte le altre malattie e piaghe che non sono scritte in questo libro della legge, finché tu non sia distrutto.
62 Whereas you were as the stars of heaven for multitude, you shall be left few in number; because you did not obey the voice of the LORD your God.	62 E resterete in piccolo numero, voi che eravate numerosi come le stelle del cielo, perchè non ascoltasti la voce del Signore Dio tuo.
63 And as the LORD took delight in doing you good and multiplying you, so the LORD will take delight in bringing ruin upon you and destroying you; and you shall be plucked off the land which you are entering to take possession of it.	63 E come nel passato il Signore godeva nel farvi del bene e moltiplicarvi, così godrà nel disperdervi, nello sterminarvi, finché non siate svelti da quella terra della quale tu entrerai in possesso.
64 And the LORD will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other; and there you shall serve other gods, of wood and stone, which neither you nor your fathers have known.	64 Il Signore ti disperderà fra tutte le genti, da un'estremità della terra fino all'altra, e là servirai a dèi stranieri non conosciuti nè da te, nè dai tuoi padri, ai legni e alle pietre.
65 And among these nations you shall find no ease, and there shall be no rest for the sole of your foot; but the LORD will give you there a trembling heart, and failing eyes, and a languishing soul;	65 Ma nemmeno tra quelle genti avrai requie, nè avrà riposo la pianta del tuo piede, chè il Signore là ti farà avere un cuor pauroso, e occhi smarriti, e anima consumata dalla tristezza:
66 your life shall hang in doubt before you; night and day you shall be in dread, and have no assurance of your life.	66 vedrai la tua vita come sospesa ad un filo: notte e giorno tremerai per la tua vita punto sicura.
67 In the morning you shall say, 'Would it were evening!' and at evening you shall say, 'Would it were morning!' because of the dread which your heart shall fear, and the sights which your eyes shall see.	67 La mattina dirai: Oh, fosse sera! E la sera: Oh, fosse mattina! per lo spavento che ti sbigottisce il cuore, per le cose che vedrai coi tuoi occhi.
68 And the LORD will bring you back in ships to Egypt, a journey which I promised that you should never make again; and there you shall offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no man will buy you."	68 Il Signore ti ricondurrà su navi in Egitto, per la via della quale egli t'ha detto che non la rivedresti mai più. Ivi sarete venduti ai vostri nemici come schiavi e schiave e non ci sarà chi vi compri.
