Deuteronomy 24

1 "When a man takes a wife and marries her, if then she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a bill of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, and she departs out of his house,	1 Soit un homme qui a pris une femme et consommé son mariage; mais cette femme n'a pastrouvé grâce à ses yeux, et il a découvert une tare à lui imputer; il a donc rédigé pour elle un acte de répudiationet le lui a remis, puis il l'a renvoyée de chez lui;
2 and if she goes and becomes another man's wife,	2 elle a quitté sa maison, s'en est allée et a appartenu à un autre homme.
3 and the latter husband dislikes her and writes her a bill of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband dies, who took her to be his wife,	3 Si alors cet autre homme la prend en aversion, rédige pour elle un acte de répudiation, le luiremet et la renvoie de chez lui (ou si vient à mourir cet autre homme qui l'a prise pour femme),
4 then her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the LORD, and you shall not bring guilt upon the land which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance.	4 son premier mari qui l'a répudiée ne pourra la reprendre pour femme, après qu'elle s'est ainsirendue impure. Car il y a là une abomination aux yeux de Yahvé, et tu ne dois pas faire pécher le pays queYahvé ton Dieu te donne en héritage.
5 "When a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be charged with any business; he shall be free at home one year, to be happy with his wife whom he has taken.	5 Si un homme vient de prendre femme, il n'ira pas à l'armée et on ne viendra pas chez luil'importuner, il restera un an chez lui, quitte de toute affaire, pour la joie de la femme qu'il a prise.
6 "No man shall take a mill or an upper millstone in pledge; for he would be taking a life in pledge.	6 On ne prendra pas en gage le moulin ni la meule: ce serait prendre la vie même en gage.
7 "If a man is found stealing one of his brethren, the people of Israel, and if he treats him as a slave or sells him, then that thief shall die; so you shall purge the evil from the midst of you.	7 Si on trouve un homme qui enlève l'un de ses frères, parmi les Israélites, -- qu'il l'exploitelui-même ou qu'il le vende, -- ce voleur mourra. Tu feras disparaître le mal du milieu de toi.
8 "Take heed, in an attack of leprosy, to be very careful to do according to all that the Levitical priests shall direct you; as I commanded them, so you shall be careful to do.	8 En cas de lèpre, prends garde d'observer soigneusement et de suivre intégralement tout ceque vous enseigneront les prêtres lévites. Vous observerez et mettrez en pratique ce que je leur aurai ordonné.
9 Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam on the way as you came forth out of Egypt.	9 Rappelle-toi ce que Yahvé ton Dieu a fait à Miryam, quand vous étiez en chemin au sortird'Egypte.
10 "When you make your neighbor a loan of any sort, you shall not go into his house to fetch his pledge.	10 Si tu prêtes sur gages à ton prochain, tu n'entreras pas dans sa maison pour saisir le gage,quel qu'il soit.
11 You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you make the loan shall bring the pledge out to you.	11 Tu te tiendras dehors et l'homme auquel tu prêtes t'apportera le gage dehors.
12 And if he is a poor man, you shall not sleep in his pledge;	12 Et si c'est un homme d'humble condition, tu n'iras pas te coucher en gardant son gage,
13 when the sun goes down, you shall restore to him the pledge that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you; and it shall be righteousness to you before the LORD your God.	13 tu lui rendras au coucher du soleil, il se couchera dans son manteau, il te bénira et ce seraune bonne action aux yeux de Yahvé ton Dieu.
14 "You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brethren or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your towns;	14 Tu n'exploiteras pas le salarié humble et pauvre, qu'il soit d'entre tes frères ou étranger enrésidence chez toi.
15 you shall give him his hire on the day he earns it, before the sun goes down (for he is poor, and sets his heart upon it); lest he cry against you to the LORD, and it be sin in you.	15 Chaque jour tu lui donneras son salaire, sans laisser le soleil se coucher sur cette dette; caril est pauvre et il attend impatiemment ce salaire. Ainsi n'en appellera-t-il pas à Yahvé contre toi. Autrement tuserais en faute.
16 "The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor shall the children be put to death for the fathers; every man shall be put to death for his own sin.	16 Les pères ne seront pas mis à mort pour les fils, ni les fils pour les pères. Chacun sera mis àmort pour son propre crime.
17 "You shall not pervert the justice due to the sojourner or to the fatherless, or take a widow's garment in pledge;	17 Tu ne porteras pas atteinte au droit de l'étranger et de l'orphelin, et tu ne prendras pas engage le vêtement de la veuve.
18 but you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt and the LORD your God redeemed you from there; therefore I command you to do this.	18 Souviens-toi que tu as été en servitude au pays d'Egypte et que Yahvé ton Dieu t'en aracheté; aussi je t'ordonne de mettre cette parole en pratique.
19 "When you reap your harvest in your field, and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow; that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.	19 Lorsque tu feras la moisson dans ton champ, si tu oublies une gerbe au champ, ne revienspas la chercher. Elle sera pour l'étranger, l'orphelin et la veuve, afin que Yahvé ton Dieu te bénisse dans toutestes oeuvres.
20 When you beat your olive trees, you shall not go over the boughs again; it shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.	20 Lorsque tu gauleras ton olivier, tu n'iras rien y rechercher ensuite. Ce qui restera sera pourl'étranger, l'orphelin et la veuve.
21 When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean it afterward; it shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.	21 Lorsque tu vendangeras ta vigne, tu n'iras rien y grappiller ensuite. Ce qui restera sera pourl'étranger, l'orphelin et la veuve.
22 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I command you to do this.	22 Et tu te souviendras que tu as été en servitude au pays d'Egypte; aussi je t'ordonne de mettrecette parole en pratique.
