Deuteronomy 14

1 "You are the sons of the LORD your God; you shall not cut yourselves or make any baldness on your foreheads for the dead.	1 - Siate figli del Signore Dio vostro. Non vi fate incisioni, e non vi radete i capelli a causa d'un morto.
2 For you are a people holy to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, out of all the peoples that are on the face of the earth.	2 Perchè tu sei un popolo santo riserbato al Signore Dio tuo, ed egli t'ha eletto acciò tu sia per lui il popolo suo particolare fra tutte le genti che son sulla terra.
3 "You shall not eat any abominable thing.	3 Non mangiate di ciò che è immondo.
4 These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,	4 I quadrupedi che dovete mangiare sono questi: il bove, la pecora, la capra,
5 the hart, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the mountain-sheep.	5 il cervo, il capriolo, il bufalo, il tragelafo, il pigargo, l'orige, il camelopardo.
6 Every animal that parts the hoof and has the hoof cloven in two, and chews the cud, among the animals, you may eat.	6 Mangerete insomma d'ogni animale che ha l'unghia fessa, e che rumina.
7 Yet of those that chew the cud or have the hoof cloven you shall not eat these: the camel, the hare, and the rock badger, because they chew the cud but do not part the hoof, are unclean for you.	7 Di quelli invece che ruminano, ma non hanno l'unghia fessa, come il cammello, la lepre ed il cherogrillo, non dovete mangiare; questi, poichè ruminano ma non hanno l'unghia fessa, saranno immondi per voi.
8 And the swine, because it parts the hoof but does not chew the cud, is unclean for you. Their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch.	8 Anche il porco, siccome ha l'unghia fessa ma non rumina, sarà immondo. Di questi, non mangerete le carni, e non toccherete i cadaveri.
9 "Of all that are in the waters you may eat these: whatever has fins and scales you may eat.	9 Degli animali che vivon nell'acqua, mangerete quelli che hanno pinne e squame;
10 And whatever does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you.	10 quelli che sono senza pinne e squame, non li mangiate, perchè sono immondi.
11 "You may eat all clean birds.	11 Mangiate di tutti gli uccelli mondi.
12 But these are the ones which you shall not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the osprey,	12 Non mangiate gl'immondi, cioè: l'aquila, il grifone, l'aquila di mare,
13 the buzzard, the kite, after their kinds;	13 l'issione, l'avvoltoio, il nibbio, e le loro specie;
14 every raven after its kind;	14 ogni specie di corvi,
15 the ostrich, the nighthawk, the sea gull, the hawk, after their kinds;	15 lo struzzo, la civetta, il laro, lo sparviere, e le loro specie;
16 the little owl and the great owl, the water hen	16 l'erodione, il cigno, l'ibis,
17 and the pelican, the carrion vulture and the cormorant,	17 lo smergo, il porfirione, ed il gufo,
18 the stork, the heron, after their kinds; the hoopoe and the bat.	18 l'onocrotalo ed il caradrio, ciascuno con le sue specie, l'upupa ancora ed il pipistrello.
19 And all winged insects are unclean for you; they shall not be eaten.	19 Ogni animale che va sulla terra ed ha l'ali, è immondo e non si mangerà.
20 All clean winged things you may eat.	20 Mangiate tutto quello che è mondo.
21 "You shall not eat anything that dies of itself; you may give it to the alien who is within your towns, that he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner; for you are a people holy to the LORD your God. "You shall not boil a kid in its mother's milk.	21 Di qualsiasi animale morto da sè, non ne mangiate. Donalo o vendilo al forestiero che si trova presso di te, che ne mangi; perchè tu sei il popolo santo del Signore Dio tuo. Non cocerai un capretto nel latte della madre sua.
22 "You shall tithe all the yield of your seed, which comes forth from the field year by year.	22 Ogni anno, metterai da parte la decima di tutt'i prodotti della terra;
23 And before the LORD your God, in the place which he will choose, to make his name dwell there, you shall eat the tithe of your grain, of your wine, and of your oil, and the firstlings of your herd and flock; that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.	23 e la mangerai innanzi al Signore Dio tuo, nel luogo ch'egli avrà scelto perchè lì s'invochi il suo nome: la decima del tuo grano, vino ed olio, ed i primogeniti dei tuoi armenti e greggi, acciò tu impari a temere il Signore Dio tuo in ogni tempo.
24 And if the way is too long for you, so that you are not able to bring the tithe, when the LORD your God blesses you, because the place is too far from you, which the LORD your God chooses, to set his name there,	24 Se poi fosse troppo lungo il cammino, e lontano il luogo scelto dal Signore Dio tuo, così che, ricevute le sue benedizioni, tu non possa a lui portar tutte quelle cose,
25 then you shall turn it into money, and bind up the money in your hand, and go to the place which the LORD your God chooses,	25 le venderai tutte, le convertirai in danaro, e portando questo nelle tue mani andrai al luogo scelto dal Signore Dio tuo.
26 and spend the money for whatever you desire, oxen, or sheep, or wine or strong drink, whatever your appetite craves; and you shall eat there before the LORD your God and rejoice, you and your household.	26 Con quel danaro comprerai quel che ti piacerà, dagli armenti o dai greggi, vino ancora e sicera, e tutto quello che tu desideri; e lo mangerai davanti al Signore Dio tuo, e farai banchetto, tu, la tua famiglia,
27 And you shall not forsake the Levite who is within your towns, for he has no portion or inheritance with you.	27 ed il levita che abita entro le tue mura. Bada bene di non l'abbandonare, perchè non ha altra parte nella terra ch'è tuo possesso.
28 "At the end of every three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your produce in the same year, and lay it up within your towns;	28 Ogni tre anni, metterai da parte un'altra decima di tutto quello che t'è provenuto in quel tempo, e la serberai nelle tue case.
29 and the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled; that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.	29 Verrà il levita che non ha altra parte nè possessione con te, ed il forestiero, l'orfano e la vedova che sono entro le tue porte, e mangeranno e si sazieranno. Così, il Signore Dio tuo ti benedirà in tutti i lavori che intraprenderai con le tue mani.
