1 And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power."	1 - Sei giorni dopo, Gesù prese con sè Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni e li condusse soli in disparte sopra un alto monte e alla loro presenza si trasfigurò.
2 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves; and he was transfigured before them,	2 Le sue vesti divennero sfolgoranti e candide come la neve e tali che nessun lavandaio della terra sarebbe capace di rendere più bianche.
3 and his garments became glistening, intensely white, as no fuller on earth could bleach them.	3 E apparve loro Elia con Mosè, in atto di conversare, con Gesù.
4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus.	4 Pietro, rivoltosi a Gesù, disse: «Maestro, è bene starcene qui; facciamo tre tende, una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia».
5 And Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah."	5 Non sapeva però che cosa dicesse, perchè eran pieni di spavento.
6 For he did not know what to say, for they were exceedingly afraid.	6 Ed ecco una nuvola avvolgerli e dalla nuvola uscire una voce: «Questo è il mio Figlio diletto: ascoltatelo».
7 And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is my beloved Son; listen to him."	7 A un tratto, guardandosi d'attorno, non videro più alcuno ad eccezione del solo Gesù
8 And suddenly looking around they no longer saw any one with them but Jesus only.	8 il quale, mentre scendevan dal monte, ordinò loro di non raccontare a nessuno quello che avevan veduto, prima che il Figliuol dell'uomo fosse risorto dai morti.
9 And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of man should have risen from the dead.	9 Ed essi tennero per sè la cosa, mentre si domandavano tra loro che cosa significasse quel «risorgere dai morti».
10 So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant.	10 Gli domandarono poi: «Perchè dicono gli Scribi che prima deve venire Elia?».
11 And they asked him, "Why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?"	11 Ed egli rispose loro: «Elia deve venire prima per ristabilire ogni cosa; e come mai è scritto del Figliuol dell'uomo che deve soffrire molte cose ed esser disprezzato?
12 And he said to them, "Elijah does come first to restore all things; and how is it written of the Son of man, that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt?	12 Ma io vi dico che Elia è già venuto e che l'hanno trattato come hanno voluto, nel modo che è scritto di lui».
13 But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him."	13 Essendo ritornato presso i discepoli, vide una gran folla intorno ad essi e Scribi che discutevan con loro.
14 And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd about them, and scribes arguing with them.	14 Tutta la folla, appena vide Gesù, stupì e, piena di spavento corse a salutarlo.
15 And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and ran up to him and greeted him.	15 Egli domandò loro: «Di che discutete tra voi?».
16 And he asked them, "What are you discussing with them?"	16 Un della folla rispose: «Maestro, t'ho condotto il mio figliuolo, posseduto da uno spirito muto
17 And one of the crowd answered him, "Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a dumb spirit;	17 e quand'esso s'impadronisce di lui, lo butta a terra ed egli schiuma, digrigna i denti e s'irrigidisce. Ho detto ai tuoi discepoli che glielo scacciassero, ma essi non han potuto».
18 and wherever it seizes him, it dashes him down; and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid; and I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able."	18 Gesù rispose loro: «O generazione incredula. Fino a quando sarò io con voi? Fino a quando vi sopporterò? Conducetelo da me».
19 And he answered them, "O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me."	19 E glielo portarono. Al vederlo, lo spirito fece dare in convulsioni il fanciullo, il quale caduto in terra, si ravvoltolava schiumando.
20 And they brought the boy to him; and when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.	20 Gesù domandò al padre: «Da quanto tempo gli succede questo?». L'altro rispose: «Dalla sua infanzia
21 And Jesus asked his father, "How long has he had this?" And he said, "From childhood.	21 e spesso lo spirito lo ha gettato nel fuoco e nell'acqua per farlo morire; ma se tu puoi qualcosa, abbi pietà di noi e soccorrici».
22 And it has often cast him into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us."	22 E Gesù: «Se puoi credere, ogni cosa è possibile a chi crede».
23 And Jesus said to him, "If you can! All things are possible to him who believes."	23 E subito il padre del fanciullo, gridando, disse tra le lagrime: «Io credo, o Signore, aiuta la mia incredulità».
24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, "I believe; help my unbelief!"	24 Gesù vedendo la folla accorrere, sgridò lo spirito immondo e disse: «Spirito sordo e muto, io te lo comando, esci da lui e non entrarci più».
25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You dumb and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again."	25 Lo spirito, gridando e straziandolo forte uscì e il fanciullo rimase tramortito, onde molti dicevano: «È morto».
26 And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse; so that most of them said, "He is dead."	26 Ma Gesù, presolo per mano, lo fece alzare, ed egli si rizzò.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.	27 Quando poi fu entrato in casa, i suoi discepoli gli domandarono in privato: «Perchè noi non siamo stati capaci di scacciare questo spirito?».
28 And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why could we not cast it out?"	28 Rispose loro: «Cotesta specie di demoni non può essere altrimenti scacciata se non per mezzo della preghiera e del digiuno».
29 And he said to them, "This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer and fasting."	29 Partiti di là, attraversaron la Galilea, e Gesù non voleva che alcuno lo sapesse;
30 They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he would not have any one know it;	30 perchè egli andava ammaestrando i suoi discepoli, dicendo: «Il Figliuol dell'uomo sarà consegnato nelle mani di uomini, che lo uccideranno; e, ucciso, il terzo giorno risusciterà».
31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, "The Son of man will be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, after three days he will rise."	31 Ma essi non comprendevano queste parole e non si arrischiavan di interrogarlo.
32 But they did not understand the saying, and they were afraid to ask him.	32 Giunsero a Cafarnao e quando furono in casa, Gesù domandò loro: «Di che discorrevate per via?».
33 And they came to Caperna-um; and when he was in the house he asked them, "What were you discussing on the way?"	33 Ma essi tacevano perchè per via avevan questionato tra loro chi fosse il più grande.
34 But they were silent; for on the way they had discussed with one another who was the greatest.	34 Allora egli si pose a sedere e, chiamati i Dodici, disse loro: «Se uno vuol essere il primo, sarà l'ultimo di tutti e il servitore di tutti».
35 And he sat down and called the twelve; and he said to them, "If any one would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all."	35 Preso poi un fanciullo lo mise in mezzo a loro e dopo averlo abbracciato, disse loro:
36 And he took a child, and put him in the midst of them; and taking him in his arms, he said to them,	36 «Chi avrà ricevuto uno di questi piccoli in nome mio, riceve me; e chi mi avrà ricevuto, non riceve me, ma Colui che mi ha mandato».
37 "Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me."	37 Giovanni gli disse: «Maestro, abbiam visto un tale, che non è della nostra sequela, scacciare i demoni nel nome tuo e noi glielo abbiamo proibito».
38 John said to him, "Teacher, we saw a man casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he was not following us."	38 Ma Gesù disse loro: «Non glielo proibite; perchè nessuno può fare un prodigio in nome mio e subito dopo parlar male di me,
39 But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him; for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon after to speak evil of me.	39 e così, chi non è contro di noi è per noi.
40 For he that is not against us is for us.	40 E chi vi darà da bere un bicchiere d'acqua in nome mio, perchè siete di Cristo, in verità vi dico, non perderà la sua ricompensa.
41 For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ, will by no means lose his reward.	41 Chi avrà scandalizzato uno di questi pargoli, che credono in me, meglio sarebbe per lui, che legatagli al collo una macina da mulino fosse gettato in mare.
42 "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung round his neck and he were thrown into the sea.	42 Se la tua mano ti è occasione di scandalo, tagliala via; è meglio per te entrare monco nella vita che andare con due mani nella Geenna del fuoco inestinguibile,
43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire.	43 dove il verme non muore e il fuoco non si estingue.
44 .	44 E se il tuo piede ti è occasione di scandalo taglialo via; è meglio per te entrare zoppo nella vita che essere gettato coi due piedi nella Geenna del fuoco inestinguibile,
45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell.	45 dove il verme non muore e il fuoco non si estingue.
46 .	46 E se l'occhio ti è occasione di scandalo, cavatelo; è meglio per te entrare con un sol occhio nel regno di Dio, che esser gettato con due occhi nella Geenna del fuoco inestinguibile
47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell,	47 dove il verme non muore e il fuoco non si estingue.
48 where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.	48 Perchè ognuno sarà salato col fuoco, e ogni vittima sarà salata col sale.
49 For every one will be salted with fire.	49 Il sale è buono, ma, se il sale diventa insipido, con che gli darete sapore? Abbiate il sale con voi, e siate in pace gli uni con gli altri».
50 Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its saltness, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another."
