Matthew 2

1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying,	1 Jésus étant né à Bethléem de Judée, au temps du roi Hérode, voici que des mages venus d'Orientarrivèrent à Jérusalem
2 "Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East, and have come to worship him."	2 en disant: "Où est le roi des Juifs qui vient de naître? Nous avons vu, en effet, son astre à son leveret sommes venus lui rendre hommage."
3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;	3 L'ayant appris, le roi Hérode s'émut, et tout Jérusalem avec lui.
4 and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.	4 Il assembla tous les grands prêtres avec les scribes du peuple, et il s'enquérait auprès d'eux du lieuoù devait naître le Christ.
5 They told him, "In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it is written by the prophet:	5 "A Bethléem de Judée, lui dirent-ils; ainsi, en effet, est-il écrit par le prophète:
6 'And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will govern my people Israel.'"	6 Et toi, Bethléem, terre de Juda, tu n'es nullement le moindre des clans de Juda; car de toi sortira unchef qui sera pasteur de mon peuple Israël."
7 Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star appeared;	7 Alors Hérode manda secrètement les mages, se fit préciser par eux le temps de l'apparition del'astre,
8 and he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, "Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him bring me word, that I too may come and worship him."	8 et les envoya à Bethléem en disant: "Allez vous renseigner exactement sur l'enfant; et quand vousl'aurez trouvé, avisez-moi, afin que j'aille, moi aussi, lui rendre hommage."
9 When they had heard the king they went their way; and lo, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came to rest over the place where the child was.	9 Sur ces paroles du roi, ils se mirent en route; et voici que l'astre, qu'ils avaient vu à son lever, lesprécédait jusqu'à ce qu'il vînt s'arrêter au-dessus de l'endroit où était l'enfant.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy;	10 A la vue de l'astre ils se réjouirent d'une très grande joie.
11 and going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.	11 Entrant alors dans le logis, ils virent l'enfant avec Marie sa mère, et, se prosternant, ils luirendirent hommage; puis, ouvrant leurs cassettes, ils lui offrirent en présents de l'or, de l'encens et de la myrrhe.
12 And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.	12 Après quoi, avertis en songe de ne point retourner chez Hérode, ils prirent une autre route pourrentrer dans leur pays.
13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there till I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him."	13 Après leur départ, voici que l'Ange du Seigneur apparaît en songe à Joseph et lui dit: "Lève-toi,prends avec toi l'enfant et sa mère, et fuis en Egypte; et restes-y jusqu'à ce que je te dise. Car Hérode varechercher l'enfant pour le faire périr."
14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night, and departed to Egypt,	14 Il se leva, prit avec lui l'enfant et sa mère, de nuit, et se retira en Egypte;
15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, "Out of Egypt have I called my son."	15 et il resta là jusqu'à la mort d'Hérode; pour que s'accomplît cet oracle prophétique du Seigneur:D'Egypte j'ai appelé mon fils.
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, was in a furious rage, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time which he had ascertained from the wise men.	16 Alors Hérode, voyant qu'il avait été joué par les mages, fut pris d'une violente fureur et envoyamettre à mort, dans Bethléem et tout son territoire, tous les enfants de moins de deux ans, d'après le temps qu'ils'était fait préciser par les mages.
17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah:	17 Alors s'accomplit l'oracle du prophète Jérémie:
18 "A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled, because they were no more."	18 Une voix dans Rama s'est fait entendre, pleur et longue plainte: c'est Rachel pleurant ses enfants;et ne veut pas qu'on la console, car ils ne sont plus.
19 But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,	19 Quand Hérode eut cessé de vivre, voici que l'Ange du Seigneur apparaît en songe à Joseph, enEgypte,
20 "Rise, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child's life are dead."	20 et lui dit: "Lève-toi, prends avec toi l'enfant et sa mère, et mets-toi en route pour la terre d'Israël;car ils sont morts, ceux qui en voulaient à la vie de l'enfant."
21 And he rose and took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel.	21 Il se leva, prit avec lui l'enfant et sa mère, et rentra dans la terre d'Israël.
22 But when he heard that Archelaus reigned over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and being warned in a dream he withdrew to the district of Galilee.	22 Mais, apprenant qu'Archélaüs régnait sur la Judée à la place d'Hérode son père, il craignit de s'yrendre; averti en songe, il se retira dans la région de Galilée
23 And he went and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, "He shall be called a Nazarene."	23 et vint s'établir dans une ville appelée Nazareth; pour que s'accomplît l'oracle des prophètes: Ilsera appelé Nazôréen.
