1 The oracle of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.	1 Ausspruch. Wort des Herrn an Israel durch Maleachi.
2 "I have loved you," says the LORD. But you say, "How hast thou loved us?" "Is not Esau Jacob's brother?" says the LORD. "Yet I have loved Jacob	2 Ich liebe euch, spricht der Herr. Doch ihr sagt: Worin zeigt sich deine Liebe? - Ist nicht Esau Jakobs Bruder? - Spruch des Herrn - und doch liebe ich Jakob,
3 but I have hated Esau; I have laid waste his hill country and left his heritage to jackals of the desert."	3 Esau aber hasse ich. Darum mache ich seine Berge zur Öde und überlasse sein Erbland den Schakalen der Wüste.
4 If Edom says, "We are shattered but we will rebuild the ruins," the LORD of hosts says, "They may build, but I will tear down, till they are called the wicked country, the people with whom the LORD is angry for ever."	4 Edom sagt: Wir sind zerschmettert - aber wir bauen die Trümmer wieder auf. Doch so spricht der Herr der Heere: Sie sollen nur aufbauen; ich reiße es wieder ein. Man wird sie das Land des Unrechts nennen und das Volk, dem der Herr ewig zürnt.
5 Your own eyes shall see this, and you shall say, "Great is the LORD, beyond the border of Israel!"	5 Mit eigenen Augen werdet ihr es sehen und werdet sagen: Groß ist der Herr, weit über Israels Grenzen hinaus.
6 "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the LORD of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. You say, 'How have we despised thy name?'	6 Der Sohn ehrt seinen Vater und der Knecht seinen Herrn. Wenn ich der Vater bin - wo bleibt dann die Ehrerbietung? Wenn ich der Herr bin - wo bleibt dann die Furcht vor mir?, spricht der Herr der Heere zu euch, ihr Priester, die ihr meinen Namen verachtet. Doch ihr sagt: Wodurch verachten wir denn deinen Namen?
7 By offering polluted food upon my altar. And you say, 'How have we polluted it?' By thinking that the LORD's table may be despised.	7 Ihr bringt auf meinem Altar eklige Speisen dar. Ihr sagt: Wodurch erregen wir deinen Ekel? Dadurch, dass ihr sagt: Der Tisch des Herrn ist nicht so wichtig.
8 When you offer blind animals in sacrifice, is that no evil? And when you offer those that are lame or sick, is that no evil? Present that to your governor; will he be pleased with you or show you favor? says the LORD of hosts.	8 Wenn ihr ein blindes Tier als Schlachtopfer darbringt, ist das nicht schlecht? Und wenn ihr ein lahmes und krankes Tier darbringt, ist das nicht schlecht? Biete das einmal deinem Statthalter an! Ob er wohl Gefallen an dir hat und dich freundlich ansieht?, spricht der Herr der Heere.
9 And now entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious to us. With such a gift from your hand, will he show favor to any of you? says the LORD of hosts.	9 Und nun versucht, Gott damit zu besänftigen und gnädig zu stimmen! Wenn eure Hände ihm solche Dinge anbieten, wie kann er euch dann freundlich ansehen?, spricht der Herr der Heere.
10 Oh, that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire upon my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says the LORD of hosts, and I will not accept an offering from your hand.	10 Wäre doch jemand bei euch, der die Tore (des Tempels) verschließt, damit ihr kein nutzloses Feuer mehr entfacht auf meinem Altar. Ich habe kein Gefallen an euch, spricht der Herr der Heere, und ich mag kein Opfer aus eurer Hand.
11 For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations, says the LORD of hosts.	11 Denn vom Aufgang der Sonne bis zu ihrem Untergang steht mein Name groß da bei den Völkern und an jedem Ort wird meinem Namen ein Rauchopfer dargebracht und eine reine Opfergabe; ja, mein Name steht groß da bei den Völkern, spricht der Herr der Heere.
12 But you profane it when you say that the LORD's table is polluted, and the food for it may be despised.	12 Ihr aber entweiht ihn, ihr sagt: Auf dem Tisch des Herrn darf man eklige Speisen darbringen, er ist nicht so wichtig.
13 'What a weariness this is,' you say, and you sniff at me, says the LORD of hosts. You bring what has been taken by violence or is lame or sick, and this you bring as your offering! Shall I accept that from your hand? says the LORD.	13 Ihr sagt: Welch eine Mühsal!, und facht das Feuer an - spricht der Herr der Heere; ihr bringt von geraubten Tieren die lahmen und kranken als Opfer dar. Soll ich das vielleicht annehmen aus eurer Hand?, spricht der Herr.
14 Cursed be the cheat who has a male in his flock, and vows it, and yet sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished; for I am a great King, says the LORD of hosts, and my name is feared among the nations.	14 Verflucht ist der Betrüger, der dem Herrn ein männliches Tier seiner Herde gelobt, dann aber ein fehlerhaftes Tier schlachtet. Denn ein großer König bin ich, spricht der Herr der Heere, und mein Name ist bei den Völkern gefürchtet.
