Habakkuk 2

1 I will take my stand to watch, and station myself on the tower, and look forth to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint.	1 Sopra la guardia mia starò, e fermerò il passo mio sopra la fortezza; e ragguarderò, acciò che intenda quello che mi sia detto, e quello ch' io risponda a chi mi riprende.
2 And the LORD answered me: "Write the vision; make it plain upon tablets, so he may run who reads it.	2 E il Signore mi rispuose, e disse: scrivi la visione, e spianala sopra le tavole, acciò che chi la leggerà la intenda perfettamente.
3 For still the vision awaits its time; it hastens to the end--it will not lie. If it seem slow, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay.	3 Però che la visione è ancora di lungi; e apparirà in fine, e non mentirà; se egli indugerà, aspettalo; per che colui che dee venire verrà, e non tarderà.
4 Behold, he whose soul is not upright in him shall fail, but the righteous shall live by his faith.	4 Ecco che colui ch' è incredulo, non sarà diritta l'anima sua in lui medesimo; ma il giusto viverà nella fede sua.
5 Moreover, wine is treacherous; the arrogant man shall not abide. His greed is as wide as Sheol; like death he has never enough. He gathers for himself all nations, and collects as his own all peoples."	5 E come il vino inganna colui che lo beve, così sarà l'uomo superbo, e non sarà onorato, però ch' egli ha dilatato, come lo inferno, l'anima sua; ed egli è come la morte, e non s'empierà; e congregherà a sè tutte le genti, e radunerà a sè tutti li popoli.
6 Shall not all these take up their taunt against him, in scoffing derision of him, and say, "Woe to him who heaps up what is not his own--for how long?--and loads himself with pledges!"	6 Or non parleranno tutti costoro per similitudine sopra di lui, e parleranno di lui per figure oscure, e dirassi: guai a lui che moltiplica le cose non sue? insino a quando aggrava egli contra sè il luto spesso?
7 Will not your debtors suddenly arise, and those awake who will make you tremble? Then you will be booty for them.	7 Or non si leveranno coloro incontanente, che ti mordano, e saranno suscitati (e ammessi) coloro che ti làcerino, e sarai loro in rapina?
8 Because you have plundered many nations, all the remnant of the peoples shall plunder you, for the blood of men and violence to the earth, to cities and all who dwell therein.	8 Per che tu hai spogliato molte genti, spoglieranno te tutti quelli che ci sono rimasi di quei popoli, per lo sangue delli uomini, e per la iniquità della terra e della città e di tutti coloro che àbitano in essa.
9 Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house, to set his nest on high, to be safe from the reach of harm!	9 Guai a colui che raduna la mala avarizia alla casa sua, acciò che il nido suo sia in alto, e pensasi d'essere liberato della mano del male!
10 You have devised shame to your house by cutting off many peoples; you have forfeited your life.	10 Tu hai pensato confusione alla casa tua; tu hai abbassati molti popoli, e ha peccato l' anima tua.
11 For the stone will cry out from the wall, and the beam from the woodwork respond.	11 Però che la pietra del muro griderà; e lo leguo, ch' è tra le giunture degli edifici, risponderà.
12 Woe to him who builds a town with blood, and founds a city on iniquity!	12 Guai a colui ch' edifica la città nello spargimento de' sangui, e apparecchia (e fa) la città nella iniquità!
13 Behold, is it not from the LORD of hosts that peoples labor only for fire, and nations weary themselves for nought?	13 Or non sono queste cose dal Signore delli esèrciti? Però che i popoli s' affaticheranno nel molto fuoco, e le genti s' affaticheranno indarno, e verranno meno.
14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.	14 Però che (ne) sarà ripiena la terra, acciò che conoscano la gloria del Signore, come l'acque che cuoprono il mare.
15 Woe to him who makes his neighbors drink of the cup of his wrath, and makes them drunk, to gaze on their shame!	15 Guai, chi dà da bere allo amico suo, mettendovi il fiele suo, e inèbrialo acciò che veggia la nudità sua!
16 You will be sated with contempt instead of glory. Drink, yourself, and stagger! The cup in the LORD's right hand will come around to you, and shame will come upon your glory!	16 Se' ripieno di vergogna in iscambio di gloria; bèi anche tu, e addormèntati; e il calice della mano diritta del Signore ti circonderà; il vomito della vergogna ti sopraverrà dopo la gloria tua.
17 The violence done to Lebanon will overwhelm you; the destruction of the beasts will terrify you, for the blood of men and violence to the earth, to cities and all who dwell therein.	17 Però che la iniquità del Libano ti coprirà; e la distruzione degli animali li sbigottirà dello sangue degli uomini, sparto per la iniquità della terra e della città e di tutti coloro che àbitano in essa.
18 What profit is an idol when its maker has shaped it, a metal image, a teacher of lies? For the workman trusts in his own creation when he makes dumb idols!	18 Che giova allo idolo scolpito, per che lo suo artefice lo scolpisse al fuoco, fabbricando (e facendo) falsa imagine? però che lo suo artefice ebbe speranza nell' idolo lavorato da lui, acciò che facesse gl' idoli mutoli.
19 Woe to him who says to a wooden thing, Awake; to a dumb stone, Arise! Can this give revelation? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in it.	19 Guai a chi dice al legno: svègliati, e alla pietra che tace dice: sta su! Or potratti la pietra ammaestrare? Ecco ch' ella è coperta d' oro e d'ariento; e niuno spirito è nelle viscere sue.
20 But the LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him.	20 Ma il Signore è nel tempio santo suo; e però taccia dalla faccia tua tutta la terra.
