1 Hear what the LORD says: Arise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice.	1 - Ascoltate ciò che dice il Signore: - Alzati e procedi in giudizio al cospetto dei monti, e i colli odano la tua voce!
2 Hear, you mountains, the controversy of the LORD, and you enduring foundations of the earth; for the LORD has a controversy with his people, and he will contend with Israel.	2 Odano i monti la requisitoria del Signore e i solidi fondamenti della terra; perchè il Signore intenta una causa contro il suo popolo.
3 "O my people, what have I done to you? In what have I wearied you? Answer me!	3 Popolo mio, che cosa ti ho fatto io, e quali molestie t'ho arrecato? Rispondimi!
4 For I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and redeemed you from the house of bondage; and I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.	4 È perchè ti ho condotto fuori della terra d'Egitto e dalla casa degli schiavi ti ho liberato, mandando innanzi a te Mosè, e Aronne e Maria?
5 O my people, remember what Balak king of Moab devised, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, and what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the saving acts of the LORD."	5 Popolo mio, rammenta i propositi concepiti da Balac, re di Moab; e ciò che gli rispose Balaam, figlio di Beor; e ciò che ti successe da Settim fino a Galgala, affinchè conoscessi i giusti giudizi del Signore!
6 "With what shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before God on high? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?	6 "Qual cosa offrirò al Signore degno di lui? Mi getterò in ginocchio davanti all'altissimo Iddio, gli offrirò olocausti, vitelli di fresco nati?
7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my first-born for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?"	7 Il Signore si potrà placare con migliaia di montoni, o con miriadi di grossi capri? O gli darò io, in espiazione della mia colpa, il mio primogenito; uno dei frutti delle mie viscere, pel peccato dell'anima mia?"
8 He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?	8 Te lo mostrerò io, o uomo, in che consiste il bene, e che cosa il Signore cerca da te: null'altro che praticare la giustizia, amare la misericordia, ed essere sollecito a camminare col tuo Dio.
9 The voice of the LORD cries to the city--and it is sound wisdom to fear thy name: "Hear, O tribe and assembly of the city!	9 La voce del Signore fa appello alla città, e sarà la salvezza di quelli che temono il tuo nome. O tribù, ascoltate! Ma chi vorrà intendere ragione?
10 Can I forget the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is accursed?	10 Vi sono ancora nella casa dell'empio tesori, focolari d'iniquità, e misura scarsa, colma d'ira?
11 Shall I acquit the man with wicked scales and with a bag of deceitful weights?	11 Posso io giustificare una bilancia adulterata e i pesi falsificati del sacchetto;
12 Your rich men are full of violence; your inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.	12 mezzi coi quali i ricchi di questa città si sono empiti di roba di mal acquisto; mentre i suoi abitanti dicono il falso e hanno in bocca un linguaggio menzognero?
13 Therefore I have begun to smite you, making you desolate because of your sins.	13 Anch'io per tanto ho preso a percuoterti con la rovina di tutto a causa dei tuoi peccati.
14 You shall eat, but not be satisfied, and there shall be hunger in your inward parts; you shall put away, but not save, and what you save I will give to the sword.	14 Tu mangerai e non ti satollerai, e avrai nelle interiora il tuo avvilimento; tu afferrerai, ma non trarrai in salvo, e ciò che salverai lo metterò a fil di spada.
15 You shall sow, but not reap; you shall tread olives, but not anoint yourselves with oil; you shall tread grapes, but not drink wine.	15 Tu seminerai, ma non mieterai; spremerai le olive e non potrai ungerti d'olio; il mosto, e non berrai il vino.
16 For you have kept the statutes of Omri, and all the works of the house of Ahab; and you have walked in their counsels; that I may make you a desolation, and your inhabitants a hissing; so you shall bear the scorn of the peoples."	16 Hai osservato gli statuti di Amri e tutto ciò che faceva Acab e hai camminato a seconda dei loro voleri, cosicchè darò te alla distruzione, all'insulto i suoi abitanti; voi porterete l'obbrobrio della mia nazione. -
