1 I am the man who has seen affliction under the rod of his wrath;	1 Alef Io uomo vedendo la mia povertà nella bacchetta del suo isdegno.
2 he has driven and brought me into darkness without any light;	2 Alef Egli mi ha menato e ridotto nelle tenebre, e non nella luce.
3 surely against me he turns his hand again and again the whole day long.	3 Alef Solamente voltossi egli contra di me, e tutto il giorno convertitte la mano sua.
4 He has made my flesh and my skin waste away, and broken my bones;	4 Bet Egli fece invecchita la mia pelle e carne; fracassò le mie ossa.
5 he has besieged and enveloped me with bitterness and tribulation;	5 Bet Egli edificò nel mio circuito, e circundò me di amaritudine e di fatica.
6 he has made me dwell in darkness like the dead of long ago.	6 Bet Collocò me ne' luoghi oscuri, a modo di sempiterni morti.
7 He has walled me about so that I cannot escape; he has put heavy chains on me;	7 Ghimel Contra di me egli edificò dintorno acciò ch' io non eschi fuori; aggravò la mia catena de' piedi.
8 though I call and cry for help, he shuts out my prayer;	8 Ghimel Ma e quando io (insieme) gridarò e pregarò, egli ha escluso la mia orazione.
9 he has blocked my ways with hewn stones, he has made my paths crooked.	9 Ghimel Egli ha incluso le vie mie con le quadrate pietre; ha riversato li miei sentieri.
10 He is to me like a bear lying in wait, like a lion in hiding;	10 Dalet Egli è a me fatto insidiante orso, leone nascoso.
11 he led me off my way and tore me to pieces; he has made me desolate;	11 Dalet Ha riversato le mie strade, e hammi fracassata; hammi posta desolata.
12 he bent his bow and set me as a mark for his arrow.	12 Dalet Istese l'arco suo; hammi posta come segno contra la sagitta.
13 He drove into my heart the arrows of his quiver;	13 He Ha posto nelle mie reni le figliuole del suo carcasso (cioè sagitte).
14 I have become the laughingstock of all peoples, the burden of their songs all day long.	14 He Sono fatta in schernio a ogni mio populo, e in loro cantico per tutto il giorno.
15 He has filled me with bitterness, he has sated me with wormwood.	15 He Egli ha me riempiuto di amaritudine, mi ha inebriato di assenzio.
16 He has made my teeth grind on gravel, and made me cower in ashes;	16 Vau E per numero fracassò li miei denti; nutricò me di cenere.
17 my soul is bereft of peace, I have forgotten what happiness is;	17 Vau Egli scacciarà [dalla pace] l' alma mia; sonmi dimenticata de' beni.
18 so I say, "Gone is my glory, and my expectation from the LORD."	18 Vau E dissi: egli è perita la mia fine, e la mia speranza del Signore.
19 Remember my affliction and my bitterness, the wormwood and the gall!	19 Zain Arricòrdati della mia povertà e della mia transgressione, dell' assenzio e del fiele.
20 My soul continually thinks of it and is bowed down within me.	20 Zain Arricorderommi con la memoria; in me verrà a meno l' alma mia.
21 But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:	21 Zain Arricordandomi questo nel cuore mio, però sperarò.
22 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end;	22 Het Vengano le misericordie del Signore, imperd che non siamo consumati; conciosia che non sono venute a meno le sue miserazioni.
23 they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.	23 Het Per tempo t'ho conosciuto; egli è molta la tua fede.
24 "The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him."	24 Het Il Signore egli è la parte mia, disse l'alma mia; e però io l'aspettarò.
25 The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.	25 Tet Buono è il Signore alli in lui speranti, all'alma cercante quello.
26 It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.	26 Tet Buono è aspettare con silenzio il salutare del Signore.
27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.	27 Tet Buono è all' uomo, quando egli portarà il giogo dalla sua gioventù.
28 Let him sit alone in silence when he has laid it on him;	28 Iod Egli sederà solitario, e tacerà; imperò che si ha levato sopra di sè.
29 let him put his mouth in the dust-- there may yet be hope;	29 Iod In polvere ponerà la bocca sua, se forse ne sia la speranza.
30 let him give his cheek to the smiter, and be filled with insults.	30 Iod Al percutente sè porgerà la guancia; sarà saziato di obbrobrii.
31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever,	31 Caf Imperò che il Signore non lo scacciarà in sempiterno.
32 but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love;	32 Caf Per che se egli l' ha scacciato, aralli misericordia secondo la multitudine delle sue misericordie.
33 for he does not willingly afflict or grieve the sons of men.	33 Caf Imperò che egli non l'ha umiliato col cuore suo, e da sè ha scacciato li figliuoli delli uomini;
34 To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,	34 Lamed acciò che egli fracassasse sotto li suoi piedi tutti li imprigionati della terra,
35 to turn aside the right of a man in the presence of the Most High,	35 Lamed acciò che egli abbassasse il giudicio dell' uomo nel conspetto del volto dell' Altissimo;
36 to subvert a man in his cause, the Lord does not approve.	36 Lamed acciò che egli rivoltasse l'uomo nel suo giudicio; il Signore non l' ha saputo.
37 Who has commanded and it came to pass, unless the Lord has ordained it?	37 Mem Chi è costui che ha detto acciò fusse fatto, non comandante il Signore?
38 Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that good and evil come?	38 Mem Dalla bocca dell' Altissimo non usciranno nè beni nè mali?
39 Why should a living man complain, a man, about the punishment of his sins?	39 Mem Il perchè ha mormorato l'uomo vivente, dico l'uomo per li suoi peccati?
40 Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the LORD!	40 Nun Consideriamo le nostre vie, e cerchiamo, e ritorniamo al Signore.
41 Let us lift up our hearts and hands to God in heaven:	41 Nun Con le mani leviamo li cuori nostri al Signore delli cieli.
42 "We have transgressed and rebelled, and thou hast not forgiven.	42 Nun Noi abbiamo operato iniquamente, e abbiamo provocato (lui) ad iracundia; e però tu non ci esaudisti.
43 "Thou hast wrapped thyself with anger and pursued us, slaying without pity;	43 Samec Ha'ci coperti nel furore, e percossi; ha'ci ucciso, e non ci hai perdonato.
44 thou hast wrapped thyself with a cloud so that no prayer can pass through.	44 Samec Contra di te hai posta la nube, acciò non passi la orazione.
45 Thou hast made us offscouring and refuse among the peoples.	45 Samec Ne hai posto senza radice e scavato in mezzo de' populi.
46 "All our enemies rail against us;	46 Fe Tutti li inimici hanno aperto sopra di noi la sua bocca.
47 panic and pitfall have come upon us, devastation and destruction;	47 Fe Il spavento e il laccio a noi sono fatti in divinazione e contrizione.
48 my eyes flow with rivers of tears because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.	48 Fe L'occhio mio ha menato (le divisioni, come) rivoli di acque, nella contrizione della figliuola del populo mio.
49 "My eyes will flow without ceasing, without respite,	49 Ain Egli è afflitto l'occhio mio, e non stette quieto, conciosia che non vi fosse riposo,
50 until the LORD from heaven looks down and sees;	50 Ain per insino che Iddio risguardasse dal cielo.
51 my eyes cause me grief at the fate of all the maidens of my city.	51 Ain L'occhio mio ha furato l'alma mia in tutte le figliuole della mia città.
52 "I have been hunted like a bird by those who were my enemies without cause;	52 Sade Senza cagione li miei inimici mi hanno pigliato con la cacciagione come uccello.
53 they flung me alive into the pit and cast stones on me;	53 Sade Nel lago è cascata la vita mia, e sopra di me hanno posto la pietra.
54 water closed over my head; 'I said, I am lost.'	54 Sade Sono discorse le acque sopra il capo mio; dissi sono perita.
55 "I called on thy name, O LORD, from the depths of the pit;	55 Cof Chiamai, Signore, il nome tuo dall' ultimo lago.
56 thou didst hear my plea, 'Do not close thine ear to my cry for help!'	56 Cof Hai udita la voce mia; non rimovere la tua orecchia dal mio singulto e dalli miei gridari.
57 Thou didst come near when I called on thee; thou didst say, 'Do not fear!'	57 Cof Nel giorno ch' io ti chiamai, ti appressasti; dicesti non temere.
58 "Thou hast taken up my cause, O Lord, thou hast redeemed my life.	58 Res Tu hai giudicato, Signore, la causa dell' al- ma mia, redentore della vita mia.
59 Thou hast seen the wrong done to me, O LORD; judge thou my cause.	59 Res Tu hai veduto, Signore, la loro iniquità contra di me; giudica il giudicio mio.
60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance, all their devices against me.	60 Res Tu hai veduto ogni furore, li universi loro pensieri contra di me.
61 "Thou hast heard their taunts, O LORD, all their devices against me.	61 Sin Hai ulito, Signore, loro obbrobrio, tutti li [loro] pensieri contra di me.
62 The lips and thoughts of my assailants are against me all the day long.	62 Sin Contra di me in tutto il giorno sono le labbra delli insorgenti, e li loro pensieri.
63 Behold their sitting and their rising; I am the burden of their songs.	63 Sin Vedi loro cadimento e loro resurrezione; io sono loro cantico.
64 "Thou wilt requite them, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.	64 Tau Signore, renderai a loro la vendetta, secondo l'opere delle sue mani.
65 Thou wilt give them dullness of heart; thy curse will be on them.	65 Tau A loro darai il scuto del cuore, come fatica tua.
66 Thou wilt pursue them in anger and destroy them from under thy heavens, O LORD."	66 Tau Perseguitera'li nel furore, e sara'li contra loro sotto lo cielo, Signore.
