Jeremiah 40

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD after Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he took him bound in chains along with all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon.	1 La parola, che fu detta a Ieremia [dal Signore], poi che fu lasciato da Nabuzardan maestro della milizia di Rama, quando lo portò legato colle catene in mezzo di tutti quelli che passavano da Ierusalem e da Giuda, ed erano menati in Babilonia.
2 The captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said to him, "The LORD your God pronounced this evil against this place;	2 Adunque, togliendo lo principe della milizia Ieremia, disse a lui: lo tuo Signore Iddio parlò questo male sopra questo luogo,
3 the LORD has brought it about, and has done as he said. Because you sinned against the LORD, and did not obey his voice, this thing has come upon you.	3 e disfecelo, e fece Iddio come avea parlato, però che voi peccaste a Dio, e non udiste la voce sua; però che vi parlò Iddio.
4 Now, behold, I release you today from the chains on your hands. If it seems good to you to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will look after you well; but if it seems wrong to you to come with me to Babylon, do not come. See, the whole land is before you; go wherever you think it good and right to go.	4 Adunque ecco, io t'ho (così) sciolto oggi delle catene le quali sono nelle tue mani; se ti piace di venire meco in Babilonia, vieni, e porrotti sotto li miei occhi; e se non ti piace di venire meco in Babilonia, rèstati qui; ecco tutta la terra è nel tuo conspetto; quello che tu eleggerai a te, e dove ti piacerà d'andare, sì anderai.
5 If you remain, then return to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon appointed governor of the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go wherever you think it right to go." So the captain of the guard gave him an allowance of food and a present, and let him go.	5 E non venire meco; ma abita appresso di Godolia, figliuolo di Aicam, figliuolo di Safan, lo quale fece preposto lo re di Babilonia a tutte le terre di Giuda; adunque abita con lui nel mezzo del populo, ovvero che tu vai dovunque più ti piace. E lo maestro della milizia li diede cibarii e doni piccioletti, e lasciollo andare.
6 Then Jeremiah went to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, at Mizpah, and dwelt with him among the people who were left in the land.	6 Venne Ieremia a Godolia, figliuolo di Aicam, in Masfat, e abitò con lui nel mezzo del populo it quale era lasciato nella terra.
7 When all the captains of the forces in the open country and their men heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, women, and children, those of the poorest of the land who had not been taken into exile to Babylon,	7 E quando udirono li principi dello esèrcito, ch' erano dispersi per le regioni, egli e li loro compagni, che lo re di Babilonia avesse fatto preposto della terra Godolia, figliuolo di Aicam, e che gli avesse accomandato li uomini e le donne e' piccolini, e li poveri della terra che non erano passati in Babilonia;
8 they went to Gedaliah at Mizpah--Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, Johanan the son of Kareah, Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, Jezaniah the son of the Ma-acathite, they and their men.	8 vennero a Godolia (figliuolo di Aicam) in Masfat, Ismael lo figliuolo di Natania, e Ioanan e Ionatan figliuoli di Caree, e Sareas figliuolo di Taneumet, e li figliuoli d' Ofi, i quali erano di Netofat, e Iezonia figliuolo di Maacato, essi e li loro uomini.
9 Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, swore to them and their men, saying, "Do not be afraid to serve the Chaldeans. Dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.	9 E giurò loro Godolia, figliuolo d' Aicam, figliuolo di Safan, e alle loro compagnie, dicendo: non temete di servire a' Caldei; abitate in [la] terra, e servite allo re di Babilonia, e averete ogni bene.
10 As for me, I will dwell at Mizpah, to stand for you before the Chaldeans who will come to us; but as for you, gather wine and summer fruits and oil, and store them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken."	10 Ecco, io abito in Masfat acciò ch' io risponda al comandamento de' Caldei i quali sono mandati a noi; e voi ricogliete la vendemmia e la ricolta e l'olio, e riponet? nelli vostri vasi, e state nelle vostre terre le quali voi tenete.
11 Likewise, when all the Jews who were in Moab and among the Ammonites and in Edom and in other lands heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah and had appointed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, as governor over them,	11 Ma tutti ancora li Giudei [i quali] abitavano in Moab e ne' confini d' Ammon e in Idumea e in tutte le contrade, udito che lo re di Babilonia avesse dato lo rimanente in Giudea, e ch' elli avesse fatto preposto sopra loro Godolia, figliuolo d' Aicam, figliuolo di Safan,
12 then all the Jews returned from all the places to which they had been driven and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah; and they gathered wine and summer fruits in great abundance.	12 e' ritornarono, tutti i giudei, delli luoghi dove erano fuggiti; e vennero nella terra di Giuda a Godolia in Masfat, e ricolsono lo vino e molta roba.
13 Now Johanan the son of Kareah and all the leaders of the forces in the open country came to Gedaliah at Mizpah	13 Ioanan figliuolo di Caree, e tutti li principi dello esèrcito, i quali erano stati dispersi nelle contrade, venneno a Godolia in Masfat.
14 and said to him, "Do you know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life?" But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam would not believe them.	14 E dissono a lui: sappi che Baali, re de' figliuoli d'Ammon, mandò Ismael figliuolo di Natania a percuotere l'anima tua. E Godolia non credette loro.
15 Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke secretly to Gedaliah at Mizpah, "Let me go and slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no one will know it. Why should he take your life, so that all the Jews who are gathered about you would be scattered, and the remnant of Judah would perish?"	15 Ioanan figliuolo di Caree disse a Godolia, parlando inverso sè, in Masfat: io anderò, e percuoterò Ismael figliuolo di Natania, non sapiendo persona, acciò ch' egli non uccida l'anima tua, e tutti li giudei siano dispersi, i quali sono radunati a te, e periranno li rimanenti di Giuda.
16 But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, "You shall not do this thing, for you are speaking falsely of Ishmael."	16 E disse Godolia figliuolo d' Aicam a Ioanan figliuolo di Caree: non dire questa parola, però che tu parli falsamente di Ismael.
