Jeremiah 3

1 "If a man divorces his wife and she goes from him and becomes another man's wife, will he return to her? Would not that land be greatly polluted? You have played the harlot with many lovers; and would you return to me? says the LORD.	1 Si un homme répudie sa femme, et que celle-ci le quitte et appartient à un autre, a-t-il encore le droitde revenir à elle? N'est-elle pas totalement profanée, cette terre-là? Et toi qui t'es prostituée à de nombreuxamants, tu prétends revenir à moi! Oracle de Yahvé.
2 Lift up your eyes to the bare heights, and see! Where have you not been lain with? By the waysides you have sat awaiting lovers like an Arab in the wilderness. You have polluted the land with your vile harlotry.	2 Lève les yeux vers les monts chauves et regarde. Où ne t'es-tu pas livrée? Tu étais là, pour eux, lelong des chemins, comme l'Arabe au désert. Tu as profané le pays par tes prostitutions et tes forfaits;
3 Therefore the showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come; yet you have a harlot's brow, you refuse to be ashamed.	3 aussi les pluies furent-elle retenues et l'ondée tardive ne vint plus. Mais tu conservais un front deprostituée, refusant de rougir.
4 Have you not just now called to me, 'My father, thou art the friend of my youth--	4 Dès maintenant, ne me cries-tu pas: "Mon père! L'ami de ma jeunesse, c'est toi!
5 will he be angry for ever, will he be indignant to the end?' Behold, you have spoken, but you have done all the evil that you could."	5 Gardera-t-il toujours sa rancune, va-t-il éterniser son courroux?" Tu parles ainsi en commettant tescrimes, obstinée que tu es.
6 The LORD said to me in the days of King Josiah: "Have you seen what she did, that faithless one, Israel, how she went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and there played the harlot?	6 Yahvé me dit au temps du roi Josias: As-tu vu ce qu'a fait Israël la rebelle? Elle se rendait sur toutemontagne élevée, sous tout arbre vert, et s'y prostituait.
7 And I thought, 'After she has done all this she will return to me'; but she did not return, and her false sister Judah saw it.	7 Je me disais: "Après avoir fait tout cela, elle reviendra à moi"; mais elle ne revint pas. Juda, sa soeurperfide, a vu cela.
8 She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce; yet her false sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the harlot.	8 Elle a vu aussi que j'ai répudié la rebelle Israël pour tous ses adultères et lui ai donné son acte dedivorce. Or la perfide Juda, sa soeur, n'a pas eu de crainte; elle est allée, elle aussi, se prostituer.
9 Because harlotry was so light to her, she polluted the land, committing adultery with stone and tree.	9 Et avec sa prostitution éhontée, elle a profané le pays; elle a commis l'adultère avec la pierre et lebois.
10 Yet for all this her false sister Judah did not return to me with her whole heart, but in pretense, says the LORD."	10 En plus de tout cela, Juda, sa soeur perfide, n'est pas revenue à moi de tout son coeur, mais avecimposture, oracle de Yahvé.
11 And the LORD said to me, "Faithless Israel has shown herself less guilty than false Judah.	11 Et Yahvé me dit: Israël la rebelle est juste, comparée à Juda la perfide.
12 Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, 'Return, faithless Israel, says the LORD. I will not look on you in anger, for I am merciful, says the LORD; I will not be angry for ever.	12 Va donc crier ces paroles du côté du Nord; tu diras: Reviens, rebelle Israël, oracle de Yahvé. Jen'aurai plus pour vous un visage sévère, car je suis miséricordieux - oracle de Yahvé - je ne garde pas toujoursma rancune.
13 Only acknowledge your guilt, that you rebelled against the LORD your God and scattered your favors among strangers under every green tree, and that you have not obeyed my voice, says the LORD.	13 Reconnais seulement ta faute: tu t'es révoltée contre Yahvé ton Dieu, tu as couru en tous sens versles Etrangers, sous tout arbre vert, et vous n'avez pas écouté ma voix, oracle de Yahvé.
14 Return, O faithless children, says the LORD; for I am your master; I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.	14 Revenez, fils rebelles - oracle de Yahvé - car c'est moi votre Maître. Je vous prendrai, un d'uneville, deux d'une famille, pour vous amener à Sion.
15 "'And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.	15 Je vous donnerai des pasteurs selon mon coeur, qui vous paîtront avec intelligence et prudence.
16 And when you have multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, says the LORD, they shall no more say, "The ark of the covenant of the LORD." It shall not come to mind, or be remembered, or missed; it shall not be made again.	16 Et quand vous vous serez multipliés et que vous aurez fructifié dans le pays, en ces jours-là -oracle de Yahvé - on ne dira plus: "Arche de l'alliance de Yahvé"; on n'y pensera plus, on ne s'en souviendraplus, on ne s'en préoccupera plus, on n'en construira plus d'autre.
17 At that time Jerusalem shall be called the throne of the LORD, and all nations shall gather to it, to the presence of the LORD in Jerusalem, and they shall no more stubbornly follow their own evil heart.	17 En ce temps-là, on appellera Jérusalem: "Trône de Yahvé"; toutes les nations convergeront verselle, vers le nom de Yahvé, à Jérusalem, et elles ne suivront plus l'obstination de leur coeur mauvais.
18 In those days the house of Judah shall join the house of Israel, and together they shall come from the land of the north to the land that I gave your fathers for a heritage.	18 En ces jours-là, la maison de Juda ira vers la maison d'Israël; ensemble elles viendront du pays duNord, vers le pays que j'ai donné en héritage à vos pères.
19 "'I thought how I would set you among my sons, and give you a pleasant land, a heritage most beauteous of all nations. And I thought you would call me, My Father, and would not turn from following me.	19 Et moi qui m'étais dit: Comment te placerai-je au rang des fils? Je te donnerai une terre de délices,l'héritage le plus précieux d'entre les nations. Je me disais: Vous m'appellerez "Mon Père" et vous ne vousséparerez pas de moi.
20 Surely, as a faithless wife leaves her husband, so have you been faithless to me, O house of Israel, says the LORD.'"	20 Mais comme une femme qui trahit son compagnon, ainsi m'avez-vous trahi, maison d'Israël, oraclede Yahvé.
21 A voice on the bare heights is heard, the weeping and pleading of Israel's sons, because they have perverted their way, they have forgotten the LORD their God.	21 Sur les monts chauves, un cri s'est fait entendre: pleurs et supplications des enfants d'Israël; car ilsont gauchi leur voie, oublié Yahvé leur Dieu. -
22 "Return, O faithless sons, I will heal your faithlessness." "Behold, we come to thee; for thou art the LORD our God.	22 Revenez, fils rebelles, je veux guérir vos rébellions! - Nous voici, nous venons à toi, car tu esYahvé notre Dieu.
23 Truly the hills are a delusion, the orgies on the mountains. Truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.	23 En vérité, les collines ne sont que duperie, ainsi que le tumulte des montagnes. En vérité, c'est enYahvé notre Dieu qu'est le salut d'Israël.
24 "But from our youth the shameful thing has devoured all for which our fathers labored, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.	24 La Honte a dévoré le travail de nos pères depuis notre jeunesse, leur petit et leur gros bétail, leursfils et leurs filles.
25 Let us lie down in our shame, and let our dishonor cover us; for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day; and we have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God."	25 Couchons-nous dans notre honte, que nous couvre notre confusion! Car contre Yahvé notre Dieu,nous avons péché, nous et nos pères, depuis notre jeunesse jusqu'à ce jour même, et nous n'avons pas écouté lavoix de Yahvé notre Dieu. -
