Jeremiah 29

1 These are the words of the letter which Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the elders of the exiles, and to the priests, the prophets, and all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had taken into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.	1 Voici le texte de la lettre que le prophète Jérémie expédia de Jérusalem à ceux qui restaient desanciens en déportation, aux prêtres, aux prophètes et à tout le peuple, que Nabuchodonosor avait déportés deJérusalem à Babylone.
2 This was after King Jeconiah, and the queen mother, the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen, and the smiths had departed from Jerusalem.	2 C'était après que le roi Jékonias eut quitté Jérusalem avec la reine-mère, les eunuques, les princesde Juda et de Jérusalem, les forgerons et les serruriers.
3 The letter was sent by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. It said:	3 Elle fut portée par Eléasa, fils de Shaphân, et Gemarya, fils de Hilqiyya, que Sédécias, roi de Juda,avait envoyés à Babylone, auprès de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone. La lettre disait:
4 "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon:	4 "Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël, à tous les exilés, déportés de Jérusalem à Babylone:
5 Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce.	5 Bâtissez des maisons et installez-vous; plantez des jardins et mangez leurs fruits;
6 Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease.	6 prenez femme et engendrez des fils et des filles; choisissez des femmes pour vos fils; donnez vosfilles en mariage et qu'elles enfantent des fils et des filles; multipliez-vous là-bas, ne diminuez pas!
7 But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.	7 Recherchez la paix pour la ville où je vous ai déportés; priez Yahvé en sa faveur, car de sa paixdépend la vôtre.
8 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams which they dream,	8 Car ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël: ne vous laissez pas égarer par les prophètes qui sontparmi vous, ni par vos devins, n'écoutez pas les songes que vous faites,
9 for it is a lie which they are prophesying to you in my name; I did not send them, says the LORD.	9 car c'est pour le mensonge qu'ils vous prophétisent en mon Nom. Je ne les ai point envoyés -oracle de Yahvé.
10 "For thus says the LORD: When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfil to you my promise and bring you back to this place.	10 Car ainsi parle Yahvé: Quand seront accomplis les 70 ans à Babylone, je vous visiterai et jeréaliserai pour vous ma promesse de bonheur en vous ramenant ici.
11 For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.	11 Car je sais, moi, les desseins que je forme pour vous - oracle de Yahvé - desseins de paix et nonde malheur, pour vous donner un avenir et une espérance.
12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.	12 Vous m'invoquerez et vous viendrez, vous me prierez et je vous écouterai.
13 You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart,	13 Vous me chercherez et vous me trouverez, car vous me rechercherez de tout votre coeur;
14 I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.	14 je me laisserai trouver par vous( - oracle de Yahvé. Je ramènerai vos captifs et vous rassembleraide toutes les nations et de tous les lieux où je vous ai chassés, oracle de Yahvé. Je vous ramènerai en ce lieu d'oùje vous ai exilés).
15 "Because you have said, 'The LORD has raised up prophets for us in Babylon,--	15 Puisque vous dites: Yahvé nous a suscité des prophètes à Babylone -
16 Thus says the LORD concerning the king who sits on the throne of David, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your kinsmen who did not go out with you into exile:	16 Ainsi parle Yahvé au sujet du roi qui trône sur le siège de David et de tout le peuple habitant cetteville, vos frères qui ne vous accompagnèrent pas en déportation.
17 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, Behold, I am sending on them sword, famine, and pestilence, and I will make them like vile figs which are so bad they cannot be eaten.	17 Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot: Voici que je vais leur envoyer l'épée, la famine et la peste; je lesrendrai pareils à des figues pourries, si gâtées qu'on ne peut les manger.
18 I will pursue them with sword, famine, and pestilence, and will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, a terror, a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them,	18 Je les poursuivrai par l'épée, la famine et la peste. J'en ferai un objet d'épouvante pour tous lesroyaumes de la terre, une exécration, un objet de stupeur, de dérision et de raillerie pour toutes les nations où jeles aurai chassés.
19 because they did not heed my words, says the LORD, which I persistently sent to you by my servants the prophets, but you would not listen, says the LORD.--	19 C'est qu'ils n'ont point écouté mes paroles - oracle de Yahvé - bien que je leur aie envoyé sans melasser mes serviteurs les prophètes, mais ils ne les ont pas écoutés - oracle de Yahvé.
20 Hear the word of the LORD, all you exiles whom I sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon:	20 Quant à vous, les déportés, que j'ai envoyés de Jérusalem à Babylone, écoutez tous la parole deYahvé! -
21 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah the son of Ma-aseiah, who are prophesying a lie to you in my name: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall slay them before your eyes.	21 Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël, au sujet d'Ahab, fils de Qolaya, et de Cidqiyyahu, filsde Maaséya, qui vous prophétisent en mon nom des mensonges: Voici, je vais les livrer entre les mains deNabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, qui les frappera sous vos yeux.
22 Because of them this curse shall be used by all the exiles from Judah in Babylon: "The LORD make you like Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire,"	22 Et l'on pourra tirer de leur sort cette malédiction qui aura cours chez tous les déportés judéensprésents à Babylone: Que Yahvé te traite comme Cidqiyyahu et Ahab, rôtis au feu par le roi de Babylone!
23 because they have committed folly in Israel, they have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and they have spoken in my name lying words which I did not command them. I am the one who knows, and I am witness, says the LORD.'"	23 C'est qu'ils ont accompli une infamie en Israël, ils ont commis l'adultère avec les femmes de leurprochain, ils ont prononcé en mon nom des paroles de mensonge sans que j'en aie donné l'ordre. Mais moi, jesais et je témoigne, oracle de Yahvé."
24 To Shemaiah of Nehelam you shall say:	24 Et à Shemayahu de Nahlam, tu parleras ainsi:
25 "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: You have sent letters in your name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Ma-aseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,	25 Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël. Puisque toi, tu as envoyé de ton propre chef à tout lepeuple de Jérusalem et au prêtre Cephanya, fils de Maaséya (et à tous les prêtres) une lettre disant:
26 'The LORD has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, to have charge in the house of the LORD over every madman who prophesies, to put him in the stocks and collar.	26 "Yahvé t'a établi prêtre à la place du prêtre Yehoyada, pour exercer la surveillance dans leTemple de Yahvé, sur tout exalté qui joue au prophète; tu dois le mettre au carcan et aux fers.
27 Now why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth who is prophesying to you?	27 Pourquoi alors n'avoir pas corrigé Jérémie d'Anatot qui fait le prophète parmi vous?
28 For he has sent to us in Babylon, saying, "Your exile will be long; build houses and live in them, and plant gardens and eat their produce."'"	28 C'est ainsi qu'il a pu nous adresser à Babylone cette recommandation: Ce sera long! Bâtissez desmaisons et installez-vous; plantez des jardins et mangez leurs fruits."
29 Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremiah the prophet.	29 (Or le prêtre Cephanya avait lu la lettre au prophète Jérémie.)
30 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:	30 La parole de Yahvé fut donc adressée à Jérémie en ces termes:
31 "Send to all the exiles, saying, 'Thus says the LORD concerning Shemaiah of Nehelam: Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you when I did not send him, and has made you trust in a lie,	31 Envoie ce message à tous les déportés: "Ainsi parle Yahvé au sujet de Shemayahu de Nahlam.Puisque Shemayahu vous a prophétisé, alors que je ne l'avais pas envoyé, et qu'il vous a fait vous confier aumensonge,
32 therefore thus says the LORD: Behold, I will punish Shemaiah of Nehelam and his descendants; he shall not have any one living among this people to see the good that I will do to my people, says the LORD, for he has talked rebellion against the LORD.'"	32 eh bien! ainsi parle Yahvé: Je vais châtier Shemayahu de Nahlam ainsi que sa descendance.Aucun des siens n'habitera au milieu de ce peuple pour jouir du bonheur que je veux accorder à mon peuple( -oracle de Yahvé - car il a prêché la révolte contre Yahvé").
