Jeremiah 16

1 The word of the LORD came to me:	1 Une parole de Yahvé me fut adressée:
2 "You shall not take a wife, nor shall you have sons or daughters in this place.	2 Ne te cherche pas d’épouse; tu n’auras ni fils ni filles en ce lieu.
3 For thus says the LORD concerning the sons and daughters who are born in this place, and concerning the mothers who bore them and the fathers who begot them in this land:	3 Car voici la sentence de Yahvé pour les fils et les filles qui naissent en ce lieu, pour les mères qui leur donnent le jour et les pères qui les engendrent dans ce pays:
4 They shall die of deadly diseases. They shall not be lamented, nor shall they be buried; they shall be as dung on the surface of the ground. They shall perish by the sword and by famine, and their dead bodies shall be food for the birds of the air and for the beasts of the earth.	4 Ils connaîtront une mort tragique, on ne fera pas leur deuil et on ne les enterrera pas: ils resteront comme du fumier sur la face de la terre. Ils mourront par l’épée et la famine, et leurs cadavres serviront de nourriture aux oiseaux des cieux et aux bêtes de la terre.
5 "For thus says the LORD: Do not enter the house of mourning, or go to lament, or bemoan them; for I have taken away my peace from this people, says the LORD, my steadfast love and mercy.	5 Car voici ce que dit Yahvé: N’entre pas dans la maison où l’on fait le deuil. Ne te lamente pas, ne pleure pas avec eux, car j’ai privé ce peuple de ma bénédiction, ma pitié et ma miséricorde - parole de Yahvé.
6 Both great and small shall die in this land; they shall not be buried, and no one shall lament for them or cut himself or make himself bald for them.	6 Grands et petits, dans ce pays tous mourront. On ne les enterrera pas, on ne fera pas de lamentations sur eux, on ne se fera pas d’entailles sur le corps, ni de tonsure sur la tête.
7 No one shall break bread for the mourner, to comfort him for the dead; nor shall any one give him the cup of consolation to drink for his father or his mother.	7 On ne prendra pas de repas pour les morts avec celui qui est en deuil, pour le consoler au sujet de son défunt. On ne lui donnera pas à boire la coupe de consolation pour son père ou sa mère.
8 You shall not go into the house of feasting to sit with them, to eat and drink.	8 N’entre pas non plus dans la maison où l’on fait la fête, pour t’asseoir, manger et boire avec eux.
9 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will make to cease from this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.	9 Car voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: Sous vos yeux et de vos jours je ferai taire ici les cris de joie et de fête, le chant du fiancé et le chant de la fiancée.
10 "And when you tell this people all these words, and they say to you, 'Why has the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? What is our iniquity? What is the sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?'	10 Lorsque tu diras tout cela à ce peuple, ils te demanderont certainement: “Pourquoi Yahvé nous annonce-t-il cette grande catastrophe? Quelle est donc notre faute, comment avons-nous péché contre Yahvé notre Dieu?”
11 then you shall say to them: 'Because your fathers have forsaken me, says the LORD, and have gone after other gods and have served and worshiped them, and have forsaken me and have not kept my law,	11 Alors tu leur répondras: Vos pères m’ont abandonné - parole de Yahvé. Ils se sont mis à la traîne d’autres dieux pour les servir et les adorer. Ils m’ont abandonné et n’ont pas gardé ma loi.
12 and because you have done worse than your fathers, for behold, every one of you follows his stubborn evil will, refusing to listen to me;	12 Et vous, vous avez agi plus mal encore que vos pères; chacun de vous s’est obstiné à suivre ses mauvais penchants et a refusé de m’écouter.
13 therefore I will hurl you out of this land into a land which neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you shall serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.'	13 C’est pourquoi je vous chasserai loin de ce pays, vers une terre que ni vous ni vos pères ne connaissez. Là-bas vous pourrez servir jour et nuit d’autres dieux, car moi, je ne vous regarderai pas.
14 "Therefore, behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when it shall no longer be said, 'As the LORD lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt,'	14 (Pourtant des jours viendront - parole de Yahvé- où l’on ne dira plus: “Vive Yahvé qui a fait sortir les Israélites du pays d’Égypte!”
15 but 'As the LORD lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven them.' For I will bring them back to their own land which I gave to their fathers.	15 On dira alors: “Vive Yahvé qui a fait revenir les Israélites du pays du nord et de tous les pays où il les avait chassés.” Car je les ramènerai au pays que j’ai donné à leurs pères.)
16 "Behold, I am sending for many fishers, says the LORD, and they shall catch them; and afterwards I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out of the clefts of the rocks.	16 Voici que j’appelle de nombreux pêcheurs pour les pêcher - parole de Yahvé. Ensuite j’appellerai de nombreux chasseurs pour les chasser sur toutes les montagnes, toutes les collines et dans toutes les fentes des rochers.
17 For my eyes are upon all their ways; they are not hid from me, nor is their iniquity concealed from my eyes.	17 Car je surveille toutes leurs façons d’agir, rien n’est caché à mes yeux et aucune de leurs fautes ne m’échappe.
18 And I will doubly recompense their iniquity and their sin, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable idols, and have filled my inheritance with their abominations."	18 Je leur rendrai le double pour leurs fautes et leurs péchés, car ils ont profané ma terre avec leurs cadavres d’idoles et ils ont rempli mon héritage de leurs ordures.
19 O LORD, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in the day of trouble, to thee shall the nations come from the ends of the earth and say: "Our fathers have inherited nought but lies, worthless things in which there is no profit.	19 Ô Yahvé, tu es ma forteresse et mon refuge, tu es mon abri aux jours de détresse. Les nations païennes viendront à toi du plus lointain du monde, et elle reconnaîtront: “La culture de nos pères n’était que fausseté, stupidité et impuissance.”
20 Can man make for himself gods? Such are no gods!"	20 Faut-il qu’un homme se fabrique des dieux? Alors ce ne sont pas des dieux, et je vais le leur faire savoir. Cette fois-ci je leur ferai connaître ma main et ma puissance, et ils sauront que mon nom est Yahvé!
21 "Therefore, behold, I will make them know, this once I will make them know my power and my might, and they shall know that my name is the LORD."
