Jeremiah 1

1 The words of Jeremiah, the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin,	1 Palabras de Jeremías, hijo de Jilquías, de los sacerdotes de Anatot, en la tierra de Benjamín,
2 to whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.	2 a quien fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh en tiempo de Josías, hijo de Amón, rey de Judá, en el año trece de su reinado,
3 It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, and until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the captivity of Jerusalem in the fifth month.	3 y después en tiempo de Yoyaquim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, hasta cumplirse el año undécimo de Sedecías, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, o sea, hasta la deportación de Jerusalén en el mes quinto.
4 Now the word of the LORD came to me saying,	4 Entonces me fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh en estos términos:
5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations."	5 Antes de haberte formado yo en el seno materno, te conocía, y antes que nacieses, te tenía consagrado: yo profeta de las naciones te constituí.
6 Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth."	6 Yo dije: «¡Ah, Señor Yahveh! Mira que no sé expresarme, que soy un muchacho».
7 But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a youth'; for to all to whom I send you you shall go, and whatever I command you you shall speak.	7 Y me dijo Yahveh: No digas: «Soy un muchacho», pues adondequiera que yo te envíe irás, y todo lo que te mande dirás.
8 Be not afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD."	8 No les tengas miedo, que contigo estoy yo para salvarte - oráculo de Yahveh -.
9 Then the LORD put forth his hand and touched my mouth; and the LORD said to me, "Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.	9 Entonces alargó Yahveh su mano y tocó mi boca. Y me dijo Yahveh: Mira que he puesto mis palabras en tu boca.
10 See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant."	10 Desde hoy mismo te doy autoridad sobre las gentes y sobre los reinos para extirpar y destruir, para peder y derrocar, para reconstruir y plantar.
11 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Jeremiah, what do you see?" And I said, "I see a rod of almond."	11 Entonces me fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh en estos términos: «¿Qué estás viendo, Jeremías?» «Una rama de almendro estoy viendo».
12 Then the LORD said to me, "You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it."	12 Y me dijo Yahveh: «Bien has visto. Pues así soy yo, velador de mi palabra para cumplirla».
13 The word of the LORD came to me a second time, saying, "What do you see?" And I said, "I see a boiling pot, facing away from the north."	13 Nuevamente me fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh en estos términos: «¿Qué estás viendo?» «Un puchero hirviendo estoy viendo, que se vuelca de norte a sur».
14 Then the LORD said to me, "Out of the north evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.	14 Y me dijo Yahveh: «Es que desde el norte se iniciará el desastre sobre todos los moradores de esta tierra.
15 For, lo, I am calling all the tribes of the kingdoms of the north, says the LORD; and they shall come and every one shall set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, against all its walls round about, and against all the cities of Judah.	15 Porque en seguida llamo yo a todas las familias reinos del norte - oráculo de Yahveh - y vendrán a instalarse a las mismas puertas de Jerusalén, y frente a todas sus murallas en torno, y contra todas las ciudades de Judá,
16 And I will utter my judgments against them, for all their wickedness in forsaking me; they have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.	16 a las que yo sentenciaré por toda su malicia: por haberme dejado a mí para ofrecer incienso a otros dioses, y adorar la obra de sus propias manos.
17 But you, gird up your loins; arise, and say to them everything that I command you. Do not be dismayed by them, lest I dismay you before them.	17 Por tu parte, te apretarás la cintura, te alzarás y les dirás todo lo que yo te mande. No desmayes ante ellos, y no te haré yo demayar delante de ellos;
18 And I, behold, I make you this day a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, its princes, its priests, and the people of the land.	18 pues, por mi parte, mira que hoy te he convertido en plaza fuerte, en pilar de hierro, en muralla de bronce frente a toda esta tierra, así se trate de los reyes de Judá como de sus jefes, de sus sacerdotes o del pueblo de la tierra.
19 They will fight against you; but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you, says the LORD, to deliver you."	19 Te harán la guerra, mas no podrán contigo, pues contigo estoy yo - oráculo de Yahveh - para salvarte».
