Isaiah 41

1 Listen to me in silence, O coastlands; let the peoples renew their strength; let them approach, then let them speak; let us together draw near for judgment.	1 Si tacciano le isole dinanzi a me, e le genti si riconfortino; si accostino, e allora parlino, andiamo insieme in giudizio.
2 Who stirred up one from the east whom victory meets at every step? He gives up nations before him, so that he tramples kings under foot; he makes them like dust with his sword, like driven stubble with his bow.	2 Chi suscitò dall'oriente il giusto, e chiamollo perchè lo seguisse? Egli umiliò nel cospetto di lui le nazioni, e lo fé superiore ai regi, divenuti come polvere dinanzi alla sua spada, e come stoppia traportata dal vento dinanzi all'arco di lui.
3 He pursues them and passes on safely, by paths his feet have not trod.	3 Ei li incalzò, andò avanti senza disastro, orma non si vide de' piedi di lui.
4 Who has performed and done this, calling the generations from the beginning? I, the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am He.	4 Chi tali cose operò, e condusse a fine? Chi fin da principio tutte ordinò le generazioni? Io il Signore, il primo, e l'ultimo son io.
5 The coastlands have seen and are afraid, the ends of the earth tremble; they have drawn near and come.	5 Le isole videro, e n'ebber timore: le più rimote genti rimasero stupefatte, e si ravvicinarono, e si unirono.
6 Every one helps his neighbor, and says to his brother, "Take courage!"	6 Ciascheduno spalleggerà il suo vicino, e al suo fratello dirà: Fatti animo.
7 The craftsman encourages the goldsmith, and he who smooths with the hammer him who strikes the anvil, saying of the soldering, "It is good"; and they fasten it with nails so that it cannot be moved.	7 Il bronzista, che lavora al martello, faceva coraggio a quello, che lavorava allora senza incudine, dicendo: La saldatura è buona: e assicura con chiovi la statua, perchè non sia smossa.
8 But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend;	8 Ma tu, o Israele, mio servo, tu Giacobbe eletto da me, stirpe di Abramo amico mio;
9 you whom I took from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, "You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off";	9 Tu, cui io trassi dagli estremi confini della terra, e dalla rimota patria di lui ti chiamai, e ti dissi: Servo mio se' tu, io ti ho eletto, e non ti ho rigettato.
10 fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.	10 Non aver paura; perocché io son teco: non torcer di strada; perocché io sono il tuo Dio: ti ho fortificato, e ti ho aiutato, e la destra del giusto mio ti sostenne.
11 Behold, all who are incensed against you shall be put to shame and confounded; those who strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish.	11 Ecco che saranno confusi, e svergognati quelli, che a te fanno guerra: saran come se non fossero, e periranno quei, che a te contraddicono.
12 You shall seek those who contend with you, but you shall not find them; those who war against you shall be as nothing at all.	12 Cercherai di loro, e non li troverai questi uomini ribelli a te: saranno come se non fossero, e come distruzione gli uomini, che combattono contro di te;
13 For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, "Fear not, I will help you."	13 Perocché io sono il Signore Dio tuo, che te prendo per mano, e ti dico: Non temere, io sono tuo soccorso.
14 Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel! I will help you, says the LORD; your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.	14 Vermicciuolo come sei, non temere, o Giacobbe, né voi, o morti d'Israele: io son tuo aiuto, dice il Signore; e tuo Redentore è il Santo d'Israele.
15 Behold, I will make of you a threshing sledge, new, sharp, and having teeth; you shall thresh the mountains and crush them, and you shall make the hills like chaff;	15 Io ti farò diventare come un carro nuovo da tribbiare i grani, armato di denti di ferro: tu tribbierai, e pesterai i monti, e ridurrai in polvere le colline.
16 You shall winnow them and the wind shall carry them away, and the tempest shall scatter them. And you shall rejoice in the LORD; in the Holy One of Israel you shall glory.	16 Tu le scuoterai, e 'l vento le porterà, e il turbine le spergerà: e tu esulterai nel Signore, ti rallegrerai nel Santo d'Israele.
17 When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the LORD will answer them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.	17 I poveri, e i mendichi cercano acqua, e acqua non è: secca è per la sete la loro lingua: io Signore li esaudirò, io Dio d'Israele non li lascerò in abbandono.
18 I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.	18 Io scaturir farò ne' più alti colli de' fiumi, e delle sorgive in mezzo a' campi: il deserto cangerò in istagni di acque, e la secca terra disabitata cangerò in rivi di acque.
19 I will put in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia, the myrtle, and the olive; I will set in the desert the cypress, the plane and the pine together;	19 Nella solitudine farò venire il cedro, il setim, e il mirto, e la pianta di ulivo: e nel deserto porrò insieme l'abete, l'olmo, e il bussolo:
20 that men may see and know, may consider and understand together, that the hand of the LORD has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it.	20 Affinchè tutti insieme veggano, e sappiano, e ripensino, e intendano, che la mano del Signore ha fatta tal cosa, e il Santo d'Israele la ha creata.
21 Set forth your case, says the LORD; bring your proofs, says the King of Jacob.	21 Date fuora la vostra difesa, dice il Signore: proponete se qualche cosa avete di forte, dice il Re di Giacobbe.
22 Let them bring them, and tell us what is to happen. Tell us the former things, what they are, that we may consider them, that we may know their outcome; or declare to us the things to come.	22 Vengano, e annunzino a noi tutte le cose, che sono per avvenire: narrate le cose precedenti, che furon; e noi intenderemo, e sapremo quelle, che verran lor dietro; annunziate le cose future.
23 Tell us what is to come hereafter, that we may know that you are gods; do good, or do harm, that we may be dismayed and terrified.	23 Annunziate le cose, che verranno in futuro, e conosceremo, che voi siete dii: fate eziandio del bene, o del male, se pur il potete: e parliamo, e discorriamola insieme.
24 Behold, you are nothing, and your work is nought; an abomination is he who chooses you.	24 Ma voi siete dal nulla, e il vostro essere viene da ciò, che non è: abbominazione è colui, che a voi rendo culto.
25 I stirred up one from the north, and he has come, from the rising of the sun, and he shall call on my name; he shall trample on rulers as on mortar, as the potter treads clay.	25 Lo chiamai dal settentrione, e venne dall'oriente: egli invocò il nome mio, e calpestò i principi come fango, e come il vasaio pesta la molle terra.
26 Who declared it from the beginning, that we might know, and beforetime, that we might say, "He is right"? There was none who declared it, none who proclaimed, none who heard your words.	26 Chi tali cose ha predette fin da principio, affinchè noi lo conosciamo: e sino da tempi antichi, affinchè diciamo: Sta per te la giustizia? Ma non è chi profetizzi, né chi predica, né v'ha chi vi senta parlare.
27 I first have declared it to Zion, and I give to Jerusalem a herald of good tidings.	27 Il primo dirà a Sionne: Ecco che quegli son qui: e darò a Gerusalemme un apportator di lieta novella.
28 But when I look there is no one; among these there is no counselor who, when I ask, gives an answer.	28 E osservai, e non era alcuno neppur tra questi, che fosse capace di consiglio, e interrogato rispondesse parola.
29 Behold, they are all a delusion; their works are nothing; their molten images are empty wind.	29 Tutti adunque sono iniqui, e vane sono le opere loro: e i lor simolacri son vento, e inanità
