Isaiah 37

1 When King Hezekiah heard it, he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.	1 E avvenne, poi che Ezechia avè udite queste parole, egli stracciò le sue vestimenta, e avvolsesi in uno sacco, ed entrò nella casa di Dio.
2 And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and the senior priests, clothed with sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz.	2 E mandò Eliacim maestro della casa, e Sobna scrivano, e li antichi sacerdoti, coperti di sacco, a Isaia figliuolo di Amos [profeta].
3 They said to him, "Thus says Hezekiah, 'This day is a day of distress, of rebuke, and of disgrace; children have come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.	3 E dissono a lui: questo dice Ezechia: questo di sì è di tribulazione (e d'angoscia) e di correzione e di biastemia; però che gli figliuoli vennero infino appresso al parto, e non fu virtude del partorire.
4 It may be that the LORD your God heard the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to mock the living God, and will rebuke the words which the LORD your God has heard; therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.'"	4 Se in alcuno modo oda il tuo Signore Iddio le parole di Rabsace, lo quale mandò lo re delli Assirii suo signore a biastemare lo Signore vivente, e a biastemarlo colle parole le quali udio il tuo Signore Iddio; adunque leva suso e fa orazione a Dio per lo rimanente, che sono ritornati.
5 When the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah,	5 E vennero li servi di Ezechia a Isaia.
6 Isaiah said to them, "Say to your master, 'Thus says the LORD: Do not be afraid because of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have reviled me.	6 E disse Isaia a loro: questo direte al vostro signore, che questo dice Iddio: non temere la faccia delle parole le quali tu udisti, colle quali parole li servi dello re delli Assirii bestemmiarono me.
7 Behold, I will put a spirit in him, so that he shall hear a rumor, and return to his own land; and I will make him fall by the sword in his own land.'"	7 Ecco io darò a lui lo spirito, e udirà li messaggi, e ritornerà alla terra sua; e farollo rovinare per (percussione di) coltello nella sua terra.
8 The Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah; for he had heard that the king had left Lachish.	8 E Rabsace ritornò, e trovò lo re delli Assirii che combattea contro (una terra che aveva nome) Lobna. Ed elli avea udito ch' elli era andato (e partitosi) di Lachis (cioè una terra).
9 Now the king heard concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, "He has set out to fight against you." And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,	9 E udio che diceano di Taraca, re di Etiopia: io sono uscito fuori per combattere contro a te. E quando egli ebbe udito questo, mandoe messaggio allo re Ezechia, [dicendo]:
10 "Thus shall you speak to Hezekiah king of Judah: 'Do not let your God on whom you rely deceive you by promising that Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.	10 ... non ti inganni ora lo tuo Iddio, per lo quale tu tieni fermo per fidanza, [dicendo]: e tu, Ierusalem, non sarai data nelle mani del re delli Assirii.
11 Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, destroying them utterly. And shall you be delivered?	11 Ecco, tu hai udito quello che hanno fatto tutti li nobili re di Assur a tutte le terre le quali loro rivolsono sottosopra; e tu se' quello che potrai essere libero?
12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them, the nations which my fathers destroyed, Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Tel-assar?	12 Or i dii delle genti hanno potuto liberare coloro i quali i padri miei rivolsono sottosopra, cioè Gozam e Aram e Resef e li figliuoli di Eden, i quali erano in Talassar (di Raim)?
13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, the king of Hena, or the king of Ivvah?"	13 Dov'è lo re di Emat, e lo re di Arfad e lo re della terra di Sefarvaim, e Ana e Ava? (Quasi dica questo re delli Assirii: tutti questi signori non poterono liberare nè difendere).
14 Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.	14 E (poi che questi messaggi ebbono finita loro ambasciata) lo re Ezechia tolse li libri (le lettere, cioè) di mano alli messaggi, e lesseli, e salìo nella casa di Dio (cioè nella chiesa), e sparse [li] dinanzi allo Signore.
15 And Hezekiah prayed to the LORD:	15 E fece orazione a Dio, dicendo:
16 "O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, who art enthroned above the cherubim, thou art the God, thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.	16 O Signore delli esèrciti, Iddio d' Israel, il quale siede sopra i cherubini; tu se' solo Iddio di tutti i reami (Signore) della terra; (cioè) tu facesti (e formasti) lo cielo e la terra.
17 Incline thy ear, O LORD, and hear; open thy eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God.	17 O Signore, (assai umiliandomi ti prego che) ti piaccia d'udirmi; o Signore, apri li tuoi occhi, e vedi, e odi (e riguarda) tutte le parole di Sennacherib, le quali egli mandò a biastemmiare lo Iddio vivente.
18 Of a truth, O LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands,	18 Veramente, o Signore, li re delli Assirii hanno fatte le terre deserte, e le loro contrade.
19 and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; therefore they were destroyed.	19 E loro li dii di quelle contrade diedono al fuoco; ma loro non erano dii, ma opera manuale d' uomini; erano legni e pietre, e spezzarono quelli.
20 So now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou alone art the LORD."	20 E ora ti vogliamo pregare, nostro Signore Iddio, che tu salvi noi della sua mano; e (sappiano e) conoscano tutti li reami del mondo, che tu sei solo Signore Iddio.
21 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,	21 E Isaia figliuolo di Amos mandò dicendo allo re Ezechia: questo dice lo Signore Iddio di Israel: per le quali cose pregasti me di Sennacherib re delli Assirii,
22 this is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning him: 'She despises you, she scorns you-- the virgin daughter of Zion; she wags her head behind you-- the daughter of Jerusalem.	22 questa è la parola la quale Iddio ha parlato sopra lui: te, vergine [figliuola] di Sion, ha dileggiato (e ha dispregiato), e fattosi beffe di te; e la (vergine) figliuola di Ierusalem moverà (e scrollerà) lo capo sopra te.
23 'Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have you raised your voice and haughtily lifted your eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!	23 Cui hai tu biastemato, e cui biastemasti tu con la tua voce, e alzasti l'altezza de' tuoi occhi? Tu hai fatto questo al santo di Israel.
24 By your servants you have mocked the Lord, and you have said, With my many chariots I have gone up the heights of the mountains, to the far recesses of Lebanon; I felled its tallest cedars, its choicest cypresses; I came to its remotest height, its densest forest.	24 Nella mano de' tuoi servi biastemasti lo Signore Iddio, e dicesti: per la moltitudine de' miei carri io salii in suso l'altezza de' monti, che sono li gioghi dello Libano; e taglierò li alti suoi cedri, e li eletti abeti, ed entrarò l'altezza della sua cima, e lo bosco (cioè lo termine del monte) di Carmelo.
25 I dug wells and drank waters, and I dried up with the sole of my foot all the streams of Egypt.	25 Io (lo) cavai, e bevvi l'acqua, e seccai con lo vestigio dello mio piede tutti li rivoli che vanno per li campi (per che stiano freschi).
26 'Have you not heard that I determined it long ago? I planned from days of old what now I bring to pass, that you should make fortified cities crash into heaps of ruins,	26 Or non hai tu udito quello che io hoe fatto loro? Già è antico tempo ch' io mi dispuosi per fare quello, e ora l' hoe fatto, (cioè che tanto vuole dire: egli è lungo tempo ch' io pensai di fare male alli Giudei, e ora l'ho fatto venire sopra loro); hoe fatto eradicare li colli delli combattitori e delle cittadi armate.
27 while their inhabitants, shorn of strength, are dismayed and confounded, and have become like plants of the field and like tender grass, like grass on the housetops, blighted before it is grown.	27 Li abitatori di quelle temerono, perchè la loro mano era abbreviata, e sono confusi; e sono fatti come lo fieno del campo, e come la gramigna della pastura, e come erba delli tetti, la quale si secca inanzi che la si maturi.
28 'I know your sitting down and your going out and coming in, and your raging against me.	28 Io ho sapulo la tua abitazione (cioè lo tuo stare), e lo tuo entrare, e lo tuo uscire, e la tua pazzia.
29 Because you have raged against me and your arrogance has come to my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will turn you back on the way by which you came.'	29 Quando tu impazzivi contro a me, la tua superbia ascese nelle mie orecchie; io porrò lo cerchiello nel tuo naso (a modo d' uno anello), e metterò lo freno nella tua bocca, e rimenerò te per la via, per la quale tu venisti.
30 "And this shall be the sign for you: this year eat what grows of itself, and in the second year what springs of the same; then in the third year sow and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.	30 E a te sarà questo segno: mangia in questo primo anno quelle [cose] che nascono da loro voglia (cioè di quelle cose che ti verranno), e lo secondo anno usa le poma; e nel terzo anno seminate e mietete; e piantate le vigne, e mangiate lo loro frutto.
31 And the surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward;	31 E quello che sarà stato salvo dalla casa di Giuda, e quello che sarà rimaso, metterà le radici di sotto, e farà lo suo frutto.
32 for out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.	32 Per che di Ierusalem usciranno le reliquie, e la salvazione del monte di Sion; e lo zelo (e lo amore) dello Signore delli esèrciti farà questo.
33 "Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city, or shoot an arrow there, or come before it with a shield, or cast up a siege mound against it.	33 E però questo dice lo Signore (delli esèrciti) dello re delli Assirii: egli non entrerà in questa cittade, e non ci saetterà, e scudo non occuperà lei, e non metterà nel suo circuito argine.
34 By the way that he came, by the same he shall return, and he shall not come into this city, says the LORD.	34 Per la via ch' egli venne, per quella sì ritornerà, e non entrerà per questa città, dice lo Signore.
35 For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for the sake of my servant David."	35 E difenderò questa cittade, per salvare quella per me, e per David servo mio.
36 And the angel of the LORD went forth, and slew a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians; and when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.	36 E l'angelo di Dio uscì fuori, e percosse nel campo di quelli di Assur CLXXXV milia di uomini; e levaronsi la mattina, e tutti erano corpi morti.
37 Then Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went home and dwelt at Nineveh.	37 E uscirono fuori e partironsi; e Sennacherib, re delli Assirii, sì tornò, e abitò in (una terra che si chiama) Ninive.
38 And as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, slew him with the sword, and escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead.	38 E avvenne, mentre ch' elli adorava nel tempio lo suo Iddio (che avea nome) Nesroc, e vennero due suoi figliuoli che avean nome Adramelec e (l'altro) Sarasar, e percossono lui collo coltello, e fuggirono nella terra che si chiama Ararat; e regnò (per lui) Asaraddon suo figliuolo per lui.
