1 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.	1 En el año catorce del rey Ezequías subió Senaquerib, rey de Asur, contra todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá y se apoderó de ellas.
2 And the king of Assyria sent the Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem, with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool on the highway to the Fuller's Field.	2 El rey de Asur envió desde Lakís a Jerusalén, donde el rey Ezequías, al copero mayor con un fuerte destacamento. Se colocó éste en el canal de la alberca superior, que está junto al camino del campo del Batanero.
3 And there came out to him Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder.	3 El mayordomo de palacio, Elyaquim, hijo de Jilquías, el secretario Sebná y el heraldo Yoaj, hijo de Asaf, salieron donde él.
4 And the Rabshakeh said to them, "Say to Hezekiah, 'Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: On what do you rest this confidence of yours?	4 El copero mayor les dijo: «Decid a Ezequías: Así habla el gran rey, el rey de Asur: ¿Qué confianza es ésa en la que fías?
5 Do you think that mere words are strategy and power for war? On whom do you now rely, that you have rebelled against me?	5 Te has pensado que meras palabras de los labios son consejo y bravura para la guerra. Pero ahora ¿en quién confías, que te has rebelado contra mí?
6 Behold, you are relying on Egypt, that broken reed of a staff, which will pierce the hand of any man who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who rely on him.	6 Mira: te has confiado al apoyo de esa caña rota, de Egipto, que penetra y traspasa la mano del que se apoya sobre ella. Pues así es Faraón, rey de Egipto, para todos los que confían en él.
7 But if you say to me, "We rely on the LORD our God," is it not he whose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, "You shall worship before this altar"?	7 Pero vais a decirme: “Nosotros confiamos en Yahveh nuestro Dios.” ¿No ha sido él, Ezequías, quien ha suprimido los altos y los altares y ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalén: “Os postraréis delante de este altar?”
8 Come now, make a wager with my master the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders upon them.	8 Pues apuesta ahora con mi señor, el rey de Asur: te daré dos mil caballos si eres capaz de encontrarte jinetes para ellos.
9 How then can you repulse a single captain among the least of my master's servants, when you rely on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?	9 ¿Cómo harías retroceder a uno solo de los más pequeños servidores de mi señor? ¡Te fías de Egipto para tener carros y gentes de carro!
10 Moreover, is it without the LORD that I have come up against this land to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.'"	10 Y ahora ¿acaso he subido yo contra esta tierra para destruirla, sin contar con Yahveh? Yahveh me ha dicho: “Sube contra esta tierra y destrúyela.”»
11 Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah said to the Rabshakeh, "Pray, speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it; do not speak to us in the language of Judah within the hearing of the people who are on the wall."	11 Dijeron Elyaquim, Sebná y Yoaj al copero mayor: «Por favor, háblanos a nosotros tus siervos en arameo, que lo entendemos; no nos hables en lengua de Judá a oídos del pueblo que está sobre la muralla».
12 But the Rabshakeh said, "Has my master sent me to speak these words to your master and to you, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are doomed with you to eat their own dung and drink their own urine?"	12 El copero mayor dijo: «¿Acaso mi señor me ha enviado a decir estas cosas a tu señor, o a ti, y no a los hombres que se encuentran sobre la muralla, que tienen que comer sus excrementos y beber sus orinas con vosotros?»
13 Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out in a loud voice in the language of Judah: "Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria!	13 Se puso en pie el copero mayor y gritó con gran voz en lengua judía, diciendo: «Escuchad las palabras del gran rey, el rey de Asur.
14 Thus says the king: 'Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you.	14 Así dice el rey: No os engañe Ezequías, porque no podrá libraros.
15 Do not let Hezekiah make you rely on the LORD by saying, "The LORD will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria."	15 Que Ezequías no os haga confíar en Yahveh diciendo: “De cierto nos librará Yahveh, y esta ciudad no será entregada en manos del rey de Asur.”
16 Do not listen to Hezekiah; for thus says the king of Assyria: Make your peace with me and come out to me; then every one of you will eat of his own vine, and every one of his own fig tree, and every one of you will drink the water of his own cistern;	16 No escuchéis a Ezequías, porque así dice el rey de Asur: Haced paces conmigo, rendíos a mí, y comerá cada uno de su viña y de su higuera, y beberá cada uno de su cisterna,
17 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.	17 hasta que yo llegue y os lleve a una tierra como vuestra tierra, tierra de trigo y de mosto, tierra de pan y de viñas.
18 Beware lest Hezekiah mislead you by saying, "The LORD will deliver us." Has any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?	18 Que no os engañe Ezequías, diciendo: “Yahveh nos librará.” ¿Acaso los dioses de las naciones han librado cada uno a su tierra de la mano del rey de Asur?
19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?	19 ¿Dónde están los dioses de Jamat y de Arpad, dónde los dioses de Sefarváyim, dónde están los dioses de Samaría? ¿Acaso han librado a Samaría de mi mano?
20 Who among all the gods of these countries have delivered their countries out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?"	20 ¿Quiénes, de entre todos los dioses de los países, los han librado de mi poder, para que libre Yahveh a Jerusalén de mi mano?»
21 But they were silent and answered him not a word, for the king's command was, "Do not answer him."	21 Calló el pueblo y no le respondió una palabra, porque el rey había dado esta orden diciendo: «No le respondáis».
22 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of the Rabshakeh.	22 Elyaquim, hijo de Jilquías, mayordomo de palacio, el secretario Sebná y el heraldo Yoaj, hijo de Asaf, fueron donde Ezequías, desgarrados los vestidos, y le relataron las palabras del copero mayor.
