Isaiah 13

1 The oracle concerning Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.	1 - Vaticinio su Babilonia visto da Isaia, figlio di Amos.
2 On a bare hill raise a signal, cry aloud to them; wave the hand for them to enter the gates of the nobles.	2 Sulla vetta caliginosa inalberate il vessillo, alzate la voce, agitate la mano e varchino le porte i condottieri.
3 I myself have commanded my consecrated ones, have summoned my mighty men to execute my anger, my proudly exulting ones.	3 Io ho dato l'ordine ai consacrati miei; ho chiamato, esecutori del mio sdegno, i miei forti, esultanti nella mia gloria.
4 Hark, a tumult on the mountains as of a great multitude! Hark, an uproar of kingdoms, of nations gathering together! The LORD of hosts is mustering a host for battle.	4 Voce d'una moltitudine sui monti, pari a quella di popoli in gran folla, rumorose voci di re, di genti adunate. Il Signore degli eserciti comanda le schiere di battaglia,
5 They come from a distant land, from the end of the heavens, the LORD and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole earth.	5 che vengono da terra lontana dall'estremo dell'orizzonte: il Signore, cogli strumenti della sua indignazione, per dare il guasto a tutta la terra.
6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is near; as destruction from the Almighty it will come!	6 Urlate, perchè il giorno del Signore è vicino, verrà come lo sterminio che manda il Signore.
7 Therefore all hands will be feeble, and every man's heart will melt,	7 Per questo ogni mano si sentirà cascare, ogni uomo sentirà il cuore liquefarsi,
8 and they will be dismayed. Pangs and agony will seize them; they will be in anguish like a woman in travail. They will look aghast at one another; their faces will be aflame.	8 e resterà accasciato. Li sorprenderanno contorsioni e doglie, come una partoriente spasimeranno, si guarderanno l'un l'altro istupiditi, colle facce come scottate dal fuoco.
9 Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the earth a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it.	9 Ecco il giorno del Signore, viene crudele e pieno di indignazione, e d'ira e furore, per mettere la terra nella desolazione e sterminare da essa i suoi peccatori.
10 For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be dark at its rising and the moon will not shed its light.	10 Perchè gli astri del cielo e le loro splendide costellazioni non spanderanno più il loro lume; il sole sorgerà oscuro dall'orizzonte, e la luna non splenderà più della sua luce.
11 I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pride of the arrogant, and lay low the haughtiness of the ruthless.	11 E punirò il mondo della malvagità, e gli empi della loro iniquità; e farò cessare l'orgoglio degli infedeli, e l'arroganza dei prepotenti umilierò.
12 I will make men more rare than fine gold, and mankind than the gold of Ophir.	12 Le persone saranno rare più che l'oro, e gli uomini più che l'oro colato.
13 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the LORD of hosts in the day of his fierce anger.	13 Oltre questo, scoterò il cielo, la terra si smuoverà dal suo luogo per l'indignazione del Signore degli eserciti, e pel giorno della sua ira furibonda.
14 And like a hunted gazelle, or like sheep with none to gather them, every man will turn to his own people, and every man will flee to his own land.	14 E avverrà come d'una gazzella fuggiasca e come di una pecora che nessuno raccoglie: ciascuno si volgerà al suo popolo, ciascuno si rifugerà alla sua terra.
15 Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword.	15 Chiunque sarà trovato, sarà trafitto, e quanti sopraggiungeranno cadranno sotto la spada.
16 Their infants will be dashed in pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished.	16 I loro fanciulli saranno sfracellati davanti ai loro occhi, e le loro case saccheggiate, e violentate le loro donne.
17 Behold, I am stirring up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold.	17 Ecco ch'io susciterò contro di loro i Medi, che non fanno conto dell'argento, e non sono amanti di oro;
18 Their bows will slaughter the young men; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb; their eyes will not pity children.	18 ma colle aste colpiranno i giovani, e dei frutti del ventre non sentiranno pietà, e il loro occhio non avrà compassione dei figliuoli.
19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the splendor and pride of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them.	19 E quella Babilonia tanto gloriosa fra i regni, orgoglioso vanto dei Caldei, sarà come Sodoma e Gomorra sovvertita dal Signore.
20 It will never be inhabited or dwelt in for all generations; no Arab will pitch his tent there, no shepherds will make their flocks lie down there.	20 Non sarà mai più abitata e non riedificata pel volgere di generazioni e generazioni. E l'Arabo neppure vi pianterà le sue tende, nè pastori si sdraieranno in quei luoghi.
21 But wild beasts will lie down there, and its houses will be full of howling creatures; there ostriches will dwell, and there satyrs will dance.	21 Ma le bestie quivi si accovacceranno, quelle case saranno piene di serpentacci, ivi avranno la loro dimora gli struzzi, ivi le irsute fiere vi faranno la ridda;
22 Hyenas will cry in its towers, and jackals in the pleasant palaces; its time is close at hand and its days will not be prolonged.	22 nei loro palazzi i gufi si risponderanno, e nei loro templi deliziosi vi saranno le civette.
