Isaiah 1

1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.	1 Visione d'Isaia, figlio di Amos, da lui veduta, relativamente a Giuda e a Gerusalemme, al tempo d'Ozia, di Ioatan, di Acaz e di Ezechia, re di Giuda.
2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the LORD has spoken: "Sons have I reared and brought up, but they have rebelled against me.	2 « Udite, o cieli, e tu porgi l'orecchio, o terra; perchè il Signore ha parlato: ho nutriti ed esaltati dei figli, ed essi mi han disprezzato.
3 The ox knows its owner, and the ass its master's crib; but Israel does not know, my people does not understand."	3 Il bue conosce il suo padrone, e l'asino la greppia del suo signore; ma Israele non mi riconosce; il popolo mio non intende.
4 Ah, sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, sons who deal corruptly! They have forsaken the LORD, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they are utterly estranged.	4 Guai alla nazione peccatrice, al popolo carico d'iniquità, alla razza malvagia, ai figli scellerati: hanno abbandonato il Signore, han bestemmiato il santo d'Israele, si sono allontanati, voltando le spalle.
5 Why will you still be smitten, that you continue to rebel? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.	5 Dove devo percuotervi ancora, se aggiungete altre prevaricazioni? Il capo è tutto malato, il cuore è tutto afflitto:
6 From the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but bruises and sores and bleeding wounds; they are not pressed out, or bound up, or softened with oil.	6 dalla pianta dei piedi alla sommità della testa non vi è in lui nulla di sano: è tutto ferite e lividure, piaghe marciose, non fasciate, non medicate, nè addolcite coll'olio.
7 Your country lies desolate, your cities are burned with fire; in your very presence aliens devour your land; it is desolate, as overthrown by aliens.	7 Il vostro paese è deserto, le vostre città son consumate dal fuoco, i vostri possessi son divorati, sotto i vostri occhi, dagli stranieri: la devastazione sarà come quella d'un nemico.
8 And the daughter of Zion is left like a booth in a vineyard, like a lodge in a cucumber field, like a besieged city.	8 La figlia di Sion rimarrà come una capanna in una vigna, come un tugurio in un cocomeraio, come una città abbandonata al saccheggio.
9 If the LORD of hosts had not left us a few survivors, we should have been like Sodom, and become like Gomorrah.	9 Se il Signore degli eserciti non avesse lasciato di noi semenza, noi saremmo come Sodoma, saremmo simili a Gomorra.
10 Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom! Give ear to the teaching of our God, you people of Gomorrah!	10 Udite la parola del Signore, o principi di Sodoma, porgi l'orecchio alla legge del nostro Dio, o popolo di Gomorra.
11 "What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices? says the LORD; I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts; I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of he-goats.	11 Che me ne faccio della moltitudine delle vostre vittime? dice il Signore. Ne son pieno. Non voglio olocausti d'arieti, grasso di pingui bovi, sangue di vitelli, d'agnelli e di capri.
12 "When you come to appear before me, who requires of you this trampling of my courts?	12 Quando voi venite a presentarvi al mio cospetto, chi v'ha mai chieste queste cose e di andare a spasso pei miei cortili?
13 Bring no more vain offerings; incense is an abomination to me. New moon and sabbath and the calling of assemblies-- I cannot endure iniquity and solemn assembly.	13 Non seguitate ad offrir vani sacrifizi: abomino l'incenso, non posso patir il novilunio, il sabato e le altre feste: le vostre adunanze sono inique.
14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they have become a burden to me, I am weary of bearing them.	14 L'anima mia odia i vostri noviluni e le vostre solennità; mi son diventate un peso: sono stanco di sopportarle.
15 When you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.	15 Quando stenderete le vostre mani, rivolgerò gli occhi altrove, quando moltiplicherete le preghiere, non darò ascolto; perchè le vostre mani son piene di sangue.
16 Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil,	16 Lavatevi, purificatevi, togliete la malvagità dei vostri pensieri lungi dai miei occhi; cessate di fare il male,
17 learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.	17 imparate a fare il bene, cercate la giustizia, soccorrete l'oppresso, proteggete l'orfano, difendete la vedova.
18 "Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.	18 « Orsù venite, accusatemi, — dice il Signore. — Se i vostri peccati fossero come scarlatto, diventeranno bianchi come la neve; e se fossero vermigli come la cocciniglia, diverranno bianchi come la lana.
19 If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;	19 Se di buona volontà mi ascolterete, mungerete i beni della terra.
20 But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken."	20 Ma se resisterete e mi provocherete a sdegno, la spada vi divorerà, perchè la bocca del Signore ha parlato ».
21 How the faithful city has become a harlot, she that was full of justice! Righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.	21 Come ha fatto a diventare una prostituta la città fedele e piena d'equità? Era sede della giustizia, ma ora (è sedo) dell'omicida.
22 Your silver has become dross, your wine mixed with water.	22 Il tuo argento è andato in scoria, il tuo vino è mescolato coll'acqua.
23 Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves. Every one loves a bribe and runs after gifts. They do not defend the fatherless, and the widow's cause does not come to them.	23 I tuoi principi sono degli infedeli, son compagni dei ladri, tutti quanti amano i regali, van dietro al guadagno; non rendon ragione all'orfano, e la causa della vedova non arriva fino a loro.
24 Therefore the Lord says, the LORD of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: "Ah, I will vent my wrath on my enemies, and avenge myself on my foes.	24 Per questo dice il Signore, Dio degli eserciti, il Forte d'Israele: « Ahi! Prenderò soddisfazione sopra i miei avversari, e mi vendicherò sopra i miei nemici.
25 I will turn my hand against you and will smelt away your dross as with lye and remove all your alloy.	25 Poi stesa sopra di te la mia mano, ti purificherò col fuoco dalla tua scoria, e toglierò tutto lo stagno che è in te.
26 And I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city."	26 E renderò i tuoi giudici come eran prima, e i tuoi consiglieri come erano in antico. Dopo ciò sarai chiamata la città del giusto, la città fedele ».
27 Zion shall be redeemed by justice, and those in her who repent, by righteousness.	27 Sion sarà redenta in giudizio e messa in libertà per giustizia.
28 But rebels and sinners shall be destroyed together, and those who forsake the LORD shall be consumed.	28 Ma (Dio) stritolerà insieme scelerati e peccatori, e quelli che hanno abbandonato il Signore saran consumati.
29 For you shall be ashamed of the oaks in which you delighted; and you shall blush for the gardens which you have chosen.	29 Essi si vergogneranno dogli idoli ai quali sacrificarono, e voi vi vergognerete degli orti da voi eletti,
30 For you shall be like an oak whose leaf withers, and like a garden without water.	30 quando sarete come quercia dalle foglie cadute, e come orto senz'acqua.
31 And the strong shall become tow, and his work a spark, and both of them shall burn together, with none to quench them.	31 E la vostra fortezza sarà come favilla di stoppa, e l'opera vostra (ne sarà) come la scintilla: tutt'e due insieme andranno in fiamme, e non vi sarà nessuno che possa spegnerle.
