1 A wise magistrate will educate his people, and the rule of an understanding man will be well ordered.	1 Il giudice sapiente corregge il suo popolo e il governo di un uomo prudente è ordinato.
2 Like the magistrate of the people, so are his officials; and like the ruler of the city, so are all its inhabitants.	2 Come il giudice del popolo, così i suoi ministri; come il capo della città, così i suoi abitanti.
3 An undisciplined king will ruin his people, but a city will grow through the understanding of its rulers.	3 Un re dissoluto rovina il suo popolo e una città cresce per la saggezza dei reggitori.
4 The government of the earth is in the hands of the Lord, and over it he will raise up the right man for the time.	4 Nelle mani di Dio è il potere della terra; su di essa suscita a suo tempo l’uomo opportuno.
5 The success of a man is in the hands of the Lord, and he confers his honor upon the person of the scribe.	5 Nelle mani di Dio c’è il dominio su ogni uomo ed egli conferisce onore al legislatore.
6 Do not be angry with your neighbor for any injury, and do not attempt anything by acts of insolence.	6 Non rendere male al prossimo per ogni ingiuria e non camminare per le vie dell’alterigia.
7 Arrogance is hateful before the Lord and before men, and injustice is outrageous to both.	7 L’alterigia è odiosa al Signore e agli uomini; l’oppressione è un delitto per tutti e due.
8 Sovereignty passes from nation to nation on account of injustice and insolence and wealth.	8 Il regno viene trasferito da gente a gente a causa della violenza e dell’alterigia.
9 How can he who is dust and ashes be proud? for even in life his bowels decay.	9 Perché insuperbisce la polvere e la cenere, se; pur vivendo, imputridisce il suo corpo?
10 A long illness baffles the physician; the king of today will die tomorrow.	10 Male leggero, sereno il medico: oggi re e domani prostrato;
11 For when a man is dead he will inherit creeping things, and wild beasts, and worms.	11 quando muore all’uomo tocca la putredine, vermi, insetti e bachi in quantità!
12 The beginning of man's pride is to depart from the Lord; his heart has forsaken his Maker.	12 Principio dell’orgoglio nell’uomo è l’allontanarsi dal Signore e abbandonare con il cuore il creatore:
13 For the beginning of pride is sin, and the man who clings to it pours out abominations. Therefore the Lord brought upon them extraordinary afflictions, and destroyed them utterly.	13 congerie di superbia, infatti, è il peccato; da esso, come da una fonte, promana la cattiveria. Così Dio colpisce e ferisce il loro cuore e lo percuote fino alla distruzione.
14 The Lord has cast down the thrones of rulers, and has seated the lowly in their place.	14 Dio abbatte il trono dei superbi e al loro posto colloca gli umili.
15 The Lord has plucked up the roots of the nations, and has planted the humble in their place.	15 Dio estirpa le radici dei superbi e pianta gli umili al loro posto.
16 The Lord has overthrown the lands of the nations, and has destroyed them to the foundations of the earth.	16 Il Signore ha sconvolto le regoli delle genti e le ha rovinate fino nelle fondamenta della terra;
17 He has removed some of them and destroyed them, and has extinguished the memory of them from the earth.	17 le ha spazzate dalla terra e le ha dissipate, dalla terra ne ha cancellato la memoria!
18 Pride was not created for men, nor fierce anger for those born of women.	18 All’uomo non conviene l’orgoglio né l’ardore dell’ira a un figlio di donna.
19 What race is worthy of honor? The human race. What race is worthy of honor? Those who fear the Lord. What race is unworthy of honor? The human race. What race is unworthy of honor? Those who transgress the commandments.	19 Qual è la razza onorata? la razza umana; qual è la razza onorata? la razza di coloro che temono il Signore.
20 Among brothers their leader is worthy of honor, and those who fear the Lord are worthy of honor in his eyes.	20 Qual è la razza in disonore? la razza umana; qual è la razza in disonore? la razza di coloro che trasgrediscono la legge.
21 .	21 Tra i fratelli viene onorato il capo; ma agli occhi del Signore coloro che lo temono.
22 The rich, and the eminent, and the poor-- their glory is the fear of the Lord.	22 Forestiero o pellegrino, straniero o povero: titolo di gloria per essi è il timore di Dio.
23 It is not right to despise an intelligent poor man, nor is it proper to honor a sinful man.	23 Non bisogna disprezzare il povero che è saggio, né bisogna onorare il ricco che è empio.
24 The nobleman, and the judge, and the ruler will be honored, but none of them is greater than the man who fears the Lord.	24 Si onorano i nobili, chi domina e i magistrati; ma non c’è nessuno più grande di colui chè teme Dio.
25 Free men will be at the service of a wise servant, and a man of understanding will not grumble.	25 A un servitore intelligente ubbidisce chi è libero e l’uomo che capisce non se ne vergogna.
26 Do not make a display of your wisdom when you do your work, nor glorify yourself at a time when you are in want.	26 Non affettare saggezza nel trattare le tue cose e nel bisogno non fare vanti.
27 Better is a man who works and has an abundance of everything, than one who goes about boasting, but lacks bread.	27 Meglio chi opera e abbonda di beni; non colui che si vanta e manca di pane.
28 My son, glorify yourself with humility, and ascribe to yourself honor according to your worth.	28 Figlio mio, onora la tua anima con la mansuetudine e dalle l’onore che merita.
29 Who will justify the man that sins against himself? And who will honor the man that dishonors his own life?	29 Chi può giustificare colui che pecca contro se stesso? chi può onorare colui che si disonora?
30 A poor man is honored for his knowledge, while a rich man is honored for his wealth.	30 C’è un povero che è onorato per la saggezza; c’è chi è onorato per le ricchezze:
31 A man honored in poverty, how much more in wealth! And a man dishonored in wealth, how much more in poverty!	31 ora è onorato ed è povero tanto più se ricco; è disprezzato nelle ricchezze, tanto più se povero.
