Proverbs 27

1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.	1 Non vantarti del domani, perché non sai neppure che cosa genera l’oggi.
2 Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.	2 Ti lodi un estraneo e non la tua bocca, uno sconosciuto e non le tue labbra.
3 stone is heavy, and sand is weighty, but a fool's provocation is heavier than both.	3 La pietra è greve, la sabbia è pesante, ma più d’entrambi la collera dello stolto.
4 Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming; but who can stand before jealousy?	4 L’ira è crudele, il furore è impetuoso, ma alla gelosia chi può resistere?
5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love.	5 Meglio un rimprovero aperto che un amore nascosto.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.	6 Leali sono le ferite di un amico, ingannevoli i baci di un nemico.
7 He who is sated loathes honey, but to one who is hungry everything bitter is sweet.	7 Lo stomaco sazio disprezza il miele, per lo stomaco affamato anche l’amaro è dolce.
8 Like a bird that strays from its nest, is a man who strays from his home.	8 Come un uccello che vola lontano dal nido, così è l’uomo che va errando lontano da casa.
9 Oil and perfume make the heart glad, but the soul is torn by trouble.	9 Profumo e incenso allietano il cuore e il consiglio dell’amico addolcisce l’animo.
10 Your friend, and your father's friend, do not forsake; and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away.	10 Non abbandonare il tuo amico né quello di tuo padre, non entrare nella casa di tuo fratello nel giorno della tua disgrazia. Meglio un amico vicino che un fratello lontano.
11 Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him who reproaches me.	11 Sii saggio, figlio mio, e allieterai il mio cuore; così avrò di che rispondere a colui che mi insulta.
12 A prudent man sees danger and hides himself; but the simple go on, and suffer for it.	12 L’accorto vede il pericolo e si nasconde, gli inesperti vanno avanti e la pagano.
13 Take a man's garment when he has given surety for a stranger, and hold him in pledge when he gives surety for foreigners.	13 Prendigli il vestito perché si è fatto garante per un estraneo, e tienilo in pegno per uno sconosciuto.
14 He who blesses his neighbor with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, will be counted as cursing.	14 Chi benedice il prossimo di buon mattino ad alta voce, sarà considerato come se lo maledicesse.
15 A continual dripping on a rainy day and a contentious woman are alike;	15 Lo stillicidio incessante in tempo di pioggia e una moglie litigiosa si rassomigliano:
16 to restrain her is to restrain the wind or to grasp oil in his right hand.	16 chi vuole trattenerla, trattiene il vento e raccoglie l’olio con la mano destra.
17 Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.	17 Il ferro si aguzza con il ferro e l’uomo aguzza l’ingegno del suo compagno.
18 He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who guards his master will be honored.	18 Chi custodisce un fico ne mangia i frutti, chi ha cura del suo padrone ne riceverà onori.
19 As in water face answers to face, so the mind of man reflects the man.	19 Come nell’acqua un volto riflette un volto, così il cuore dell’uomo si riflette nell’altro.
20 Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied, and never satisfied are the eyes of man.	20 Come il regno dei morti e l’abisso non si saziano mai, così non si saziano mai gli occhi dell’uomo.
21 The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and a man is judged by his praise.	21 Come il crogiuolo è per l’argento e il forno è per l’oro, così l’uomo rispetto alla bocca di chi lo loda.
22 Crush a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain, yet his folly will not depart from him.	22 Anche se tu pestassi lo stolto nel mortaio tra i grani con il pestello, non si allontanerebbe da lui la sua stoltezza.
23 Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds;	23 Preòccupati dello stato del tuo gregge, abbi cura delle tue mandrie,
24 for riches do not last for ever; and does a crown endure to all generations?	24 perché le ricchezze non sono eterne e una corona non dura per sempre.
25 When the grass is gone, and the new growth appears, and the herbage of the mountains is gathered,	25 Tolto il fieno, ricresce l’erba nuova e si raccolgono i foraggi sui monti;
26 the lambs will provide your clothing, and the goats the price of a field;	26 gli agnelli ti danno le vesti e i capretti il prezzo per comprare un campo,
27 there will be enough goats' milk for your food, for the food of your household and maintenance for your maidens.	27 le capre ti danno latte abbondante per nutrire te, per nutrire la tua famiglia e mantenere le tue domestiche.
