Psalms 106

1 Praise the LORD! O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures for ever!	1 Alléluia! Louez le Seigneur car il est bon, car sa faveur jamais ne se reprend!
2 Who can utter the mighty doings of the LORD, or show forth all his praise?	2 Qui redira les hauts faits du Seigneur et nous fera entendre toute sa louange?
3 Blessed are they who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times!	3 Heureux ceux qui se règlent sur ses lois, et dont les œuvres sont droites en tout temps!
4 Remember me, O LORD, when thou showest favor to thy people; help me when thou deliverest them;	4 Souviens-toi de moi, Seigneur, toi qui aimes ton peuple, que ta visite apporte ton salut!
5 that I may see the prosperity of thy chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thy heritage.	5 Fais-nous voir enfin tes élus heureux, que notre joie soit la joie de tout ton peuple, et notre orgueil celui de ta famille!
6 Both we and our fathers have sinned; we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.	6 Nous avons péché, nous et nos pères, nous sommes en faute et coupables.
7 Our fathers, when they were in Egypt, did not consider thy wonderful works; they did not remember the abundance of thy steadfast love, but rebelled against the Most High at the Red Sea.	7 Nos pères déjà, en Égypte, n’ont rien compris à tes miracles. Ils ont vite oublié tes grâces sans nombre, ils se sont révoltés à la Mer des Joncs.
8 Yet he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make known his mighty power.	8 Mais lui les a sauvés pour l’honneur de son nom, pour faire connaître au monde sa vaillance.
9 He rebuked the Red Sea, and it became dry; and he led them through the deep as through a desert.	9 Il menaça la Mer des Joncs: elle en resta sèche, et sur les fonds, ils marchèrent comme en un désert.
10 So he saved them from the hand of the foe, and delivered them from the power of the enemy.	10 Il ne les livra pas à leurs poursuivants, il les reprit de la main de l’ennemi.
11 And the waters covered their adversaries; not one of them was left.	11 Les eaux recouvrirent leurs adversaires, pas un seul n’en réchappa.
12 Then they believed his words; they sang his praise.	12 C’est alors qu’ils crurent à sa parole et qu’ils chantèrent sa louange.
13 But they soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel.	13 Mais bien vite ils oublièrent ses œuvres et cessèrent de compter sur sa prévoyance.
14 But they had a wanton craving in the wilderness, and put God to the test in the desert;	14 Leur convoitise se réveilla au désert, et dans la steppe ils mirent Dieu à l’épreuve.
15 he gave them what they asked, but sent a wasting disease among them.	15 Il leur donna ce qu’ils demandaient, il leur en envoya jusqu’à les dégoûter.
16 When men in the camp were jealous of Moses and Aaron, the holy one of the LORD,	16 On les vit dans leur camp, jaloux de Moïse et d’Aaron, l’homme consacré au Seigneur.
17 the earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.	17 La terre s’ouvrit alors pour engloutir Datan, elle se referma sur la bande d’Abiram.
18 Fire also broke out in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.	18 Un feu s’enflamma contre leur groupe, une flamme dévora ces méchants.
19 They made a calf in Horeb and worshiped a molten image.	19 Puis ils firent à l’Horeb un veau et se prosternèrent devant leur idole.
20 They exchanged the glory of God for the image of an ox that eats grass.	20 Ils échangèrent leur Gloire contre l’image d’un bœuf mangeur d’herbe,
21 They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt,	21 oubliant le Dieu qui les avait sauvés, celui qui fit de grandes choses en Égypte,
22 wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red Sea.	22 des miracles au pays de Kam, un prodige inouï à la Mer des Joncs!
23 Therefore he said he would destroy them-- had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to turn away his wrath from destroying them.	23 Déjà il parlait de les exterminer, mais Moïse, son élu, était là. Il se tint sur la brèche face à lui, pour empêcher que sa fureur ne les détruise.
24 Then they despised the pleasant land, having no faith in his promise.	24 Ils firent peu de cas d’une terre de délices, car ils ne croyaient pas à sa promesse.
25 They murmured in their tents, and did not obey the voice of the LORD.	25 Ils restaient à récriminer dans leurs tentes, au lieu d’entendre l’appel du Seigneur,
26 Therefore he raised his hand and swore to them that he would make them fall in the wilderness,	26 jusqu’à ce qu’il levât sa main. Il jura qu’il les ferait mourir au désert
27 and would disperse their descendants among the nations, scattering them over the lands.	27 et disperserait leur race parmi les païens, qu’il les sèmerait partout sur toutes les terres.
28 Then they attached themselves to the Baal of Peor, and ate sacrifices offered to the dead;	28 Ils se mirent à la traîne du Baal de Péor et mangèrent ce qu’on offre à des morts.
29 they provoked the LORD to anger with their doings, and a plague broke out among them.	29 Ils l’agacèrent si bien avec leurs pratiques, qu’un fléau éclata contre eux.
30 Then Phinehas stood up and interposed, and the plague was stayed.	30 Ce fut l’heure de Pinhas: il intervint et le fléau cessa.
31 And that has been reckoned to him as righteousness from generation to generation for ever.	31 Ce fut là son mérite, on le lui reconnut, d’âge en âge on le rappellera.
32 They angered him at the waters of Meribah, and it went ill with Moses on their account;	32 Ils l’irritèrent aux eaux de Mériba, Moïse y fut victime de leur faute
33 for they made his spirit bitter, and he spoke words that were rash.	33 quand ils aigrirent son esprit, et lui, parla comme il ne fallait pas.
34 They did not destroy the peoples, as the LORD commanded them,	34 Ils ne firent pas disparaître les païens, comme le Seigneur le leur demandait.
35 but they mingled with the nations and learned to do as they did.	35 Ils se mélangeaient avec les païens, ils apprenaient leurs façons de faire.
36 They served their idols, which became a snare to them.	36 Ils rendaient un culte à leurs pieux sacrés et ils se laissaient prendre,
37 They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons;	37 si bien qu’ils sacrifiaient leurs fils et leurs filles à des démons.
38 they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood.	38 Ils répandaient le sang innocent (le sang de leurs fils et de leurs filles sacrifiés aux idoles de Canaan) et laissaient la terre souillée de sang.
39 Thus they became unclean by their acts, and played the harlot in their doings.	39 Ils se souillaient en faisant de telles choses, ils se prostituaient avec de telles pratiques.
40 Then the anger of the LORD was kindled against his people, and he abhorred his heritage;	40 Et le Seigneur s’emporta contre son peuple, il prit les siens en horreur.
41 he gave them into the hand of the nations, so that those who hated them ruled over them.	41 Il les livra au pouvoir des nations et ceux qui les haïssaient les dominèrent.
42 Their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their power.	42 Leurs ennemis les opprimèrent, ils durent se courber sous le joug.
43 Many times he delivered them, but they were rebellious in their purposes, and were brought low through their iniquity.	43 Combien de fois ne les a-t-il pas délivrés! Mais eux rejetaient ses avis et s’enfonçaient dans leurs torts.
44 Nevertheless he regarded their distress, when he heard their cry.	44 Dès qu’il les voyait dans la détresse, dès qu’il entendait leurs cris,
45 He remembered for their sake his covenant, and relented according to the abundance of his steadfast love.	45 il se rappelait son alliance avec eux et se laissait fléchir par sa grande bonté.
46 He caused them to be pitied by all those who held them captive.	46 Alors il les faisait prendre en pitié par ceux qui les tenaient captifs.
47 Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to thy holy name and glory in thy praise.	47 - Ô Seigneur notre Dieu, sauve-nous, rassemble-nous de toutes les nations, que nous puissions célébrer ton saint Nom et que notre gloire soit de te louer.
48 Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! And let all the people say, "Amen!" Praise the LORD!	48 Béni soit le Seigneur, le Dieu d’Israël, depuis toujours et à jamais! Et le peuple entier dira: Amen!
