1 The LORD said to Moses,	1 Yahvé dit à Moïse:
2 "Consecrate to me all the first-born; whatever is the first to open the womb among the people of Israel, both of man and of beast, is mine."	2 “Consacre-moi tout premier-né. Tout premier-né qui ouvre le sein maternel en Israël, homme ou animal, est à moi.”
3 And Moses said to the people, "Remember this day, in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage, for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place; no leavened bread shall be eaten.	3 Moïse dit au peuple: “Vous célébrerez ce jour où vous êtes sortis d’Égypte, du pays de l’esclavage, lorsque Yahvé, vous a fait sortir d’ici en déployant sa force: en ce jour on ne mangera pas de pain levé.
4 This day you are to go forth, in the month of Abib.	4 Votre sortie a eu lieu un jour du mois d’Abib (le mois de l’Épi).
5 And when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, you shall keep this service in this month.	5 “Lorsque Yahvé t’aura fait entrer dans le pays des Cananéens, des Hittites, des Amorites, des Hivvites et des Jébusites - ce pays où coulent le lait et le miel - qu’il a juré à tes pères de te donner, tu célébreras ce rite au cours de ce même mois.
6 Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the LORD.	6 “Durant sept jours tu mangeras du pain sans levain et le septième jour tu célébreras une fête en l’honneur de Yahvé.
7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days; no leavened bread shall be seen with you, and no leaven shall be seen with you in all your territory.	7 Pendant sept jours on mangera du pain sans levain; on ne verra chez toi, dans tout le pays, ni pain levé, ni levain.
8 And you shall tell your son on that day, 'It is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.'	8 Et ce jour-là tu rediras ceci à ton fils: C’est à cause de ce que Yahvé a fait pour moi lorsque je suis sorti d’Égypte.
9 And it shall be to you as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the law of the LORD may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand the LORD has brought you out of Egypt.	9 “Ce sera pour toi comme un signe sur ta main, comme un rappel sur ton front, pour que la Loi de Yahvé soit toujours dans ta bouche; car Yahvé t’a fait sortir d’Égypte à la force du poignet.
10 You shall therefore keep this ordinance at its appointed time from year to year.	10 Chaque année, à la date fixée, tu observeras ce rite.
11 "And when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, as he swore to you and your fathers, and shall give it to you,	11 “Lorsque Yahvé t’aura fait entrer au pays des Cananéens, comme il l’a juré à toi et à tes pères, lorsqu’il te l’aura donné,
12 you shall set apart to the LORD all that first opens the womb. All the firstlings of your cattle that are males shall be the LORDs.	12 tu consacreras à Yahvé tout premier-né: tout premier-né de ton troupeau, si c’est un mâle, appartient à Yahvé.
13 Every firstling of an ass you shall redeem with a lamb, or if you will not redeem it you shall break its neck. Every first-born of man among your sons you shall redeem.	13 Tu rachèteras tout premier-né de l’âne avec un agneau; si tu ne le rachètes pas, tu lui briseras la nuque. Mais tous les premiers-nés de l’homme, tes fils, tu les rachèteras.
14 And when in time to come your son asks you, 'What does this mean?' you shall say to him, 'By strength of hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, from the house of bondage.	14 “Lorsque ton fils demain te posera cette question: Qu’est-ce que cela veut dire?, tu lui répondras: Yahvé nous a fait sortir d’Égypte, du pays de l’esclavage, à la force du poignet.
15 For when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD slew all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man and the first-born of cattle. Therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all the males that first open the womb; but all the first-born of my sons I redeem.'	15 Et comme le Pharaon refusait de nous laisser partir, Yahvé a tué tous les premiers-nés en Égypte, le premier-né de l’homme et le premier-né de l’animal. C’est pour cela que je consacre à Yahvé tout premier-né parmi les mâles et que je rachète le premier-né de mes fils.
16 It shall be as a mark on your hand or frontlets between your eyes; for by a strong hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt."	16 “Ce sera comme un signe sur ta main, un rappel devant tes yeux: tu te souviendras que Yahvé nous a fait sortir d’Égypte, en déployant sa force.”
17 When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, "Lest the people repent when they see war, and return to Egypt."	17 Lorsque le Pharaon laissa partir le peuple, Dieu ne le conduisit pas par la route du pays des Philistins; c’était pourtant la route directe. Mais Dieu se disait: “Quand il faudra combattre, le peuple pourrait bien se repentir et retourner en Égypte.”
18 But God led the people round by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the people of Israel went up out of the land of Egypt equipped for battle.	18 Dieu fit donc prendre au peuple la route plus longue du désert de la Mer des Roseaux; les Israélites montèrent en colonnes du pays d’Égypte.
19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him; for Joseph had solemnly sworn the people of Israel, saying, "God will visit you; then you must carry my bones with you from here."	19 Moïse emporta avec lui les ossements de Joseph, car celui-ci avait fait jurer les fils d’Israël, il leur avait dit: “Soyez sûrs que Dieu vous visitera: alors vous ramènerez avec vous mes ossements.”
20 And they moved on from Succoth, and encamped at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness.	20 Ils partirent donc de Soukkoth et campèrent à Étam, en bordure du désert.
21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night;	21 Yahvé marchait devant eux, dans une colonne de nuée le jour, pour les guider sur la route, et la nuit, dans une colonne de feu pour les éclairer. Ainsi ils pouvaient marcher de jour comme de nuit.
22 the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people.	22 La colonne de nuée ne s’éloignait pas du peuple durant le jour, ni la colonne de feu durant la nuit.
