Ezra 10

1 While Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, a very great assembly of men, women, and children, gathered to him out of Israel; for the people wept bitterly.	1 Mientras Esdras, bañado en llanto y postrado delante de la Casa de Dios, oraba y hacía esta confesión, una gran cantidad de israelitas –hombres, mujeres y niños– se congregaron a su alrededor, derramando abundantes lágrimas.
2 And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, of the sons of Elam, addressed Ezra: "We have broken faith with our God and have married foreign women from the peoples of the land, but even now there is hope for Israel in spite of this.	2 Entonces Secanías, hijo de Iejiel, de los hijos de Elam, dijo a Esdras: «Hemos traicionado a nuestro Dios, al casarnos con mujeres extranjeras de la gente del país. A pesar de esto, todavía queda una esperanza para Israel.
3 Therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all these wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.	3 Ahora hagamos una alianza con nuestro Dios, comprometiéndonos a echar a todas nuestras mujeres extranjeras y a los hijos nacidos de ellas, conforme a tu consejo y al de aquellos que respetan el mandamiento de nuestro Dios. ¡Qué se cumpla lo que ordena la Ley!
4 Arise, for it is your task, and we are with you; be strong and do it."	4 ¡Levántate, porque este asunto es de tu incumbencia, y nosotros estaremos contigo! ¡Anímate y manos a la obra!».
5 Then Ezra arose and made the leading priests and Levites and all Israel take oath that they would do as had been said. So they took the oath.	5 Esdras se levantó e hizo jurar a los jefes de los sacerdotes y de los levitas, y a todo Israel, que procederían como él lo había dicho. Y todos lo juraron.
6 Then Ezra withdrew from before the house of God, and went to the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib, where he spent the night, neither eating bread nor drinking water; for he was mourning over the faithlessness of the exiles.	6 Esdras se alejó de la Casa de Dios y se dirigió a la habitación de Iojanán, hijo de Eliasib, donde pasó la noche sin comer ni beber, porque estaba afligido a causa de la traición de los repatriados.
7 And a proclamation was made throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the returned exiles that they should assemble at Jerusalem,	7 Se lanzó entonces una proclama en Judá y en Jerusalén, para que todos los repatriados se reunieran en Jerusalén.
8 and that if any one did not come within three days, by order of the officials and the elders all his property should be forfeited, and he himself banned from the congregation of the exiles.	8 Al que no se presentara en el plazo de tres días, por decisión de los jefes y de los ancianos, se le confiscarían todos sus bienes y se lo excluiría de la asamblea de los que habían vuelto al exilio.
9 Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin assembled at Jerusalem within the three days; it was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month. And all the people sat in the open square before the house of God, trembling because of this matter and because of the heavy rain.	9 Todos los hombres de Judá y de Benjamín se reunieron en Jerusalén dentro de los tres días. Era el día veinte del noveno mes. Todo el pueblo se ubicó en la plaza de la Casa de Dios, lleno de temor por este asunto y también porque llovía a cántaros.
10 And Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, "You have trespassed and married foreign women, and so increased the guilt of Israel.	10 El sacerdote Esdras se levantó y les dijo: «Ustedes cometieron una traición, al casarse con mujeres extranjeras: así aumentaron la culpa de Israel.
11 Now then make confession to the LORD the God of your fathers, and do his will; separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and from the foreign wives."	11 Pero ahora, den gracias al Señor, el Dios de nuestros padres, y cumplan su voluntad, separándose de la gente del país y de las mujeres extranjeras».
12 Then all the assembly answered with a loud voice, "It is so; we must do as you have said.	12 Toda la asamblea respondió en alta voz: «Sí, haremos lo que tú nos digas,
13 But the people are many, and it is a time of heavy rain; we cannot stand in the open. Nor is this a work for one day or for two; for we have greatly transgressed in this matter.	13 pero el pueblo es muy numeroso y estamos en época de lluvias. No podemos permanecer a la intemperie, y además, esto no es cuestión de un día o dos, porque somos muchos los que hemos pecado en esto.
14 Let our officials stand for the whole assembly; let all in our cities who have taken foreign wives come at appointed times, and with them the elders and judges of every city, till the fierce wrath of our God over this matter be averted from us."	14 Sería mejor que nuestros jefes representen a toda la asamblea: todos los que, dentro de nuestras ciudades, se hayan casado con mujeres extranjeras, vendrán a presentarse en la fecha señalada, acompañados de los ancianos y de los jueces de cada ciudad, hasta que se haya alejado de nosotros la ira de nuestro Dios a causa de este asunto».
15 Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah opposed this, and Meshullum and Shabbethai the Levite supported them.	15 Solamente Jonatán, hijo de Azael, y Iajzías, hijo de Tigvá, se opusieron a esta manera de proceder, apoyados por Mesulán y el levita Sabtai.
16 Then the returned exiles did so. Ezra the priest selected men, heads of fathers' houses, according to their fathers' houses, each of them designated by name. On the first day of the tenth month they sat down to examine the matter;	16 Pero los repatriados hicieron como se había propuesto. El sacerdote Esdras eligió un jefe de familia por cada grupo, designándolos personalmente a cada uno. El primer día del décimo mes, comenzaron las sesiones para examinar las causas;
17 and by the first day of the first month they had come to the end of all the men who had married foreign women.	17 y hasta el primer día del primer mes, no quedaron resueltos los casos de todos los hombres que se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras.
18 Of the sons of the priests who had married foreign women were found Ma-aseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah, of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brethren.	18 Entre los miembros de las familias sacerdotales que se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras, estaban los siguientes: entre los hijos de Josué, hijo de Josadac, y entre sus hermanos: Maasías, Eliezer, Iarib y Guedalías.
19 They pledged themselves to put away their wives, and their guilt offering was a ram of the flock for their guilt.	19 Estos se comprometieron bajo juramento a echar a sus mujeres, y ofrecieron un carnero en sacrificio de reparación por su culpa.
20 Of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah.	20 Entre los hijos de Imer: Janahí y Zebadías;
21 Of the sons of Harim: Ma-aseiah, Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel, and Uzziah.	21 entre los hijos de Jarím: Maasías, Elías, Semaías, Iejiel y Uzías;
22 Of the sons of Pashhur: Eli-o-enai, Ma-aseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah.	22 entre los hijos de Pasjur: Elionai, Maasías, Ismael, Natanael, Iosabad y Elasá.
23 Of the Levites: Jozabad, Shime-i, Kelaiah (that is, Kelita), Petha-hiah, Judah, and Eliezer.	23 Entre los levitas: Iosabad, Simei, Quelaías –o Quelitá– Petaías, Iejudá y Eliezer.
24 Of the singers: Eliashib. Of the gatekeepers: Shallum, Telem, and Uri.	24 Entre los cantores: Eliasib y Zacur. Entre los porteros: Salúm, Telém y Urí.
25 And of Israel: of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, Izziah, Malchijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Hashabiah, and Benaiah.	25 Entre los israelitas: de los hijos de Parós: Ramías, Izías, Malquías, Miamím, Eleazar, Malquías y Benaías;
26 Of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremoth, and Elijah.	26 de los hijos de Elam: Matanías, Zacarías, Iejiel, Abdí, Ieremot y Elías;
27 Of the sons of Zattu: Eli-o-enai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad, and Aziza.	27 de los hijos de Zatú: Elionai, Eliasib, Matanías, Ieremot, Zabad y Azizá;
28 Of the sons of Bebai were Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.	28 de los hijos de Bebai: Iojanán, Jananías, Zabai y Atlai;
29 Of the sons of Bani were Meshullum, Malluch, Adaiah, Jashub, Sheal, and Jeremoth.	29 de los hijos de Baní: Mesulán, Maluc, Adaías, Iasub, Seal y Ieramot;
30 Of the sons of Pahath-moab: Adna, Chelal, Benaiah, Ma-aseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, Binnui, and Manasseh.	30 de los hijos de Pajat Moab: Adná, Quelal, Benaías, Maasías, Matanías, Besalel, Binuí y Manasés;
31 Of the sons of Harim: Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shime-on,	31 de los hijos de Jarím: Eliezer, Isías, Malquías, Semaías, Simeón,
32 Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah.	32 Benjamín, Maluc y Semarías;
33 Of the sons of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shime-i.	33 de los hijos de Jasúm: Matenai, Matatá, Zabad, Elifélet, Ieremai, Manasés y Simei;
34 Of the sons of Bani: Ma-adai, Amram, Uel,	34 de los hijos de Baní: Maadai, Amram, Uel,
35 Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi,	35 Benaías, Bedías, Quelui,
36 Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,	36 Vanías, Meremot, Eliasib,
37 Mattaniah, Mattenai, Jaasu.	37 Matanías, Matenai y Iasai;
38 Of the sons of Binnui: Shime-i,	38 de los hijos de Binuí: Simei,
39 Shelemiah, Nathan, Adaiah,	39 Selemías, Natán y Adaías;
40 Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai,	40 de los hijos de Sacai: Sasai, Sarai,
41 Azarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah,	41 Azarel, Selemías, Semarías,
42 Shallum, Amariah, and Joseph.	42 Salúm, Amarías y José;
43 Of the sons of Nebo: Je-iel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, Joel, and Benaiah.	43 de los hijos de Nebo: Jeiel, Matitías, Zabad, Zebiná, Iadai, Joel y Benaías.
44 All these had married foreign women, and they put them away with their children.	44 Todos estos se habían casado con extranjeras, y despidieron a sus mujeres y a sus hijos.
