1 Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that he would dwell in thick darkness.	1 Allora Salomone disse: "Il Signore ha deciso di abitare nella nube.
2 I have built thee an exalted house, a place for thee to dwell in for ever."	2 Ora io ti ho costruito una casa sublime, un luogo ove tu possa porre per sempre la dimora".
3 Then the king faced about, and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood.	3 Il re poi si voltò e benedisse tutta l'assemblea di Israele, mentre tutta l'assemblea di Israele stava in piedi
4 And he said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying,	4 e disse: "Benedetto il Signore Dio di Israele, che ha adempiuto con potenza quanto aveva predetto di sua bocca a Davide, mio padre:
5 'Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city in all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there, and I chose no man as prince over my people Israel;	5 Da quando feci uscire il mio popolo dal paese d'Egitto non mi sono scelto una città fra tutte le tribù di Israele perché mi si costruisse un tempio ove abitasse il mio nome e non mi sono scelto nessuno perché fosse guida del mio popolo Israele;
6 but I have chosen Jerusalem that my name may be there and I have chosen David to be over my people Israel.'	6 ora mi sono scelto Gerusalemme perché vi dimori il mio nome e mi sono scelto Davide perché governi il mio popolo Israele.
7 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.	7 Davide mio padre aveva deciso di costruire un tempio al nome del Signore, Dio di Israele,
8 But the LORD said to David my father, 'Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart;	8 ma il Signore disse a Davide mio padre: Hai deciso di costruire un tempio al mio nome; hai fatto bene a formulare tale progetto;
9 nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.'	9 solo che tu non costruirai il tempio, ma tuo figlio, generato da te, costruirà un tempio al mio nome.
10 Now the LORD has fulfilled his promise which he made; for I have risen in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and I have built the house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.	10 Il Signore ha attuato la sua parola; sono succeduto infatti a Davide mio padre e siedo sul trono di Israele, come aveva preannunziato il Signore e ho costruito il tempio al nome del Signore, Dio di Israele.
11 And there I have set the ark, in which is the covenant of the LORD which he made with the people of Israel."	11 Vi ho collocato l'arca dell'alleanza che il Signore aveva conclusa con gli Israeliti".
12 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands.	12 Egli si pose poi davanti all'altare del Signore, di fronte a tutta l'assemblea di Israele, e stese le mani.
13 Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the court; and he stood upon it. Then he knelt upon his knees in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven;	13 Salomone, infatti, aveva eretto una tribuna di bronzo e l'aveva collocata in mezzo al grande cortile; era lunga cinque cubiti, larga cinque e alta tre. Egli vi salì e si inginocchiò di fronte a tutta l'assemblea di Israele. Stese le mani verso il cielo e
14 and said, "O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven or on earth, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to thy servants who walk before thee with all their heart;	14 disse: "Signore, Dio di Israele, non c'è Dio simile a te in cielo e sulla terra. Tu mantieni l'alleanza e la misericordia verso i tuoi servi che camminano davanti a te con tutto il cuore.
15 who hast kept with thy servant David my father what thou didst declare to him; yea, thou didst speak with thy mouth, and with thy hand hast fulfilled it this day.	15 Tu hai mantenuto, nei riguardi del tuo servo Davide mio padre, quanto gli avevi promesso; quanto avevi pronunziato con la bocca l'hai adempiuto con potenza, come appare oggi.
16 Now therefore, O LORD, God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father what thou hast promised him, saying, 'There shall never fail you a man before me to sit upon the throne of Israel, if only your sons take heed to their way, to walk in my law as you have walked before me.'	16 Ora, Signore Dio di Israele, mantieni, nei riguardi del tuo servo Davide mio padre quanto gli hai promesso: Non ti mancherà mai un discendente, il quale stia davanti a me e sieda sul trono di Israele, purché i tuoi figli vigilino sulla loro condotta, secondo la mia legge, come hai fatto tu con me.
17 Now therefore, O LORD, God of Israel, let thy word be confirmed, which thou hast spoken to thy servant David.	17 Ora, Signore Dio di Israele, si adempia la parola che tu hai rivolta al tuo servo Davide!
18 "But will God dwell indeed with man on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!	18 Ma è proprio vero che Dio abita con gli uomini sulla terra? Ecco i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non possono contenerti, tanto meno questa casa che ti ho costruita!
19 Yet have regard to the prayer of thy servant and to his supplication, O LORD my God, hearkening to the cry and to the prayer which thy servant prays before thee;	19 Tuttavia volgiti alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla sua supplica, Signore mio Dio; ascolta il grido e la preghiera che il tuo servo innalza a te.
20 that thy eyes may be open day and night toward this house, the place where thou hast promised to set thy name, that thou mayest hearken to the prayer which thy servant offers toward this place.	20 Siano i tuoi occhi aperti verso questa casa, giorno e notte, verso il luogo dove hai promesso di porre il tuo nome, per ascoltare la preghiera che il tuo servo innalza in questo luogo.
21 And hearken thou to the supplications of thy servant and of thy people Israel, when they pray toward this place; yea, hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place; and when thou hearest, forgive.	21 Ascolta le suppliche del tuo servo e del tuo popolo Israele, quando pregheranno in questo luogo. Tu ascoltali dai cieli, dal luogo della tua dimora; ascolta e perdona!
22 "If a man sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath, and comes and swears his oath before thy altar in this house,	22 Se uno pecca contro il suo prossimo e, perché gli è imposta una maledizione, viene a giurare davanti al tuo altare in questo tempio,
23 then hear thou from heaven, and act, and judge thy servants, requiting the guilty by bringing his conduct upon his own head, and vindicating the righteous by rewarding him according to his righteousness.	23 tu ascoltalo dal cielo, intervieni e fa' giustizia fra i tuoi servi; condanna l'empio, facendogli ricadere sul capo la sua condotta, e dichiara giusto l'innocente, rendendogli quanto merita la sua innocenza.
24 "If thy people Israel are defeated before the enemy because they have sinned against thee, when they turn again and acknowledge thy name, and pray and make supplication to thee in this house,	24 Quando il tuo popolo Israele sarà sconfitto dal nemico perché ha peccato contro di te, se si convertirà e loderà il tuo nome, pregherà e supplicherà davanti a te, in questo tempio,
25 then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again to the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.	25 tu ascolta dal cielo, perdona il peccato del tuo popolo Israele e fallo tornare nel paese che hai concesso loro e ai loro padri.
26 "When heaven is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against thee, if they pray toward this place, and acknowledge thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them,	26 Quando si chiuderà il cielo e non ci sarà pioggia perché hanno peccato contro di te, se ti pregheranno in questo luogo, loderanno il tuo nome e si convertiranno dal loro peccato perché tu li avrai umiliati,
27 then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, thy people Israel, when thou dost teach them the good way in which they should walk; and grant rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people as an inheritance.	27 tu ascolta dal cielo e perdona il peccato dei tuoi servi e del tuo popolo Israele, ai quali indicherai la strada buona su cui camminare, e concedi la pioggia alla terra, che hai dato in eredità al tuo popolo.
28 "If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence or blight or mildew or locust or caterpillar; if their enemies besiege them in any of their cities; whatever plague, whatever sickness there is;	28 Quando nella regione ci sarà carestia o peste, carbonchio o ruggine, invasione di cavallette o di bruchi, quando il nemico assedierà il tuo popolo nella sua terra o nelle sue città, quando scoppierà un'epidemia o un flagello qualsiasi,
29 whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by any man or by all thy people Israel, each knowing his own affliction, and his own sorrow and stretching out his hands toward this house;	29 ogni preghiera e ogni supplica fatta da un individuo o da tutto il tuo popolo Israele, in seguito alla prova del castigo e del dolore, con le mani tese verso questo tempio,
30 then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render to each whose heart thou knowest, according to all his ways (for thou, thou only, knowest the hearts of the children of men);	30 tu ascoltala dal cielo, luogo della tua dimora e perdona, rendendo a ciascuno secondo la sua condotta, tu che conosci il cuore di ognuno, poiché solo tu conosci il cuore dei figli dell'uomo.
31 that they may fear thee and walk in thy ways all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest to our fathers.	31 Fa' sì che ti temano e camminino nelle tue vie per tutti i giorni della loro vita nel paese che hai dato ai nostri padri.
32 "Likewise when a foreigner, who is not of thy people Israel, comes from a far country for the sake of thy great name, and thy mighty hand, and thy outstretched arm, when he comes and prays toward this house,	32 Anche lo straniero, che non appartiene al tuo popolo Israele, se viene da un paese lontano a causa del tuo grande nome, della tua mano potente e del tuo braccio teso, a pregare in questo tempio,
33 hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to thee; in order that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name and fear thee, as do thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.	33 tu ascolta dal cielo, luogo della tua dimora, e soddisfa tutte le richieste dello straniero e tutti i popoli della terra conoscano il tuo nome, ti temano come il tuo popolo Israele e sappiano che il tuo nome è stato invocato su questo tempio, che io ho costruito.
34 "If thy people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatever way thou shalt send them, and they pray to thee toward this city which thou hast chosen and the house which I have built for thy name,	34 Quando il tuo popolo uscirà in guerra contro i suoi nemici, seguendo la via per la quale l'avrai indirizzato, se ti pregheranno rivolti verso questa città che ti sei scelta, e verso il tempio che ho costruito al tuo nome,
35 then hear thou from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.	35 ascolta dal cielo la loro preghiera e la loro supplica e rendi loro giustizia.
36 "If they sin against thee--for there is no man who does not sin--and thou art angry with them, and dost give them to an enemy, so that they are carried away captive to a land far or near;	36 Quando peccheranno contro di te - non c'è, infatti, nessuno senza peccato - e tu, adirato contro di loro, li consegnerai a un nemico e i loro conquistatori li deporteranno in un paese lontano o vicino,
37 yet if they lay it to heart in the land to which they have been carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to thee in the land of their captivity, saying, 'We have sinned, and have acted perversely and wickedly';	37 se, nel paese in cui saranno stati deportati, rientrando in se stessi, si convertiranno a te supplicandoti nel paese della loro prigionia dicendo: Abbiamo peccato, abbiamo agito da malvagi e da empi,
38 if they repent with all their mind and with all their heart in the land of their captivity, to which they were carried captive, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest to their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name,	38 se faranno ritorno a te con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima, nel paese della loro prigionia ove li avranno deportati e ti supplicheranno rivolti verso il paese che tu hai concesso ai loro padri, verso la città che ti sei scelta e verso il tempio che io ho costruito al tuo nome,
39 then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause and forgive thy people who have sinned against thee.	39 tu ascolta dal cielo, luogo della tua dimora, la loro preghiera e la loro supplica e rendi loro giustizia. Perdona al tuo popolo che ha peccato contro di te.
40 Now, O my God, let thy eyes be open and thy ears attentive to a prayer of this place.	40 Ora, mio Dio, i tuoi occhi siano aperti e le tue orecchie attente alla preghiera innalzata in questo luogo.
41 "And now arise, O LORD God, and go to thy resting place, thou and the ark of thy might. Let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in thy goodness.	41 Ora, alzati, Signore Dio, vieni al luogo del tuo riposo, tu e l'arca tua potente. Siano i tuoi sacerdoti, Signore Dio, rivestiti di salvezza e i tuoi fedeli esultino nel benessere.
42 O LORD God, do not turn away the face of thy anointed one! Remember thy steadfast love for David thy servant."	42 Signore Dio, non rigettare il tuo consacrato; ricordati i favori fatti a Davide tuo servo".
