1 Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned in safety to his house in Jerusalem.	1 Josaphat, roi de Juda, rentra chez lui sain et sauf, à Jérusalem.
2 But Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to King Jehoshaphat, "Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD? Because of this, wrath has gone out against you from the LORD.	2 Jéhu, fils de Hanani, le voyant, sortit alors à sa rencontre et dit au roi Josaphat: “Fallait-il porter secours aux méchants? Aimerais-tu par hasard ceux qui détestent Yahvé? Tu as sûrement attiré ainsi sa colère.
3 Nevertheless some good is found in you, for you destroyed the Asherahs out of the land, and have set your heart to seek God."	3 Néanmoins il y a ceci de bon chez toi: tu as supprimé les pieux sacrés du pays et tu t’es appliqué à rechercher Dieu de tout ton cœur.”
4 Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem; and he went out again among the people, from Beer-sheba to the hill country of Ephraim, and brought them back to the LORD, the God of their fathers.	4 Après un séjour à Jérusalem, Josaphat repartit visiter son peuple depuis Bersabée jusqu’à la montagne d’Éphraïm, pour le ramener à Yahvé, le Dieu de ses pères.
5 He appointed judges in the land in all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city,	5 Il établit des juges dans le pays, dans chacune des villes fortifiées de Juda.
6 and said to the judges, "Consider what you do, for you judge not for man but for the LORD; he is with you in giving judgment.	6 Il dit aux juges: “Faites attention à ce que vous faites! Vous ne rendez pas justice pour des hommes, mais pour Yahvé: il est avec vous quand vous prononcez la sentence.
7 Now then, let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed what you do, for there is no perversion of justice with the LORD our God, or partiality, or taking bribes."	7 Ayez donc la crainte de Yahvé, faites bien attention à ce que vous faites, car en Yahvé notre Dieu il n’y a ni injustice ni partialité, il n’accepte pas les pots-de-vin.”
8 Moreover in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat appointed certain Levites and priests and heads of families of Israel, to give judgment for the LORD and to decide disputed cases. They had their seat at Jerusalem.	8 Josaphat établit aussi à Jérusalem des lévites, des prêtres et des chefs de familles d’Israël pour ce qui concernait les droits de Yahvé et pour juger les procès des habitants de Jérusalem.
9 And he charged them: "Thus you shall do in the fear of the LORD, in faithfulness, and with your whole heart:	9 Il leur donna les ordres suivants: “Voici comment vous agirez: dans la crainte de Yahvé, avec sincérité et droiture.
10 whenever a case comes to you from your brethren who live in their cities, concerning bloodshed, law or commandment, statutes or ordinances, then you shall instruct them, that they may not incur guilt before the LORD and wrath may not come upon you and your brethren. Thus you shall do, and you will not incur guilt.	10 Vous instruirez vos frères qui habitent dans les villes à l’occasion de tous les procès qu’ils porteront devant vous, qu’il s’agisse de crimes de sang ou de la Loi, que ce soit pour les commandements, les ordonnances ou les règles. Ainsi ils se garderont d’être coupables envers Yahvé; autrement il s’emporterait contre vous ou contre vos frères. Si vous faites ainsi vous ne serez pas coupables.
11 And behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the governor of the house of Judah, in all the king's matters; and the Levites will serve you as officers. Deal courageously, and may the LORD be with the upright!"	11 Amarya, le chef des prêtres, aura autorité sur vous pour toute affaire qui regarde Yahvé, et Zébadya, fils d’Ismaël, chef de la maison de Juda, pour toutes les affaires qui regardent le roi. Les lévites vous serviront de scribes. Soyez courageux, travaillez! Yahvé sera avec les hommes droits!”
