1 In the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Ahab became king over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned twelve years.	1 Im achtzehnten Jahr Joschafats, des Königs von Juda, wurde Joram, der Sohn Ahabs, in Samaria König von Israel. Er regierte zwölf Jahre
2 He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, though not like his father and mother, for he put away the pillar of Baal which his father had made.	2 und tat, was dem Herrn missfiel. Doch trieb er es nicht so schlimm wie sein Vater und seine Mutter; denn er entfernte das Steinmal des Baal, das sein Vater errichtet hatte.
3 Nevertheless he clung to the sin of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin; he did not depart from it.	3 Nur an der Sünde, zu der Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, Israel verführt hatte, hielt er fest und ließ nicht von ihr ab.
4 Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder; and he had to deliver annually to the king of Israel a hundred thousand lambs, and the wool of a hundred thousand rams.	4 Mescha, der König von Moab, betrieb Schafzucht und musste dem König von Israel hunderttausend Lämmer und die Wolle von hunderttausend Widdern liefern.

7 And he went and sent word to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, "The king of Moab has rebelled against me; will you go with me to battle against Moab?" And he said, "I will go; I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses."	7 Auch ließ er Joschafat, dem König von Juda, sagen: Der König von Moab ist von mir abgefallen. 8 Then he said, "By which way shall we march?" Jehoram answered, "By the way of the wilderness of Edom."	8 Dann fragte Joram: Auf welchem Weg sollen wir hinaufziehen? Joschafat entschied: Durch die Wüste von Edom.
9 So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom. And when they had made a circuitous march of seven days, there was no water for the army or for the beasts which followed them.	9 Der König von Israel, der König von Juda und der König von Edom rückten nun aus. Als sie bereits einen Weg von sieben Tagen zurückgelegt hatten, fehlte es dem Heer und dem Vieh, das sie mitführten, an Wasser.
10 Then the king of Israel said, "Alas! The LORD has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab."	10 Der König von Israel sagte: Weh uns, der Herr hat diese drei Könige hierher gerufen, um sie in die Gewalt der Moabiter zu geben.
11 And Jehoshaphat said, "Is there no prophet of the LORD here, through whom we may inquire of the LORD?" Then one of the king of Israel's servants answered, "Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah."	11 Joschafat aber fragte: Ist hier kein Prophet des Herrn, durch den wir den Herrn befragen könnten? Einer von den Dienern des Königs von Israel antwortete: Hier ist Elischa, der Sohn Schafats, der Elija Wasser über die Hände gegossen hat.
12 And Jehoshaphat said, "The word of the LORD is with him." So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.	12 Joschafat sagte: Bei ihm ist das Wort des Herrn. Da ging der König von Israel mit Joschafat und dem König von Edom zu ihm hinab.
13 And Elisha said to the king of Israel, "What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father and the prophets of your mother." But the king of Israel said to him, "No; it is the LORD who has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab."	13 Doch Elischa sagte zum König von Israel: Was habe ich mit dir zu schaffen? Geh zu den Propheten deines Vaters und zu den Propheten deiner Mutter! Der König von Israel entgegnete: Darum geht es jetzt nicht. Der Herr hat diese drei Könige hierher gerufen, um sie in die Gewalt der Moabiter zu geben.
14 And Elisha said, "As the LORD of hosts lives, whom I serve, were it not that I have regard for Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would neither look at you, nor see you.	14 Elischa antwortete: So wahr der Herr der Heere lebt, in dessen Dienst ich stehe: Wenn ich nicht auf Joschafat, den König von Juda, Rücksicht nähme, dich würde ich nicht beachten und keines Blickes würdigen.
15 But now bring me a minstrel." And when the minstrel played, the power of the LORD came upon him.	15 Aber nun holt mir einen Harfenspieler! Als der Spieler über die Saiten fuhr, kam die Hand des Herrn über Elischa
16 And he said, "Thus says the LORD, 'I will make this dry stream-bed full of pools.'	16 und er rief: So spricht der Herr: Macht in diesem Tal Grube neben Grube!
17 For thus says the LORD, 'You shall not see wind or rain, but that stream-bed shall be filled with water, so that you shall drink, you, your cattle, and your beasts.'	17 Denn so spricht der Herr: Ihr werdet weder Wind noch Regen sehen. Doch dieses Tal wird sich mit Wasser füllen und ihr werdet trinken, wie auch eure Herden und euer Vieh.
18 This is a light thing in the sight of the LORD; he will also give the Moabites into your hand,	18 Aber das ist dem Herrn noch zu wenig. Er wird die Moabiter in eure Gewalt geben.
19 and you shall conquer every fortified city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop up all springs of water, and ruin every good piece of land with stones."	19 Ihr werdet alle Festungen und ihre besten Städte erobern, alle wertvollen Bäume fällen, alle Wasserquellen zuschütten und alle guten Äcker mit Steinen verderben.
20 The next morning, about the time of offering the sacrifice, behold, water came from the direction of Edom, till the country was filled with water.	20 Und wirklich, am nächsten Morgen, zur Zeit, da man das Speiseopfer darzubringen pflegt, kam Wasser von Edom her und die ganze Gegend wurde vom Wasser überflutet.
21 When all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, all who were able to put on armor, from the youngest to the oldest, were called out, and were drawn up at the frontier.	21 Als ganz Moab erfuhr, dass die Könige zum Krieg gegen das Land anrückten, wurden alle aufgeboten, die Waffen tragen konnten; sie stellten sich an der Grenze auf.
22 And when they rose early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, the Moabites saw the water opposite them as red as blood.	22 Frühmorgens aber, als die Sonne über dem Wasser aufging, erschien ihnen das Wasser drüben rot wie Blut.
23 And they said, "This is blood; the kings have surely fought together, and slain one another. Now then, Moab, to the spoil!"	23 Sie sagten: Das ist Blut. Die Könige haben sich selbst umgebracht; einer hat den andern erschlagen. Auf jetzt, zur Beute, ihr Moabiter!
24 But when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose and attacked the Moabites, till they fled before them; and they went forward, slaughtering the Moabites as they went.	24 Doch als sie sich dem Lager der Israeliten näherten, erhoben sich diese und schlugen die Moabiter in die Flucht. Unaufhörlich drängten die Israeliten nach und machten sie nieder.
25 And they overthrew the cities, and on every good piece of land every man threw a stone, until it was covered; they stopped every spring of water, and felled all the good trees; till only its stones were left in Kir-hareseth, and the slingers surrounded and conquered it.	25 Sie zerstörten die Städte und auf alle guten Äcker warf jeder seinen Stein, bis sie ganz bedeckt waren. Auch schütteten sie alle Wasserquellen zu und fällten alle wertvollen Bäume. Zuletzt blieb nur noch Kir-Heres übrig; diese Stadt umstellten und beschossen die Schleuderer.
26 When the king of Moab saw that the battle was going against him, he took with him seven hundred swordsmen to break through, opposite the king of Edom; but they could not.	26 Als der König von Moab sah, dass er dem Angriff nicht mehr standhalten konnte, sammelte er siebenhundert mit dem Schwert bewaffnete Männer um sich und versuchte beim König von Edom durchzubrechen. Doch es gelang ihnen nicht.
27 Then he took his eldest son who was to reign in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there came great wrath upon Israel; and they withdrew from him and returned to their own land.	27 Nun nahm er seinen erstgeborenen Sohn, der nach ihm König werden sollte, und brachte ihn auf der Mauer als Brandopfer dar. Da kam ein gewaltiger Zorn über Israel. Sie zogen von Moab ab und kehrten in ihr Land zurück.
