1 In the third year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel, Hezekiah the son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign.	1 Hóseának, Éla fiának, Izrael királyának harmadik esztendejében lett királlyá Hiszkija, Ácháznak, Júda királyának fia.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.	2 Huszonöt esztendős volt, amikor uralkodni kezdett s huszonkilenc esztendeig uralkodott Jeruzsálemben. Anyját, aki Zakariás lánya volt, Ábinak hívták.
3 And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done.	3 Azt cselekedte, ami igaz az Úr előtt, egészen úgy, ahogy atyja, Dávid cselekedett.
4 He removed the high places, and broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah. And he broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the people of Israel had burned incense to it; it was called Nehushtan.	4 Ő eltávolította a magaslatokat, összetörte az emlékoszlopokat, kivágta a berkeket s összezúzta a rézkígyót, amelyet Mózes csinált. Mindezen ideig ugyanis illatot gyújtottak annak Izrael fiai s Nehustánnak hívták.
5 He trusted in the LORD the God of Israel; so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him.	5 Az Úrban, Izrael Istenében bízott, úgyhogy nem is volt hozzá hasonló utána Júda összes királya között, sőt azok között sem, akik előtte voltak
6 For he held fast to the LORD; he did not depart from following him, but kept the commandments which the LORD commanded Moses.	6 és ragaszkodott az Úrhoz és nem távozott el nyomdokaitól s teljesítette parancsolatait, amelyeket az Úr Mózesnek parancsolt.
7 And the LORD was with him; wherever he went forth, he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria, and would not serve him.	7 Azért az Úr is vele volt s így bármihez fogott, sikere volt. El is pártolt Asszíria királyától s nem szolgált neki.
8 He smote the Philistines as far as Gaza and its territory, from watchtower to fortified city.	8 Ugyanő megverte a filiszteusokat egészen Gázáig s egész területüket, az őrtornyoktól kezdve a megerősített városokig.
9 In the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it	9 Hiszkija királynak negyedik esztendejében, amely Hóseának, Éla fiának, Izrael királyának hetedik esztendeje volt, felvonult Szalmanasszár, az asszírok királya Szamaria ellen és ostrom alá vette
10 and at the end of three years he took it. In the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.	10 és elfoglalta, – éspedig három esztendő múlva: Hiszkija hatodik esztendejében, azaz Hóseának, Izrael királyának kilencedik esztendejében esett el Szamaria. –
11 The king of Assyria carried the Israelites away to Assyria, and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,	11 Akkor az asszírok királya elhurcolta Izraelt Asszíriába és Hálában és a Hábornál, Gózán folyója mellett, a médek városaiban telepítette le őket,
12 because they did not obey the voice of the LORD their God but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded; they neither listened nor obeyed.	12 azért, mert nem hallgattak az Úrnak, Istenüknek szavára, hanem megszegték szövetségét: semmit, amit Mózes, az Úr szolgája parancsolt, meg nem hallgattak s meg nem cselekedtek.
13 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.	13 Hiszkija király tizennegyedik esztendejében pedig felvonult Szanherib, az asszírok királya Júda valamennyi megerősített városa ellen s bevette őket.
14 And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, "I have done wrong; withdraw from me; whatever you impose on me I will bear." And the king of Assyria required of Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.	14 Ekkor Hiszkija, Júda királya követeket küldött az asszírok királyához Lákisba ezzel az üzenettel: »Vétkeztem, vonulj vissza tőlem s mindazt, amit rám rósz, viselem.« Erre Asszíria királya háromszáz talentum ezüstöt és harminc talentum aranyat vetett ki Hiszkijára, Júda királyára,
15 And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasuries of the king's house.	15 mire Hiszkija odaadott minden ezüstöt, ami csak az Úr házában és a király kincsei közt akadt.
16 At that time Hezekiah stripped the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the doorposts which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid and gave it to the king of Assyria.	16 Ebben az időben törette le Hiszkija az Úr templomának ajtóit és azokat az aranylemezeket, amelyeket ő maga tétetett fel, hogy odaadhassa az asszírok királyának.
17 And the king of Assyria sent the Tartan, the Rabsaris, and the Rabshakeh with a great army from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. When they arrived, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is on the highway to the Fuller's Field.	17 Ám az asszírok királya elküldte Tartánt, Rábszáriszt és Rábsakét Lákisból erős haddal Hiszkija királyhoz Jeruzsálembe. Azok fel is vonultak s eljutottak Jeruzsálembe s felálltak a felső tó vízvezetéke mellett, amely a Kalló-mezőre vivő úton van
18 And when they called for the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the secretary, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder.	18 és hivatták a királyt. Kiment erre hozzájuk Eljakim, Helkija fia, az udvarnagy és Sebna, az íródeák és Jóah, Ászáf fia, a jegyző.
19 And the Rabshakeh said to them, "Say to Hezekiah, 'Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: On what do you rest this confidence of yours?	19 Azt mondta ekkor nekik Rábsaké: »Mondjátok meg Hiszkijának: Ezt üzeni a nagykirály, az asszírok királya: Micsoda bizodalom az, amelyre támaszkodsz?
20 Do you think that mere words are strategy and power for war? On whom do you now rely, that you have rebelled against me?	20 Talán bizony az a szándékod, hogy harcra készülsz? Kiben bizakodsz, hogy lázadozni mersz?
21 Behold, you are relying now on Egypt, that broken reed of a staff, which will pierce the hand of any man who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who rely on him.	21 Törött nádszálban – Egyiptomban – bizakodsz? Az, ha rátámaszkodik az ember, összetörik s bemegy a kezébe s átlyukasztja! Ilyen a fáraó, Egyiptom királya mindazok számára, akik benne bíznak!
22 But if you say to me, "We rely on the LORD our God," is it not he whose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, "You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem"?	22 Ha pedig azt mondjátok nekem: ‘Az Úrban, a mi Istenünkben bízunk’, – akkor azt kérdezem: Nem ő-e az, akinek magaslatait s oltárait lerontotta Hiszkija és azt parancsolta Júdának és Jeruzsálemnek: Ez előtt a jeruzsálemi oltár előtt imádkozzatok?
23 Come now, make a wager with my master the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders upon them.	23 Nos hát, gyertek uramhoz, az asszírok királyához, s én kétezer lovat adok nektek s lássuk, tudtok-e lovasokat szerezni rájuk?
24 How then can you repulse a single captain among the least of my master's servants, when you rely on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?	24 Hogy tudnátok tehát ellenállni uram legkisebb szolgái közül egyetlenegy helytartónak is? Avagy a harci szekerek s a lovasok miatt bizakodsz Egyiptomban?
25 Moreover, is it without the LORD that I have come up against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.'"	25 Hát az Úr akarata nélkül vonultam-e fel én erre a helyre, hogy elpusztítsam? Bizony, maga az Úr mondta nekem: ‘Eredj fel azon föld ellen s pusztítsd el!’«
26 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, said to the Rabshakeh, "Pray, speak to your servants in the Aramaic language, for we understand it; do not speak to us in the language of Judah within the hearing of the people who are on the wall."	26 Azt mondták erre Eljakim, Helkija fia és Sebna meg Jóah Rábsakénak: »Kérünk, beszélj szolgáiddal szírül, mert értjük azt a nyelvet s ne beszélj velünk zsidóul a nép hallatára, amely a várfalon van.«
27 But the Rabshakeh said to them, "Has my master sent me to speak these words to your master and to you, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are doomed with you to eat their own dung and to drink their own urine?"	27 Így felelt erre nekik Rábsaké: »Vajon uradhoz és hozzád küldött-e engem az én uram, hogy elmondjam e szavakat s nem inkább azokhoz az emberekhez-e, akik a várfalon ülnek – hogy megegyék saját ürüléküket s megigyák saját vizeletüket veletek együtt?«
28 Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out in a loud voice in the language of Judah: "Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria!	28 Odaállt tehát Rábsaké s fennhangon zsidóul kiáltva ezt mondta: »Halljátok a nagykirály, az asszírok királyának szavait:
29 Thus says the king: 'Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you out of my hand.	29 Ezt üzeni a király: Meg ne csaljon titeket Hiszkija, mert ő nem bír megszabadítani titeket kezemből.
30 Do not let Hezekiah make you to rely on the LORD by saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.'	30 Az Úrral se biztasson titeket, s ne mondja: Az Úr bizonyosan meg fog szabadítani minket s nem kerül e város az asszírok királyának kezébe.
31 Do not listen to Hezekiah; for thus says the king of Assyria: 'Make your peace with me and come out to me; then every one of you will eat of his own vine, and every one of his own fig tree, and every one of you will drink the water of his own cistern;	31 Ne hallgassatok Hiszkijára, mert ezt üzeni nektek Asszíria királya: Cselekedjétek velem, ami javatokra szolgál s jöjjetek ki hozzám: s akkor mindenki ehet szőlőjéből s fügefájáról s ihattok vizet vermeitekből,
32 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and honey, that you may live, and not die. And do not listen to Hezekiah when he misleads you by saying, The LORD will deliver us.	32 amíg el nem jövök s el nem viszlek titeket arra a földre, amely hasonló földetekhez, gabona- és bortermő földre, kenyér és szőlő földjére, olajfák, olaj és méz földjére s életben maradtok s nem fogtok meghalni. Ne hallgassatok Hiszkijára, aki rászed titeket, s azt mondja: ‘Az Úr majd megszabadít minket.’
33 Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?	33 Vajon megszabadították-e a nemzetek istenei földjüket az asszírok királyának kezéből?
34 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?	34 Hol van Hamat és Arfád istene, hol van Szefárvaim, Ána és Áva istene? Vajon megszabadították-e Szamariát a kezemből?
35 Who among all the gods of the countries have delivered their countries out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?"	35 Kik azok a föld valamennyi istenei közül, akik megszabadították földjüket kezemtől? Hogy tudná az Úr megszabadítani Jeruzsálemet kezemtől?«
36 But the people were silent and answered him not a word, for the king's command was, "Do not answer him."	36 A nép azonban hallgatott és semmit sem felelt neki, mert azt a parancsot kapták a királytól, hogy ne feleljenek neki.
37 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of the Rabshakeh.	37 Elment erre Eljakim, Helkija fia, az udvarnagy és Sebna, az íródeák, meg Jóah, Ászáf fia, a jegyző Hiszkijához megszaggatott ruhával és jelentették neki Rábsaké szavait.
