1 After the death of Ahab, Moab rebelled against Israel.	1 Dopo la morte di Acab, Moab si ribellò contro Israele.
2 Now Ahaziah fell through the lattice in his upper chamber in Samaria, and lay sick; so he sent messengers, telling them, "Go, inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover from this sickness."	2 Ocozia poi cadde dal parapetto della sua camera alta in Samaria, e, restan­done malato, mandò dei messi con questi ordini: « Andate a consultare Beelzebub di Accaron, se io possa riavermi da questa mia malattia ».
3 But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, "Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, 'Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?'	3 Ma l'angelo del Signore parlò ad Elia Tesbite e gli disse: « Levati e sali incontro ai messi del re di Samaria, e di' loro: Non v'è forse un Dio in Israele, che voi andate a consultare Beelzebub dio di Accaron?
4 Now therefore thus says the LORD, 'You shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone, but you shall surely die.'" So Elijah went.	4 Per questo, così dice il Signore: Tu non scenderai dal letto in cui sei salito, e morrai certamente ». Ed Elia se ne andò.
5 The messengers returned to the king, and he said to them, "Why have you returned?"	5 I messi tornarono da Ocozia, il quale disse loro: « Perchè siete tornati? ».
6 And they said to him, "There came a man to meet us, and said to us, 'Go back to the king who sent you, and say to him, Thus says the LORD, Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone, but shall surely die.'"	6 Ed essi risposero: « C'è venuto incontro un uomo il quale ci ha detto: Andate, tornate dal re che vi ha mandati, e ditegli: Ecco ciò che dice il Signore: Forse perchè non v'è un Dio in Israele, tu mandi a consultare Beelzebub dio di Accaron? Per questo non discenderai dal letto sul quale sei salito, ma certamente morrai ».
7 He said to them, "What kind of man was he who came to meet you and told you these things?"	7 Ed egli disse loro: « Qual aspetto e quali vesti aveva l'uomo che vi è venuto incontro a dirvi queste parole? »
8 They answered him, "He wore a garment of haircloth, with a girdle of leather about his loins." And he said, "It is Elijah the Tishbite."	8 Essì dissero: « Un uomo peloso, con una cintura di cuoio ai fianchi ». Il re disse: « E' Elia Tesbite ».
9 Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty men with his fifty. He went up to Elijah, who was sitting on the top of a hill, and said to him, "O man of God, the king says, 'Come down.'"	9 E mandò a lui un capo di cinquanta coi suoi cinquanta uomini. Questi salito verso Elia, che stava allora a sedere sulla cima del monte, gli disse: « Uomo di Dio, il re ti ordina di scendere ».
10 But Elijah answered the captain of fifty, "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty." Then fire came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.	10 Elia per tutta risposta, disse al capo dei cinquanta uomini: « Se io son uomo di Dio, scenda il fuoco dal cielo, e divori te e i tuoi cinquanta uomini ». E il fuoco scese dal cielo e divorò lui e i suoi cinquanta uomini.
11 Again the king sent to him another captain of fifty men with his fifty. And he went up and said to him, "O man of God, this is the king's order, 'Come down quickly!'"	11 Il re gli mandò ancora un altro capo di cinquanta con i suoi cinquanta uomini. Questi disse ad Elia: « Uomo di Dio, il re dice così: Fa presto a scendere ».
12 But Elijah answered them, "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty." Then the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.	12 Elia rispose dicendo: « Se io sono uomo di Dio, scenda il fuoco dal cielo e divori te e i tuoi cinquanta uomini ». Scese adunque il fuoco dal cielo e lo divorò coi suoi cinquanta.
13 Again the king sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and entreated him, "O man of God, I pray you, let my life, and the life of these fifty servants of yours, be precious in your sight.	13 Il re mandò ancora un terzo capo di cinquanta coi suoi cinquanta uomini. Questi, appena arrivato, s'inginocchiò dinanzi ad Elia e gli disse supplicandolo: « Uomo di Dio, non disprezzare la mia vita e quella dei tuoi servi che son con me.
14 Lo, fire came down from heaven, and consumed the two former captains of fifty men with their fifties; but now let my life be precious in your sight."	14 Ecco è disceso il fuoco dal cielo ed ha divorati i primi due capi di cinquanta con i loro cinquanta uomini; ma ora, te ne scongiuro, abbi pietà della mia vita ».
15 Then the angel of the LORD said to Elijah, "Go down with him; do not be afraid of him." So he arose and went down with him to the king,	15 Allora l'angelo del Signore parlò ad Elia e disse: « Scendi con lui: non temere ». Elia si mosse e discese con lui dal re,
16 and said to him, "Thus says the LORD, 'Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron,--is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word?--therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone, but you shall surely die.'"	16 e gli disse: «Così dice il Signore: Perchè tu hai mandati dei messi a consultare Beelzebub dio di Accaron, come se non vi fosse un Dio in Israele, da poter consultare, per questo non scenderai dal letto sopra il quale sei salito, ma di certo morrai ».
17 So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. Jehoram, his brother, became king in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, because Ahaziah had no son.	17 E Ocozia morì, secondo la parola del Signore detta da Elia, e regnò in suo luogo Ioram suo fratello, l'anno secondo di Ioram figlio di Giosafat re di Giuda, perchè Ocozia non aveva figli.
18 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?	18 Il resto degli atti di Ocozia e quello che fece, non son tutte queste cose scritte nel libro delle cronache dei re d'Israele?
