1 Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.	1 E Acab nunciò a Iezabel tutto quello che Elia avea fatto, e come tutti i profeti avea morti di coltello.
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "So may the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow."	2 E Iezabel mandò dicendo per uno messaggio ad Elia: questo mi facciano gli dii, e questo aggiungano, se domane a quest' ora non farò all' anima tua quello è stato fatto all' anima d' uno di loro.
3 Then he was afraid, and he arose and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.	3 Ed Elia temè, e andavasene là dovunque la volontà lo portava; e vènnesene in Bersabee di Giuda, e lasciò ivi il suo fante.
4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree; and he asked that he might die, saying, "It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am no better than my fathers."	4 E andossene nel deserto, per ispazio d' uno die; ed essendo venuto, sedendo sotto uno ginevro, domandò all' anima sua di morire; e disse: Signore, e' mi basta, togli l'anima mia; non sono io migliore che i padri miei.
5 And he lay down and slept under a broom tree; and behold, an angel touched him, and said to him, "Arise and eat."	5 E gittossi in terra, e addormentossi all' ombra del ginevro; ed ecco l'angelo di Dio il toccò, e disse: istà su, e mangia (e bei).
6 And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank, and lay down again.	6 E guardandosi al capo, vidde uno pane fatto sotto la cenere, e uno vaso d'acqua; e mangiò e bevè, e anco si raddormentò.
7 And the angel of the LORD came again a second time, and touched him, and said, "Arise and eat, else the journey will be too great for you."	7 E ritornò l'angelo di Dio la seconda volta, e toccollo e disse: istà su, e mangia (e bevi), per ciò che tu hai a fare grande via.
8 And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God.	8 Il quale, levandosi, mangiò e bevè, e andò in fortezza di quello cibo XL dì e XL notti, insino al monte di Dio Oreb.
9 And there he came to a cave, and lodged there; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"	9 E venuto ivi, stette in una spelonca: ed ecco la parola di Dio a lui, e dissegli: che fai tu quiritta, Elia?
10 He said, "I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the people of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thy altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away."	10 Ed egli rispose e disse: io hoe zelato di zelo per lo Signore Iddio degli eserciti, però che hanno rotto il patto del Signore i figliuoli d' Israel; i tuoi altari hanno guasto, i tuoi profeti hanno morti, e sono rimaso io solo, e vanno cercando l'anima mia per torla via.
11 And he said, "Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD." And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake;	11 E disse (l'angelo di Dio) a lui: esci fuori, e istà nel monte dinanzi a Dio; ed ecco che il Signore passerà, e uno spirito grande e forte, il quale sì convertirà i monti, e romperà le pietre dinanzi al Signore; e non è nello spirito il Signore, e dopo lo spirito commozione; e non è nella commozione il Signore;
12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.	12 e dopo la commozione fuoco; e non è nel fuoco il Signore; e dopo il fuoco il sibilo d'uno vento sottile.
13 And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him, and said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"	13 La quale cosa udita, Elia coperse il volto suo col mantello, e uscendo istette nell' uscio della spelonca; ed ecco a lui una voce, e disse: che fai tu qui Elia?
14 He said, "I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the people of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thy altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away."	14 E quegli respuose: ho zelato di zelo per il Signore Iddio degli eserciti, però che i figliuoli d'Israel hanno rotto il suo patto; egli hanno disfatto il tuo altare, e hanno morti i tuoi profeti di coltello; e sono lasciato io solo, e cercano dell' anima mia per torla via.
15 And the LORD said to him, "Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive, you shall anoint Hazael to be king over Syria;	15 E il Signore disse a lui: va, e ritorna per la tua via per il deserto in Damasco; e tornato che tu sarai là, ugnerai Azael re sopra Siria.
16 and Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint to be king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint to be prophet in your place.	16 E leu figliuolo di Namsi ugnerai re sopra Israel; Eliseo figliuolo di Safat, il quale è di Abelmeula, ugnerai profeta per te.
17 And him who escapes from the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay; and him who escapes from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.	17 E sarà, chiunque fuggirà il coltello di Azael, ucciderallo Ieu; e chiunque fuggirà il coltello di Ieu, ucciderallo Eliseo.
18 Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him."	18 E lascerò per me in Israel sette milia uomini, le ginocchia de' quali non s'inchinarono a Baal, e ogni bocca che non l'avrà adorato basciando la mano.
19 So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast his mantle upon him.	19 E partendosi indi, [Elia] trovò Eliseo figliuolo di Safat, che arava in XII iugi di buoi; ed egli era uno de' dodici aratori. E venuto Elia a lui, distese il suo mantello sopra di lui.
20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, "Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you." And he said to him, "Go back again; for what have I done to you?"	20 Il quale incontanente, lasciati i buoi, corse dopo Elia, e disse: io ti priego ch' io basci il mio padre e la mia madre, e seguiterò te. Ed egli disse: va e ritorna, però che quella cosa ch' era mia, fatta a te.
21 And he returned from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah, and ministered to him.	21 E partissi da lui, e tolse uno paio di buoi, e uccisegli, e con l' aratro de' buoi cosse la carne e diedela al popolo, e mangiarono; e levandosi, si partì e seguitò Elia, e ministrava a lui.
