1 And behold, a man of God came out of Judah by the word of the LORD to Bethel. Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.	1 Ekkor íme, az Úr parancsára Bételbe jött az Isten egyik embere, amikor Jeroboám éppen az oltáron állt és tömjénezett,
2 And the man cried against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, "O altar, altar, thus says the LORD: 'Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name; and he shall sacrifice upon you the priests of the high places who burn incense upon you, and men's bones shall be burned upon you.'"	2 s kiáltott az oltár ellen az Úr parancsára, s azt mondta: »Oltár, oltár, ezt üzeni az Úr: íme, születni fog Dávid házából egy fiú, akinek Jozija lesz a neve, s az fel fogja áldozni rajtad a magaslatok papjait, akik most tömjént gyújtanak rajtad, s embercsontokat fog égetni rajtad.«
3 And he gave a sign the same day, saying, "This is the sign that the LORD has spoken: 'Behold, the altar shall be torn down, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.'"	3 Jelt is adott nekik azon a napon, így szólva: »Ez lesz a jele annak, hogy az Úr szólt: Íme, meghasad az oltár, s kiömlik a rajta levő hamu.«
4 And when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar at Bethel, Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, "Lay hold of him." And his hand, which he stretched out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back to himself.	4 Amikor a király meghallotta az Isten emberének beszédét, amelyet a bételi oltár ellen kiáltott, kinyújtotta kezét az oltárról és azt mondta: »Fogjátok meg őt!« Erre elszáradt keze, amelyet ellene kinyújtott – úgyhogy nem tudta visszahúzni magához
5 The altar also was torn down, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.	5 és meghasadt az oltár és kiömlött a hamu az oltárról, azon jel szerint, amelyet az Isten embere az Úr parancsára megjövendölt.
6 And the king said to the man of God, "Entreat now the favor of the LORD your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me." And the man of God entreated the LORD; and the king's hand was restored to him, and became as it was before.	6 Azt mondta ekkor a király az Isten emberének: »Könyörögj az Úrhoz, a te Istenedhez, s imádkozz értem, hogy helyreálljon kezem.« Imádkozott erre az Isten embere az Úrhoz, s a király keze visszatért hozzá, s olyan lett, mint azelőtt volt.
7 And the king said to the man of God, "Come home with me, and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward."	7 Szólt ekkor a király az Isten emberéhez: »Gyere haza velem, s egyél, s megajándékozlak téged.«
8 And the man of God said to the king, "If you give me half your house, I will not go in with you. And I will not eat bread or drink water in this place;	8 Az Isten embere erre azt felelte a királynak: »Ha házad felét adod is nekem, akkor sem megyek el veled, s nem eszem kenyeret, s nem iszom vizet ezen a helyen:
9 for so was it commanded me by the word of the LORD, saying, 'You shall neither eat bread, nor drink water, nor return by the way that you came.'"	9 mert így hagyta meg nekem az Úr szava, aki azt parancsolta: ‘Ne egyél kenyeret, s ne igyál vizet, s ne azon az úton térj vissza, amelyiken jöttél.’«
10 So he went another way, and did not return by the way that he came to Bethel.	10 Más úton ment el tehát, s nem azon az úton tért vissza, amelyiken Bételbe ment.
11 Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel. And his sons came and told him all that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; the words also which he had spoken to the king, they told to their father.	11 Lakott azonban Bételben egy öreg próféta. Ehhez elmentek fiai, s elbeszélték neki mindazokat a cselekedeteket, amelyiket az Isten embere azon a napon Bételben művelt, s elbeszélték apjuknak a szavakat, amelyeket a királynak mondott.
12 And their father said to them, "Which way did he go?" And his sons showed him the way which the man of God who came from Judah had gone.	12 Azt mondta ekkor nekik apjuk: »Melyik úton ment el?« Megmutatták neki fiai az utat, amelyen elment Istennek az az embere, aki Júdából jött.
13 And he said to his sons, "Saddle the ass for me." So they saddled the ass for him and he mounted it.	13 Azt mondta erre fiainak: »Nyergeljétek meg nekem a szamarat.« Miután azok megnyergelték, ráült,
14 And he went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak; and he said to him, "Are you the man of God who came from Judah?" And he said, "I am."	14 s elment az Isten embere után. Meg is találta, amint éppen a terebintfa alatt üldögélt és azt mondta neki: »Te vagy-e Istennek az az embere, aki Júdából jöttél?« Az azt felelte: »Én.«
15 Then he said to him, "Come home with me and eat bread."	15 Azt mondta erre neki: »Gyere velem haza, s egyél kenyeret.«
16 And he said, "I may not return with you, or go in with you; neither will I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place;	16 Az ezt mondta: »Nem térhetek vissza, s nem mehetek el veled, s nem eszem kenyeret, s nem iszom vizet ezen a helyen,
17 for it was said to me by the word of the LORD, 'You shall neither eat bread nor drink water there, nor return by the way that you came.'"	17 mert meghagyta nekem az Úr az ő szavával: ‘Ne egyél kenyeret, s ne igyál vizet ott, s ne azon az úton térj vissza, amelyiken oda mégy.’«
18 And he said to him, "I also am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, 'Bring him back with you into your house that he may eat bread and drink water.'" But he lied to him.	18 Ő azt mondta neki: »Magam is próféta vagyok, éppen úgy, mint te, s egy angyal az Úr parancsából meghagyta nekem, s azt mondta: ‘Vidd vissza őt magaddal házadba, hogy egyen kenyeret és igyon vizet.’« Rászedte őt,
19 So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house, and drank water.	19 s visszavitte magával: evett tehát kenyeret és ivott vizet házában.
20 And as they sat at the table, the word of the LORD came to the prophet who had brought him back;	20 Miközben azonban az asztalnál ültek, az Úr szózatot intézett ahhoz a prófétához, aki őt visszavitte.
21 and he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, "Thus says the LORD, 'Because you have disobeyed the word of the LORD, and have not kept the commandment which the LORD your God commanded you,	21 Erre ő rákiáltott Istennek arra az emberére, aki Júdából jött: »Ezt üzeni az Úr: Mivel nem engedelmeskedtél az Úr szájának, s nem tartottad meg azt a parancsot, amelyet az Úr, a te Istened neked meghagyott,
22 but have come back, and have eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which he said to you, "Eat no bread, and drink no water"; your body shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.'"	22 s visszatértél, s ettél kenyeret és ittál vizet azon a helyen, amely felől megparancsoltam neked, hogy ott ne egyél kenyeret, s ne igyál vizet: nem kerül tetemed atyáid sírjába.«
23 And after he had eaten bread and drunk, he saddled the ass for the prophet whom he had brought back.	23 Amikor aztán evett és ivott, megnyergeltette szamarát a próféta számára, akit visszahozott.
24 And as he went away a lion met him on the road and killed him. And his body was thrown in the road, and the ass stood beside it; the lion also stood beside the body.	24 Miután az elment, az úton rátalált egy oroszlán, s megölte; teste ott hevert az úton, s mellette állt a szamár, s a holttest mellett állt az oroszlán is.
25 And behold, men passed by, and saw the body thrown in the road, and the lion standing by the body. And they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.	25 Éppen akkor emberek mentek arrafelé, s meglátták az úton heverő holttestet s a holttest mellett álló oroszlánt és elmentek, s elbeszélték a városban, amelyben az az öreg próféta lakott.
26 And when the prophet who had brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, "It is the man of God, who disobeyed the word of the LORD; therefore the LORD has given him to the lion, which has torn him and slain him, according to the word which the LORD spoke to him."	26 Amikor meghallotta ezt az a próféta, aki visszatérítette őt az útról, így szólt: »Istennek az az embere az, aki nem engedelmeskedett az Úr szájának: az Úr kiszolgáltatta az oroszlánnak, s az összetörte, s megölte az Úrnak azon szava szerint, amelyet hozzá intézett.«
27 And he said to his sons, "Saddle the ass for me." And they saddled it.	27 Majd azt mondta fiainak: »Nyergeljétek meg nekem a szamarat.« Miután azok megnyergelték,
28 And he went and found his body thrown in the road, and the ass and the lion standing beside the body. The lion had not eaten the body or torn the ass.	28 ő elment, s megtalálta az úton heverő holttestet s a holttest mellett álló szamarat és oroszlánt; az oroszlán nem evett a holttestből, s nem bántotta a szamarat sem.
29 And the prophet took up the body of the man of God and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back to the city, to mourn and to bury him.	29 Erre a próféta felvette Isten emberének holttestét, feltette a szamárra és visszatért, s bevitte az öreg próféta városába, hogy elsirassa.
30 And he laid the body in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, "Alas, my brother!"	30 Le is tette holttestét a saját sírjába és elsiratták: »Jaj, jaj, testvérem!«
31 And after he had buried him, he said to his sons, "When I die, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.	31 Amikor aztán elsiratták, azt mondta fiainak: »Ha majd meghalok, temessetek abba a sírba, amelybe az Isten emberét temették; az ő csontjai mellé tegyétek csontjaimat,
32 For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass."	32 mert bizonnyal be fog következni az a dolog, amelyet az Úr parancsára a bételi oltár ellen s a Szamaria városaiban levő valamennyi magaslati templom ellen jövendölt.«
33 After this thing Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way, but made priests for the high places again from among all the people; any who would, he consecrated to be priests of the high places.	33 Jeroboám azonban ezen dolgok után sem fordult vissza nagyon gonosz útjáról, sőt ellenkezőleg, papokat rendelt a magaslatokra a köznépből: aki csak akarta, felavattatta kezét, s a magaslatok papjává lett.
34 And this thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, so as to cut it off and to destroy it from the face of the earth.	34 Ez lett az oka annak, hogy Jeroboám háza vétket vont magára, s összedűlt és elpusztult a föld színéről.
