1 Now when the king dwelt in his house, and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies round about,	1 Le roi s’était installé dans sa maison, et Yahvé l’avait débarrassé de tous ses ennemis à la ronde.
2 the king said to Nathan the prophet, "See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent."	2 Alors il dit au prophète Nathan: “J’habite dans une maison de cèdre et l’Arche de Dieu est encore sous la tente: qu’en dis-tu?”
3 And Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your heart; for the LORD is with you."	3 Nathan répondit au roi: “Fais tout ce qui te paraît bon, car Yahvé est avec toi.”
4 But that same night the word of the LORD came to Nathan,	4 Mais cette nuit-là la parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Nathan:
5 "Go and tell my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD: Would you build me a house to dwell in?	5 “Tu diras à mon serviteur David: Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Est-ce toi qui me construiras une maison pour que j’y habite?
6 I have not dwelt in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent for my dwelling.	6 Depuis le jour où j’ai fait sortir les Israélites d’Égypte jusqu’à aujourd’hui, je n’ai pas eu de maison pour habiter, mais j’étais avec eux et je n’avais qu’une tente comme demeure.
7 In all places where I have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?"'	7 De tout le temps que j’ai fait route au milieu des Israélites, je n’ai jamais dit à l’un des juges d’Israël, à ceux que j’avais faits pasteurs de mon peuple Israël: Pourquoi ne me construisez-vous pas une maison de cèdre?
8 Now therefore thus you shall say to my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel;	8 “Tu vas donc transmettre à mon serviteur David cette parole de Yahvé Sabaot: Je suis allé te chercher au pâturage derrière les brebis, et j’ai fait de toi le chef de mon peuple Israël.
9 and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth.	9 Partout où tu allais j’étais avec toi, j’ai éliminé devant toi tous tes ennemis. Je rendrai grand ton nom, autant que celui des plus grands de la terre,
10 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be disturbed no more; and violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly,	10 et je mettrai à sa place mon peuple Israël. Là je le planterai et il y restera. Il ne sera plus ballotté; les méchants ne continueront plus de l’opprimer comme autrefois,
11 from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel; and I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover the LORD declares to you that the LORD will make you a house.	11 lorsque j’établissais des juges sur mon peuple Israël: je le débarrasserai de tous ses ennemis. Et voici ce que Yahvé te fait dire: Moi je vais te construire une maison.
12 When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come forth from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.	12 “Lorsque tes jours seront achevés et que tu te coucheras avec tes pères, j’élèverai après toi ton descendant, celui qui sort de tes entrailles et j’affermirai sa royauté.
13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.	13 Lui me construira une maison, et moi, j’affermirai son trône royal pour toujours.
14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. When he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men;	14 Je serai pour lui un père et il sera pour moi un fils; s’il fait le mal je le corrigerai comme font les hommes, je le frapperai de façon humaine.
15 but I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you.	15 Mais je ne me détournerai pas de lui comme je me suis détourné de Saül, comme je l’ai rejeté de devant moi.
16 And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure for ever before me; your throne shall be established for ever.'"	16 Ta maison et ta royauté dureront à jamais devant moi, ton trône sera ferme à jamais.”
17 In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David.	17 Nathan vint donc parler à David, il lui rapporta toutes ces paroles et cette vision.
18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and said, "Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far?	18 Alors le roi David alla s’asseoir devant Yahvé: “Qui suis-je Seigneur Yahvé? Qu’est-ce que ma famille pour que tu m’aies conduit jusque là?
19 And yet this was a small thing in thy eyes, O Lord GOD; thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast shown me future generations, O Lord GOD!	19 Mais cela te paraissait encore trop peu, Seigneur Yahvé, puisque aujourd’hui tu étends tes promesses à la famille de ton serviteur pour un lointain avenir: est-ce là une destinée normale pour un homme, Seigneur Yahvé?
20 And what more can David say to thee? For thou knowest thy servant, O Lord GOD!	20 “Que pourrait ajouter ton serviteur David? Tu le connais, Seigneur Yahvé.
21 Because of thy promise, and according to thy own heart, thou hast wrought all this greatness, to make thy servant know it.	21 Tu as réalisé librement ces grandes choses pour honorer tes promesses, et tu viens les communiquer à ton serviteur.
22 Therefore thou art great, O LORD God; for there is none like thee, and there is no God besides thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.	22 Oui, vraiment, tu es grand, Seigneur Yahvé: nul n’est comme toi; selon tout ce que nous avons entendu de nos propres oreilles, il n’y a pas d’autre Dieu que toi.
23 What other nation on earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his people, making himself a name, and doing for them great and terrible things, by driving out before his people a nation and its gods?	23 Et qui est comme ton peuple Israël? Y a-t-il une autre nation sur la terre qu’un Dieu soit allé racheter pour en faire son peuple, et pour lui faire un nom, pour faire en sa faveur de grandes et terribles choses, pour chasser devant ce peuple des nations avec leurs dieux?
24 And thou didst establish for thyself thy people Israel to be thy people for ever; and thou, O LORD, didst become their God.	24 “Tu as établi ton peuple Israël pour qu’il soit à jamais ton peuple, et toi Yahvé, tu es devenu son Dieu.
25 And now, O LORD God, confirm for ever the word which thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house, and do as thou hast spoken;	25 Maintenant donc, Seigneur Yahvé, fais que soit toujours vraie la parole que tu viens de prononcer au sujet de ton serviteur et de sa famille, fais ce que tu as dit.
26 and thy name will be magnified for ever, saying, 'The LORD of hosts is God over Israel,' and the house of thy servant David will be established before thee.	26 Alors ton Nom sera glorifié à jamais, et l’on dira: Yahvé Sabaot est Dieu en Israël! “La maison de ton serviteur David restera ferme devant toi,
27 For thou, O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, hast made this revelation to thy servant, saying, 'I will build you a house'; therefore thy servant has found courage to pray this prayer to thee.	27 puisque c’est toi Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël, qui as fait cette révélation à ton serviteur: “Je te bâtirai une maison.” “C’est pour cela que ton serviteur a l’audace de t’adresser cette prière.
28 And now, O Lord GOD, thou art God, and thy words are true, and thou hast promised this good thing to thy servant;	28 Oui, Seigneur Yahvé, tu es vraiment Dieu, tes paroles sont vraies, et c’est toi qui promets à ton serviteur.
29 now therefore may it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee; for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken, and with thy blessing shall the house of thy servant be blessed for ever."	29 Bénis donc la maison de ton serviteur, qu’elle soit à jamais devant toi. C’est toi, Seigneur Yahvé, qui as parlé, et grâce à ta bénédiction la maison de ton serviteur sera bénie pour toujours.”
