Genesis 35

1 God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there; and make there an altar to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau."	1 Poi Dio disse a Giacobbe: «Levati, sali a Bethel e ivi abita; costruisci là un altare al Dio che ti è apparso quando ti allontanavi da Esaù tuo fratello»,
2 So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you, and purify yourselves, and change your garments;	2 Allora Giacobbe disse alla sua famiglia e a tutti: coloro che erano con lui: «Eliminate gli dèi stranieri che avete con voi, purificatevi e cambiate le vesti.
3 then let us arise and go up to Bethel, that I may make there an altar to the God who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone."	3 Poi leviamoci e saliamo a Bethel dove io voglio costruire un altare al Dio che mi ha esaudito nel tempo della mia angoscia e che è stato con me nel cammino che ho percorso».
4 So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods that they had, and the rings that were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was near Shechem.	4 Essi consegnarono a Giacobbe tutti gli dèi stranieri che possedevano e i pendenti che avevano agli orecchi e Giacobbe e sotterrò sotto la quercia che è presso Sichem.
5 And as they journeyed, a terror from God fell upon the cities that were round about them, so that they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.	5 Poi levarono l’accampamento e un terrore proveniente da Dio assalì le città che stavano attorno a loro, così che non inseguirono i figli di Giacobbe.
6 And Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him,	6 Così Giacobbe e tutta la gente che era con lui arrivarono a Luz, cioè Bethel, che è nella terra di Canaan.
7 and there he built an altar, and called the place El-bethel, because there God had revealed himself to him when he fled from his brother.	7 Ivi egli costruì un altare e chiamò quel luogo «Dio di Bethel», perché là Dio gli si era rivelato, quando egli si allontanava da suo fratello.
8 And Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried under an oak below Bethel; so the name of it was called Allon-bacuth.	8 Allora morì Debora, nutrice di Rebecca, e fu sepolta al disotto di Bethel, ai piedi della quercia che pertanto fu detta quercia del Pianto.
9 God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan-aram, and blessed him.	9 Dio apparve un’altra volta a Giacobbe quando veniva da Paddan-Aram e lo benedisse.
10 And God said to him, "Your name is Jacob; no longer shall your name be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name." So his name was called Israel.	10 Dio gli disse: «Il tuo nome è Giacobbe però non sarai chiamato più Giacobbe ma Israele sarà il tuo nome». Così fu chiamato Israele.
11 And God said to him, "I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall spring from you.	11 Dio gli disse: «Io sono El-Shaddai: sii fecondo e diventa numeroso; una nazione e un’accolta di popoli nascerà da te e re usciranno dai tuoi fianchi.
12 The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give the land to your descendants after you."	12 La terra che ho concesso ad Abramo e ad Isacco darò a te; alla discendenza dopo di te darò la terra».
13 Then God went up from him in the place where he had spoken with him.	13 Poi Dio si allontanò da lui, nel luogo dove gli aveva parlato.
14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he had spoken with him, a pillar of stone; and he poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it.	14 Allora Giacobbe eresse una stele nel luogo dove gli aveva parlato, una stele di pietra sulla quale fece una libazione e versò olio.
15 So Jacob called the name of the place where God had spoken with him, Bethel.	15 Giacobbe chiamò Bethel il luogo dove Dio gli aveva parlato.
16 Then they journeyed from Bethel; and when they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel travailed, and she had hard labor.	16 Poi levarono l’accampamento da Bethel e partirono. Quando mancava ancora un tratto di cammino per arrivare a Efrata, Rachele partorì ed ebbe un parto difficile.
17 And when she was in her hard labor, the midwife said to her, "Fear not; for now you will have another son."	17 Mentre soffriva per la difficoltà del parto, l’ostetrica le disse: «Non temere: anche questa volta hai un figlio!»
18 And as her soul was departing (for she died), she called his name Ben-oni; but his father called his name Benjamin.	18 Ora mentre le sfuggiva l’anima, perché stava morendo, essa lo chiamò «figlio del mio dolore», ma suo padre lo chiamò Beniamin.
19 So Rachel died, and she was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem),	19 Così morì Rachele e fu sepolta lungo la strada verso Efrata, cioè Betlemme.
20 and Jacob set up a pillar upon her grave; it is the pillar of Rachel's tomb, which is there to this day.	20 Giacobbe eresse sul sepolcro di lei una stele. È la stele della tomba di Rachele che esiste ancora oggi.
21 Israel journeyed on, and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Eder.	21 Poi Israele levò l’accampamento e rizzò la tenda al di là di Migdal-Eder.
22 While Israel dwelt in that land Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine; and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.	22 E avvenne che, mentre Israele abitava in quel paese, Ruben andò a giacere con Bilha, concubina di suo padre, e Israele lo venne a sapere. I figli di Giacobbe furono dodici.
23 The sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob's first-born), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.	23 I figli di Lia: il primogenito di Giacobbe, Ruben, poi Simeone, Levi, Giuda, Issachar e Zabulon.
24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.	24 I figli di Rachele: Giuseppe e Beniamin.
25 The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's maid: Dan and Naphtali.	25 I figli di Bilha schiava di Rachele: Dan e Neftali.
26 The sons of Zilpah, Leah's maid: Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan-aram.	26 I figli di Zilpa schiava di Lia: Gad e Asher. Questi sono i figli che nacquero a Giacobbe in Paddan-Aram.
27 And Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre, or Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had sojourned.	27 Poi Giacobbe venne da Isacco suo padre a Kiriat-Arba, cioè Hebron, dove Abramo e Isacco avevano soggiornato come forestieri.
28 Now the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years.	28 Isacco raggiunse l’età di centottant’anni.
29 And Isaac breathed his last; and he died and was gathered to his people, old and full of days; and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.	29 Poi Isacco spirò, morì e fu riunito ai suoi antenati, vecchio e sazio di giorni. Lo seppellirono Esaù e Giacobbe suoi figli.
