| 1 - Intanto il Signore aveva preparato un gran pesce, affinchè ingoiasse Giona, e Giona stette nel ventre del pesce tre dì e tre notti. | 1 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish, |
| 2 E dal ventre del pesce, Giona pregò il Signore. | 2 saying, "I called to the LORD, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and thou didst hear my voice. |
| 3 E disse: «Nella mia tribolazione ho invocato il Signore ed egli mi ha esaudito. Nel seno degli Inferi ho gridatoe tu hai udita la mia voce. | 3 For thou didst cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood was round about me; all thy waves and thy billows passed over me. |
| 4 Tu mi hai gettato nel profondo in mezzo al mare e le acque mi circondarono, e le tue onde e i tuoi flutti passarono tutti sopra di me. | 4 Then I said, 'I am cast out from thy presence; how shall I again look upon thy holy temple?' |
| 5 E dissi: - Sono stato rigettato lontano dalla presenza dei tuoi occhi, ma pure rivedrò di nuovo il tuo tempio santo. | 5 The waters closed in over me, the deep was round about me; weeds were wrapped about my head |
| 6 Le acque mi hanno circondato fino all'anima; l'abisso mi ha inghiottitoe il pelago ha coperto il mio capo. | 6 at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me for ever; yet thou didst bring up my life from the Pit, O LORD my God. |
| 7 Sono sceso alle radici dei monti; le sbarre della terra s'erano chiuse dietro di me per sempre; ma tu sottrarrai alla distruzione la mia vita, o Signore Dio mio. | 7 When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; and my prayer came to thee, into thy holy temple. |
| 8 Quando l'anima mia era nelle angoscemi sono ricordato del Signorefacendo giungere a te la mia preghiera, al tuo tempio santo. | 8 Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their true loyalty. |
| 9 Coloro che prestano culto alle vanità inutiliperdono la loro pietà. | 9 But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to thee; what I have vowed I will pay. Deliverance belongs to the LORD!" |
| 10 Ma io offrirò a te un sacrifizio con voce di lode, renderò tutti i voti fatti al Signore per la mia salvezza -». | 10 And the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land. |
| 11 E il Signore diede ordine al pesce, e vomitò Giona sulla terra ferma. | |
