1 Then David went away from there, and he fled to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all of his father’s house had heard of it, they descended to him there.	1 E David si parti, e fuggì in una spelonca detta Odollam. La quale cosa uditala, i suoi fratelli e tutta la casa del suo padre, andarono ivi a lui.
2 And all those left in distress, or oppressed by debt to strangers, or bitter in soul, gathered themselves to him. And he became their leader, and about four hundred men were with him.	2 E vennero a lui tutti quelli ch' erano posti in angustia, e d'animo amaro, e gravati d'altrui avere; e fu fatto loro principe. E furono con esso lui quasi quattrocento uomini.
3 And David set out from there to Mizpah, which is of Moab. And he said to the king of Moab, “I beg you, let my father and my mother remain with you, until I know what God will do for me.”	3 E andossene David in Masfa, la quale è di Moab; e disse al re di Moab: io prego, che il mio padre e la mia madre istea con esso voi, tanto ch' io sappia quello che Iddio vuole fare di me.
4 And he left them before the face of the king of Moab. And they stayed with him for all the days that David was in the stronghold.	4 E lasciolli nel cospetto del re di Moab; e stetteno con lui tutto il tempo che David istette in luogo securo.
5 And the prophet Gad said to David: “Do not choose to stay in the stronghold. Set out and go into the land of Judah.” And so, David set out, and he went into the forest of Hereth.	5 E Gad profeta disse a David: non istare qui, vattene nella terra di Giuda. E David si partì, e venne in uno luogo, chiamato bosco di Aret.
6 And Saul heard that David, and the men who were with him, had been seen. Now while Saul was staying in Gibeah, and while he was in the forest that is in Ramah, holding a spear in his hand, with all his servants standing around him,	6 E Saul intese che David era apparito, e quelli uomini ch' erano con esso lui. Ed essendo Saul nel bosco, il quale è in Gabaa in Rama, tenea la lancia in mano, e tutti i suoi compagni gli erano dintorno.
7 he said to his servants who were assisting him: “Listen now, you sons of Benjamin! Will the son of Jesse give to all of you fields and vineyards, and will he make all of you tribunes or centurions,	7 E disse a' servi suoi che gli erano dinanzi : intendete, figliuoli di Iemini; darà egli, il figliuolo di Isai, a tutti voi campi e vigne, e faravvi tribuni e centurioni,
8 so that you would all conspire against me, and so that there is no one to inform me, especially when even my son has formed a pact with the son of Jesse? There is no one among you who grieves for my situation, or who would report to me. For my son has raised up my servant against me, seeking to betray me, even to this day.”	8 che tutti avete congiurato contro a me, e non è chi mi renunzii? e specialmente perchè il mio figliuolo ha (confederato e) fatto patto col figliuolo d' Isai? Non è persona di voi, che si dolga di me, nè che annunzii alcuna cosa; però che il mio figliuolo hae suscitato a me inimico il mio servo, il quale m' agguata insino ad oggi.
9 Then Doeg, the Edomite, who was standing near, and who was first among the servants of Saul, responding, said: “I saw the son of Jesse, in Nob, with Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, the priest.	9 E Doeg Idumeo, il quale era dinanzi da lui, ed era il primo tra i servi di Saul, respuose e disse: io vidi il figliuolo d'Isai in Nobe con esso Achimelec, figliuolo di Achitob, sacerdote.
10 And he consulted the Lord for him, and he gave him food. Moreover, he gave him the sword of Goliath, the Philistine.”	10 Il quale domandò consiglio a Dio per lui, e diedegli cibi a mangiare, e anche gli diede il coltello di Goliat Filisteo.
11 Then the king sent to summon Ahimelech, the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all of his father’s house, the priests who were in Nob, and they all came before the king.	11 Onde Saul mandò richiedendo Achimelec figliuolo di Achitob sacerdote, e tutti quelli della casa del suo padre, li quali erano in Nobe; li quali tutti vennero al re.
12 And Saul said to Ahimelech, “Listen, son of Ahitub.” He responded, “Here I am, lord.”	12 E Saul disse ad Achimelec: intendi, figliuolo di Achitob. Il quale respuose: presto io sono (apparecchiato).
13 And Saul said to him: “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse? For you gave him bread and a sword, and you consulted the Lord for him, so that he might rise up against me, continuing as a traitor even to this day.”	13 E Saul disse a lui: perchè avete voi fatta congiurazione contra a me, tu e il figliuolo di Isai, e destigli il pane e il coltello, e dimandasti consiglio per lui a Dio, acciò che si levasse contro a me quello che sempre m'ha agguatato insino al dì d'oggi?
14 And responding to the king, Ahimelech said: “But who among all your servants is as faithful as David? And he is the son-in-law of the king, and he goes forth at your order, and he is a glory within your house.	14 E respuose Achimelec al re, e disse: chi è, tra tutti i tuoi servi, fedele come David, e genero del re, andando al tuo comandamento, e glorioso nella tua casa?
15 Did I begin to consult the Lord for him today? May this be far from me! Let not the king suspect this kind of thing against his servant, nor against anyone in all my father’s house. For your servant did not know anything about this matter, either small or great.”	15 Ho io incominciato a domandare oggi consiglio a Dio per lui? Iddio me ne guardi; non sia sospetto, inverso il servo tuo, di cotale cosa in tutta la casa del padre mio; il servo tuo non seppe alcuna cosa di questo fatto, nè piccola cosa nè grande.
16 And the king said, “You shall die a death, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house!”	16 E il re gli disse: tu sarai morto, Achimelec, tu e tutta la casa del tuo padre.
17 And the king said to the emissaries who were standing around him: “You shall turn, and put to death the priests of the Lord. For their hand is with David. They knew that he had fled, and they did not reveal it to me.” But the servants of the king were not willing to extend their hands against the priests of the Lord.	17 E disse il re a tutti i fanti che gli erano dintorno: volgetevi, e uccidete tutti gli sacerdoti di Dio; però che la mano loro è con David, sapiendo che fuggia, e non mi significarono. I servi del re non volsero estendere le mani nelli sacerdoti di Dio.
18 And the king said to Doeg, “You shall turn and rush against the priests.” And Doeg, the Edomite, turned and rushed against the priests. And he massacred, on that day, eighty-five men, vested with the linen ephod.	18 E il re disse a Doeg (Idumeo): volgiti, e uccidi i sacerdoti del (Signore) E volsesi Doeg Idumeo, e uccise quel dì ottantacinque uomini, sacerdoti di Dio, vestiti di vestimenta sacerdotali.
19 Then he struck Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the sword; he struck down men and women, little ones and infants, as well as ox and donkey and sheep, with the edge of the sword.	19 E Nobe, città sacerdotale, ferio di coltello; uomini e femine, piccoli (e grandi) e quelli che lattavano, buoi e asini e pecore uccise.
20 But one of the sons of Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, whose name was Abiathar, escaping, fled to David.	20 E camponne uno figliuolo di Achimelec, il quale avea nome Abiatar; questo fuggì a David.
21 And he reported to him that Saul had slain the priests of the Lord.	21 E annunziogli, come Saul avea morti i sacerdoti di Dio.
22 And David said to Abiathar: “I knew, on that day when Doeg, the Edomite was there, that without doubt he would report it to Saul. I am guilty of all the souls of your father’s house.	22 E David disse ad Abiatar: in quello dì seppi, che essendovi Doeg Idumeo, egli il significherebbe a Saul; io sono peccatore di tutte le anime del tuo padre.
23 You should remain with me. Do not be afraid. For he who seeks my life, seeks your life also, but with me you shall be saved.”	23 Istà con esso meco, e non temere: chè chi offenderà me, offenderà te; e con esso meco sarai conservato.
