1 There was a certain man from Ramah of Zophim, on Mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.	1 Il y avait un homme de Ramathaïm-Sophim, dans la montagne d'Ephraïm, qui s'appelait Elcana; il était fils de Jéroham, fils d'Eliu, fils de Thohu, fils de Suph, Ephraïmite.
2 And he had two wives: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the second was Peninnah. And Peninnah had sons. But Hannah did not have children.	2 Il avait deux femmes, dont l'une s'appelait Anne, et la seconde Phénenna. Phénenna avait des enfants et Anne n'en avait pas.
3 And this man went up from his city, on the established days, so that he might adore and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts at Shiloh. Now the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests of the Lord, were in that place.	3 Cet homme allait de sa ville à Silo aux jours ordonnés, pour adorer le Seigneur des armées, et pour Lui offrir des sacrifices. Les deux fils d'Héli, Ophni et Phinées, y faisaient la fonction de prêtres du Seigneur.
4 Then the day arrived, and Elkanah immolated. And he gave portions to his wife Peninnah, and to all her sons and daughters.	4 Un jour donc Elcana, ayant offert son sacrifice, donna à Phénenna sa femme, et à tous ses fils et à toutes ses filles leur part de la victime.
5 But to Hannah he gave one portion with sorrow. For he loved Hannah, but the Lord had closed her womb.	5 Il n'en donna qu'une à Anne, tout triste, parce qu'il l'aimait. Mais le Seigneur l'avait rendue stérile.
6 And her rival afflicted her and vehemently distressed her, to a great extent, for she rebuked her that the Lord had closed her womb.	6 Phénenna, qui avait de la jalousie contre elle, l'affligeait aussi et la tourmentait extrêmement, jusqu'à l'insulter de ce que le Seigneur l'avait rendue stérile.
7 And she did so every year, when the time returned for them to ascend to the temple of the Lord. And she provoked her in this way. And so, she wept and did not take food.	7 Elle la traitait ainsi tous les ans lorsque le temps était venu de monter au temple du Seigneur; et Anne se mettait à pleurer, et ne mangeait point.
8 Therefore, her husband Elkanah said to her: “Hannah, why are you weeping? And why do you not eat? And for what reason do you afflict your heart? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”	8 Elcana, son mari, lui dit donc: Anne, pourquoi pleurez-vous? Pourquoi ne mangez-vous pas et pourquoi votre coeur s'afflige-t-il? Ne suis-je pas pour vous plus que ne vous seraient dix enfants?
9 And so, after she ate and drank at Shiloh, Hannah rose up. And Eli, the priest, was sitting on the seat before the door of the temple of the Lord.	9 Après donc qu'Anne eut mangé et bu à Silo, elle se leva, et tandis que le grand prêtre Héli était assis sur son siège devant la porte du temple du Seigneur,
10 And since Hannah was bitter in soul, she prayed to the Lord, weeping greatly.	10 Anne, qui avait le coeur plein d'amertume, pria le Seigneur en répandant beaucoup de larmes,
11 And she made a vow, saying, “O Lord of hosts, if, in looking with favor, you will see the affliction of your servant and will remember me, and will not forget your handmaid, and if you will give to your servant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall pass over his head.”	11 et elle fit un voeu en ces termes: Seigneur des armées, si Vous daignez regarder l'affliction de Votre servante, si Vous Vous souvenez de moi, si Vous n'oubliez point Votre servante, et, si Vous donnez à Votre esclave un enfant mâle, je le donnerai à mon Seigneur pour tous les jours de sa vie, et le rasoir ne passera point sur sa tête.
12 Then it happened that, while she multiplied prayers before the Lord, Eli observed her mouth.	12 Comme Anne demeurait ainsi longtemps en prière devant le Seigneur, Héli jeta les yeux sur sa bouche.
13 For Hannah was speaking in her heart, and only her lips moved, and her voice was barely heard. Therefore, Eli considered her to be drunk,	13 Or Anne parlait dans son coeur, et l'on voyait seulement remuer ses lèvres, sans qu'on entendît aucune parole. Héli crut qu'elle avait bu avec excès;
14 and so he said to her: “How long will you be inebriated? You should take only a little wine, but instead you are drenched.”	14 et il lui dit: Jusqu'à quand serez-vous ivre? Laissez un peu reposer le vin qui vous trouble.
15 Responding, Hannah said: “By no means, my lord. For I am an exceedingly unhappy woman, and I drank neither wine, nor anything that can inebriate. Instead, I have poured out my soul in the sight of the Lord.	15 Anne lui répondit: Pardonnez-moi, mon seigneur, je suis une femme comblée d'affliction; je n'ai bu ni vin, ni rien qui puisse enivrer; mais j'ai répandu mon âme en la présence du Seigneur.
16 You should not repute your handmaid as one of the daughters of Belial. For I have been speaking from the abundance of my sorrow and grief, even until now.”	16 Ne croyez pas que votre servante soit comme l'une des filles de Bélial; car il n'y a que l'excès de ma douleur et de mon affliction qui m'ait fait parler jusqu'à cet instant.
17 Then Eli said to her: “Go in peace. And may the God of Israel grant to you your petition, which you have begged of him.”	17 Alors Héli lui dit: Allez en paix; et que le Dieu d'Israël vous accorde la demande que vous Lui avez faite.
18 And she said, “I wish that your handmaid may find grace in your eyes.” And the woman went on her way, and she ate, and her countenance was no longer changed for the worse.	18 Anne lui répondit: Plaise à Dieu que votre servante trouve grâce devant vos yeux! Elle s'en alla ensuite, elle mangea, et elle ne changea plus de visage comme auparavant.
19 And they rose up in the morning, and they worshipped before the Lord. And they returned and arrived at their own house at Ramah. Then Elkanah knew his wife Hannah. And the Lord remembered her.	19 S'étant ensuite levés dès le matin, ils adorèrent le Seigneur, s'en retournèrent et arrivèrent à leur maison à Ramatha. Or Elcana fut avec sa femme, et le Seigneur se souvint d'elle.
20 And it happened that, in the course of days, Hannah conceived and bore a son. And she called his name Samuel, because she had requested him from the Lord.	20 Quelque temps après elle conçut, et enfanta un fils, qu'elle appela Samuel, parce qu'elle l'avait demandé au Seigneur.
21 Now her husband Elkanah ascended with his entire house, so that he might immolate to the Lord a solemn sacrifice, with his vow.	21 Elcana son mari vint ensuite avec toute sa maison, pour immoler au Seigneur la victime accoutumée, et pour Lui rendre son voeu.
22 But Hannah did not go up. For she said to her husband, “I will not go, until the infant has been weaned, and until I may lead him, so that he may appear before the sight of the Lord, and may remain always there.”	22 Mais Anne n'y alla point, et elle dit à son mari: Je n'irai pas au sanctuaire jusqu'à ce que l'enfant soit sevré, et je le mènerai afin qu'il soit présenté au Seigneur, et qu'il demeure toujours devant Lui.
23 And her husband Elkanah said to her: “Do what seems good to you, and stay until you wean him. And I pray that the Lord may fulfill his word.” Therefore, the woman remained at home, and she breastfed her son, until she withdrew him from milk.	23 Elcana son mari lui dit: Faites ce qui vous semblera bon; et restez jusqu'à ce que vous ayez sevré l'enfant. Je prie le Seigneur d'accomplir Sa parole. Anne demeura donc, et elle nourrit son fils de son lait, jusqu'à ce qu'elle l'eut sevré.
24 And after she had weaned him, she brought him with her, along with three calves, and three measures of flour, and a small bottle of wine, and she led him to the house of the Lord at Shiloh. But the boy was still a young child.	24 Et lorsqu'elle l'eut sevré, elle prit avec elle trois veaux, trois boisseaux de farine, et un vase plein de vin, et elle amena son fils à Silo dans la maison du Seigneur. Or l'enfant était encore tout petit.
25 And they immolated a calf, and they presented the boy to Eli.	25 Ils le présentèrent à Héli, après avoir immolé un veau.
26 And Hannah said: “I beg you, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord: I am that woman, who stood before you here, praying to the Lord.	26 Et Anne lui dit: Je vous en prie, mon seigneur; aussi vrai que votre âme vit, je suis cette femme que vous avez vu ici prier le Seigneur.
27 I prayed for this child, and the Lord granted to me my petition, which I asked of him.	27 Je Le suppliais pour cet enfant, et le Seigneur m'a accordé la demande que je Lui ai faite.
28 Because of this, I have also lent him to the Lord, for all the days when he shall be lent to the Lord.” And they adored the Lord in that place. And Hannah prayed, and she said:	28 C'est pourquoi je le Lui prête pour tous les jours où il sera prêté au Seigneur. Ils adorèrent donc le Seigneur en ce lieu, et Anne pria en ces termes:
