1 But there was a man related to Elimelech, a powerful man, and very wealthy, named Boaz.	1 Noemi aveva un parente di suo marito, uomo eminente, della famiglia di Elimèlech, che si chiamava Booz.
2 And Ruth, the Moabite, said to her mother-in-law, “If you order, I will go into the field and gather the ears of grain which escape the reaping hand, wherever I will find favor with the father of a family, who will be compassionate to me.” She answered her, “Go, my daughter.”	2 Rut, la moabita, disse a Noemi: "Lascia che vada a spigolare nei campi, seguendo coloro presso cui troverò grazia ai loro occhi". Noemi le rispose: "Va', figlia mia".
3 And so she went and gathered the ears of grain after the completion of the reaping. But it happened that this field was owned by Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.	3 Essa andò ed entrò in un campo per spigolare dietro ai mietitori e le capitò per caso di trovarsi nel campo che apparteneva a Booz, della famiglia di Elimèlech.
4 And behold, he came out of Bethlehem and said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you.” They answered him, “May the Lord bless you.”	4 Ecco che Booz venne da Betlemme e disse ai mietitori: "Il Signore sia con voi"; essi risposero: "Ti benedica il Signore".
5 And Boaz said to the young man who was in charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman is this?”	5 Booz disse inoltre al servo preposto ai mietitori: "Di chi è quella ragazza?".
6 He answered him, “This is the Moabite woman, who came with Naomi, from the land of the Moabites,	6 Il servo preposto ai mietitori rispose: "E' una ragazza moabita, che è tornata con Noemi dai campi di Moab. Ella ha detto:
7 and she asked to gather the remnants of the ears of grain, following the steps of the reapers, and from morning until now she has remained in the field, and, indeed, not for one moment has she returned home.”	7 "Lasciami spigolare e raccogliere fra il grano, andando dietro ai mietitori"; è venuta ed è restata dal mattino fino ad ora, senza accordarsi nemmeno un piccolo riposo".
8 And Boaz said to Ruth, “Listen to me, daughter. Do not go to gather in any other field, nor depart from this place, but join with my young women,	8 Booz disse a Rut: "Ascolta, figlia mia: non andare a spigolare in altri campi, non allontanarti da qui e così starai insieme alle mie serve.
9 and follow where they reap. For I given orders to my young men, so that no one is to harass you. And so, whenever you are thirsty, go to the vessels, and drink from the waters that the young men also drink.”	9 Tieni d'occhio il campo che si miete e va' dietro ai mietitori. Non ho forse dato ordine ai servi di non infastidirti? Se hai sete, va' dove sono i vasi e bevi l'acqua attinta dai servi".
10 She, falling on her face and paying homage on the ground, said to him: “How did this happen to me, that I should find favor before your eyes, and that you would condescend to accept me, a foreign woman?”	10 Rut si prostrò e, chinata a terra, gli disse: "Come posso aver trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi al punto che tu mi prenda in considerazione, quando io sono una straniera?".
11 He answered her, “Everything has been reported to me, what things you have done for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband, and how you left your parents, and the land in which you were born, and came to a people you did not know before.	11 Booz rispose: "Mi è stato riferito tutto quello che hai fatto a tua suocera dopo la morte di tuo marito, che hai lasciato tuo padre e tua madre e la tua terra nativa e sei venuta presso un popolo che non avevi mai conosciuto.
12 May the Lord repay you for your work, and may you receive a full reward from the Lord, the God of Israel, to whom you have come, and under whose wings you have taken refuge.”	12 Ripaghi il Signore l'opera tua e sia piena la tua ricompensa da parte del Signore Dio d'Israele, sotto le cui ali sei venuta a rifugiarti".
13 She said, “I have found favor before your eyes, my lord, who has consoled me, and you have spoken to the heart of your handmaid, who is unlike one of your young women.”	13 Ella disse: "Possa io trovare grazia ai tuoi occhi, mio signore, poiché mi hai rassicurata e hai parlato al cuore della tua serva, mentre io non pretendo nemmeno di essere come una delle tue serve!".
14 And Boaz said to her, “When mealtime begins, come here, and eat bread, and dip your morsel in the vinegar.” And so she sat beside the reapers, and she piled up parched grain for herself, and she ate and was satisfied, and carried off the leftovers.	14 Al momento del pasto Booz le disse: "Avvicinati qui e mangia il pane, intingendo il tuo boccone nell'aceto". Essa sedette accanto ai mietitori ed egli le offrì spighe arrostite; Rut mangiò a sazietà e ne mise da parte.
15 And then she arose from there, so as to gather the ears of grain, according to the custom. But Boaz commanded his servants, saying, “If she is even willing to reap with you, do not prevent her,	15 Si alzò poi per spigolare e Booz dette quest'ordine ai suoi servi: "Lasciatela spigolare anche in mezzo ai covoni e non mortificatela;
16 and purposely let fall some from your bundles, and allow them to remain, so that she may gather without blushing, and let no one rebuke her gathering.”	16 anzi lasciate cadere per essa delle spighe dai manipoli e abbandonatele, affinché essa possa raccoglierle senza che voi la rimproveriate".
17 And so she gathered in the field until evening. And striking and threshing with a staff what she had gathered, she found about the measure of an ephah of barley, that is, three measures.	17 Rut spigolò nel campo fino a sera, poi batté quello che aveva spigolato e ne venne fuori quasi un'efa di orzo:
18 Carrying this, she returned into the city and showed it to her mother-in-law. Moreover, she offered it to her and even gave her the leftovers of her food, with which she had been satisfied.	18 lo prese e andò in città e mostrò alla suocera quello che aveva spigolato; tirò poi fuori quello che le era avanzato dopo essersi saziata e glielo dette.
19 And her mother-in-law said to her, “Where have you gathered today, and where have you found work? Blessed is he who took pity on you!” And she informed her with whom she had been working, and she said the man’s name, that he was called Boaz.	19 La suocera le domandò: "Dove hai spigolato oggi e dove hai lavorato? Sia benedetto chi ti ha preso in considerazione". Rut raccontò alla suocera presso chi aveva lavorato e disse: "Il nome dell'uomo, presso il quale ho lavorato oggi, è Booz".
20 Naomi answered her, “May he be blessed by the Lord, because the same kindness which he provided for the living, he also kept for the dead.” And again she said: “This man is our near relative.”	20 Noemi disse alla nuora: "Benedetto sia egli dal Signore, che non ritira la sua carità né ai morti né ai vivi"; poi soggiunse: "E' un nostro parente; è uno dei nostri riscattatori".
21 And Ruth said, “He charged me with this also, that from now on I should join with his reapers until all the crop has been reaped.”	21 Rut la moabita disse ancora: "Mi ha anche detto: "Sta' insieme ai miei servi fino a che sia finita tutta la mia mietitura".
22 And her mother-in-law said to her, “It is better, my daughter, to go out reaping with his young women, lest in a stranger’s field someone may confront you.”	22 Noemi disse a Rut sua nuora: "E' bene, figlia mia, che tu esca con le sue serve in modo che non ti importunino in un altro campo".
23 And so, she joined with the young women of Boaz, and from then on reaped with them, until the barley and the wheat were stored in the barns.	23 Rut infatti si unì con le serve di Booz per spigolare fino alla fine del raccolto dell'orzo e del raccolto del grano e poi restò presso la suocera.
