But concerning dates and times, brothers, you do not need us to write to you.1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you
For you yourselves thoroughly understand that the day of the Lord shall arrive much like a thief in the night.2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.
For when they will say, “Peace and security!” then destruction will suddenly overwhelm them, like the labor pains of a woman with child, and they will not escape.3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.
But you, brothers, are not in darkness, so that you would be overtaken by that day as by a thief.4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.
For all of you are sons of light and sons of daytime; we are not of nighttime, nor of darkness.5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,
Therefore, let us not sleep, as the rest do. Instead, we should be vigilant and sober.6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.
For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who are inebriated, are inebriated in the night.7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,
But we, who are of the daylight, should be sober, being clothed with the breastplate of faith and of charity and having, as a helmet, the hope of salvation.8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.
For God has not appointed us for wrath, but for the acquisition of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who died for us, so that, whether we watch, or whether we sleep, we may live in union with him.10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.
Because of this, console one another and build up one another, just as you are doing.11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.
And we ask you, brothers, to recognize those who labor among you, and who preside over you in the Lord, and who admonish you,12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.
so that you may consider them with an abundance of charity, for the sake of their work. Be at peace with them.13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.
And we ask you, brothers: correct the disruptive, console the weak-minded, support the sick, be patient with everyone.14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.
See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone. Instead, always pursue whatever is good, with one another and with all.15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.
Rejoice always.16 Always be joyful;
Pray without ceasing.17 pray constantly;
Give thanks in everything. For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for all of you.18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not choose to extinguish the Spirit.19 Do not stifle the Spirit
Do not spurn prophecies.20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;
But test all things. Hold on to whatever is good.21 test everything and hold on to what is good
Abstain from every kind of evil.22 and shun every form of evil.
And may the God of peace himself sanctify you through all things, so that your whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved without blame unto the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He who has called you is faithful. He shall act even now.24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.
Brothers, pray for us.25 Pray for us, my brothers.
Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.
I bind you, through the Lord, that this epistle is to be read to all the holy brothers.27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.2Th 1:1 Paul, Silvanus and Timothy, to the Church in Thessalonica which is in God our Father and the LordJesus Christ
