1 But a certain man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a field,	1 Ein Mann dagegen namens Ananias verkaufte im Einvernehmen mit seiner Frau Sapphira ein Grundstück,
2 and he was deceitful about the price of the field, with his wife’s consent. And bringing only part of it, he placed it at the feet of the Apostles.	2 behielt aber einen Teil des Erlöses unter Mitwissen seiner Frau für sich zurück: er brachte nur einen Teil davon und stellte ihn den Aposteln zur Verfügung.
3 But Peter said: “Ananias, why has Satan tempted your heart, so that you would lie to the Holy Spirit and be deceitful about the price of the land?	3 Da sagte Petrus: »Ananias, warum hat der Satan dir das Herz erfüllt (= bestrickt), daß du den heiligen Geist belogen und einen Teil vom Erlös des Ackers für dich zurückbehalten hast?
4 Did it not belong to you while you retained it? And having sold it, was it not in your power? Why have you set this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God!”	4 Blieb er nicht dein Eigentum, wenn du ihn unverkauft gelassen hättest, und stand dir nicht auch nach dem Verkauf die Verfügung über ihn (d.h. den Erlös) frei? Warum hast du dir eine solche Handlungsweise in den Sinn kommen lassen? Du hast nicht Menschen belogen, sondern Gott!«
5 Then Ananias, upon hearing these words, fell down and expired. And a great fear overwhelmed all who heard of it.	5 Als Ananias diese Worte hörte, fiel er nieder und gab seinen Geist auf. Da kam große Furcht über alle, die es hörten (oder: die zugehört hatten).
6 And the young men rose up and removed him; and carrying him out, they buried him.	6 Die jüngeren Männer aber standen auf, hüllten die Leiche in Tücher und trugen sie zum Begräbnis hinaus.
7 Then about the space of three hours passed, and his wife entered, not knowing what had happened.	7 Nach Verlauf von etwa drei Stunden trat auch seine Frau ein, ohne von dem Vorgefallenen etwas zu wissen.
8 And Peter said to her, “Tell me, woman, if you sold the field for this amount?” And she said, “Yes, for that amount.”	8 Petrus redete sie mit den Worten an: »Sage mir: habt ihr das Grundstück für diesen Preis verkauft?« Sie antwortete: »Ja, für diesen Preis.«
9 And Peter said to her: “Why have you agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out!”	9 Da sagte Petrus zu ihr: »Warum habt ihr beide euch verabredet, den Geist des Herrn zu versuchen? Siehe, die Füße derer, die deinen Mann zu Grabe getragen haben, stehen vor der Tür, und sie werden auch dich hinaustragen!«
10 Immediately, she fell down before his feet and expired. Then the young men entered and found her dead. And they carried her out and buried her next to her husband.	10 Da fiel sie augenblicklich zu seinen Füßen nieder und gab ihren Geist auf; und als die jungen Männer hereinkamen, fanden sie sie als Leiche vor; sie trugen sie hinaus und begruben sie bei ihrem Manne.
11 And a great fear came over the entire Church and over all who heard these things.	11 Da kam eine große Furcht über die ganze Gemeinde und über alle, die davon hörten.
12 And through the hands of the Apostles many signs and wonders were accomplished among the people. And they all met with one accord at Solomon’s portico.	12 Durch die Hände der Apostel aber geschahen viele Zeichen und Wunder unter dem Volke, und alle (Gläubigen) pflegten sich einmütig in der Halle Salomos zu versammeln;
13 And among the others, no one dared to join himself to them. But the people magnified them.	13 von den übrigen aber wagte sich niemand dort störend an sie heranzudrängen, sondern das Volk hielt sie hoch in Ehren.
14 Now the multitude of men and women who believed in the Lord was ever increasing,	14 Und immer mehr kamen solche hinzu, die an den Herrn glaubten, ganze Scharen von Männern und Frauen;
15 so much so that they laid the infirm in the streets, placing them on beds and stretchers, so that, as Peter arrived, at least his shadow might fall upon any one of them, and they would be freed from their infirmities.	15 ja man brachte die Kranken sogar auf die Straßen hinaus und legte sie dort auf Betten und Bahren, damit, wenn Petrus käme, wenigstens sein Schatten auf den einen oder andern von ihnen fiele.
16 But a multitude also hurried to Jerusalem from the neighboring cities, carrying the sick and those troubled by unclean spirits, who were all healed.	16 Aber auch aus den rings um Jerusalem liegenden Ortschaften strömte die Bevölkerung zusammen und brachte Kranke und von unreinen Geistern Geplagte dorthin, die dann alle geheilt wurden.
17 Then the high priest and all those who were with him, that is, the heretical sect of the Sadducees, rose up and were filled with jealousy.	17 Da erhob sich aber der Hohepriester samt seinem ganzen Anhang, nämlich die Partei (oder: Sonderrichtung) der Sadduzäer; sie waren voll von Eifersucht,
18 And they laid hands on the Apostles, and they placed them in the common prison.	18 ließen die Apostel festnehmen und sie in das öffentliche Gefängnis setzen.
19 But in the night, an Angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison and led them out, saying,	19 Aber ein Engel des Herrn öffnete während der Nacht die Gefängnistüren, führte sie hinaus und gebot ihnen:
20 “Go and stand in the temple, speaking to the people all these words of life.”	20 »Geht hin, tretet offen auf und verkündigt im Tempel dem Volk alle diese Lebensworte (oder: diese ganze Botschaft des Lebens)!«
21 And when they had heard this, they entered the temple at first light, and they were teaching. Then the high priest, and those who were with him, approached, and they called together the council and all the elders of the sons of Israel. And they sent to the prison to have them brought.	21 Als sie das gehört hatten, begaben sie sich mit Tagesanbruch in den Tempel und lehrten dort. Der Hohepriester und sein Anhang hatten sich inzwischen eingestellt und den Hohen Rat und die gesamte Ältestenschaft der Israeliten zur Versammlung berufen lassen und sandten nun ins Gefängnis, um sie vorführen zu lassen.
22 But when the attendants had arrived, and, upon opening the prison, had not found them, they returned and reported to them,	22 Als aber die Diener hinkamen, fanden sie sie im Gefängnis nicht vor und meldeten nach ihrer Rückkehr:
23 saying: “We found the prison certainly locked up with all diligence, and the guards standing before the door. But upon opening it, we found no one within.”	23 »Wir haben das Gefängnis ganz fest verschlossen gefunden, auch die Wächter standen auf ihrem Posten an den Türen; als wir aber aufschlossen, haben wir niemand drinnen vorgefunden.«
24 Then, when the magistrate of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were uncertain about them, as to what should happen.	24 Als der Tempelhauptmann und die Hohenpriester diese Meldung vernahmen, waren sie ihretwegen ratlos, welche Bewandtnis es damit wohl haben möchte.
25 But someone arrived and reported to them, “Behold, the men whom you placed in prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people.”	25 Da kam einer und meldete ihnen: »Denkt nur! Die Männer, die ihr ins Gefängnis gesetzt habt, die stehen jetzt im Tempel und lehren das Volk!«
26 Then the magistrate, with the attendants, went and brought them without force. For they were afraid of the people, lest they be stoned.	26 Da ging der Hauptmann mit den Dienern hin und holte sie herbei, doch ohne Anwendung von Gewalt; denn sie hatten zu befürchten, vom Volk gesteinigt zu werden.
27 And when they had brought them, they stood them before the council. And the high priest questioned them,	27 Sie brachten sie also herbei und stellten sie vor den Hohen Rat; und der Hohepriester verhörte sie folgendermaßen:
28 and said: “We strongly order you not to teach in this name. For behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and you wish to bring the blood of this man upon us.”	28 »Wir haben euch doch ausdrücklich geboten, auf Grund (oder: unter Nennung) dieses Namens nicht zu lehren, und trotzdem habt ihr mit eurer Lehre ganz Jerusalem erfüllt und wollt das Blut dieses Menschen auf uns bringen!«
29 But Peter and the Apostles responded by saying: “It is necessary to obey God, more so than men.	29 Da antwortete Petrus, und die Apostel erklärten: »Man muß Gott mehr gehorchen als den Menschen!
30 The God of our fathers has raised up Jesus, whom you put to death by hanging him on a tree.	30 Der Gott unserer Väter hat Jesus auferweckt, den ihr ans Holz gehängt (= ans Kreuz geschlagen) und hingerichtet habt.
31 It is he whom God has exalted at his right hand as Ruler and Savior, so as to offer repentance and the remission of sins to Israel.	31 Diesen hat Gott durch seine rechte Hand zum Anführer (oder: Fürsten) und Retter (oder: Heiland) erhöht, um Israel Buße und Vergebung der Sünden zu verleihen.
32 And we are witnesses of these things, with the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to all who are obedient to him.”	32 Für diese Tatsachen sind wir Zeugen und auch der heilige Geist, den Gott denen verliehen hat, die ihm gehorsam sind.«
33 When they had heard these things, they were deeply wounded, and they were planning to put them to death.	33 Als jene das hörten, ging es ihnen wie ein Stich durchs Herz, und sie waren entschlossen, sie hinrichten zu lassen.
34 But someone in the council, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law honored by all the people, rose up and ordered the men to be put outside briefly.	34 Doch da stand in der Versammlung ein Pharisäer namens Gamaliel auf, ein beim ganzen Volk hochangesehener Gesetzeslehrer; er ließ die Männer auf kurze Zeit hinausführen
35 And he said to them: “Men of Israel, you should be careful in your intentions about these men.	35 und richtete dann folgende Ansprache an die Versammlung: »Ihr Männer von Israel, überlegt euch wohl, wie ihr mit diesen Leuten verfahren wollt!
36 For before these days, Theudas stepped forward, asserting himself to be someone, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined with him. But he was killed, and all who believed in him were scattered, and they were reduced to nothing.	36 Denn vor einiger Zeit trat Theudas auf und gab sich für etwas Besonderes aus, und eine Anzahl von etwa vierhundert Männern fiel ihm zu; aber er fand den Tod, und alle seine Anhänger wurden zersprengt und vernichtet.
37 After this one, Judas the Galilean stepped forward, in the days of the enrollment, and he turned the people toward himself. But he also perished, and all of them, as many as had joined with him, were dispersed.	37 Nach diesem trat Judas aus Galiläa zur Zeit der Schätzung (= Reichszählung) auf und brachte einen Volkshaufen zum Aufstand unter seiner Führung; aber auch er kam ums Leben, und sein ganzer Anhang wurde zerstreut.
38 And now therefore, I say to you, withdraw from these men and leave them alone. For if this counsel or work is of men, it will be broken.	38 Und nunmehr gebe ich euch den Rat: Steht von diesen Leuten ab und laßt sie gewähren! Denn wenn dieses Vorhaben oder dieses Werk von Menschen ausgeht, so wird es zunichte werden;
39 Yet truly, if it is of God, you will not be able to break it, and perhaps you might be found to have fought against God.” And they agreed with him.	39 hat es aber seinen Ursprung in Gott, so werdet ihr diese Leute nicht zu vernichten vermögen. Laßt ihr euch nur nicht gar als Widersacher Gottes erfinden!« Daraufhin folgten sie seinem Rat:
40 And calling in the Apostles, having beaten them, they warned them not to speak at all in the name of Jesus. And they dismissed them.	40 sie ließen die Apostel wieder hereinrufen und geißeln und befahlen ihnen, auf Grund des Namens Jesu nicht mehr zu predigen; dann gab man sie frei.
41 And indeed, they went forth from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were considered worthy to suffer insult on behalf of the name of Jesus.	41 So gingen sie denn aus dem Hohen Rat weg, hocherfreut, daß sie gewürdigt worden waren, um des Namens (Jesu) willen Schmach zu erleiden;
42 And every day, in the temple and among the houses, they did not cease to teach and to evangelize Christ Jesus.	42 und sie hörten nicht auf, täglich im Tempel und in den Häusern zu lehren und die Heilsbotschaft von Christus Jesus zu verkündigen.
