1 But while they were speaking to the people, the priests and the magistrate of the temple and the Sadducees overwhelmed them,	1 Tandis qu'ils parlaient au peuple, survinrent les prètres, le capitaine du temple et les sadduccéens,
2 being grieved that they were teaching the people and announcing in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.	2 ennuyés de ce qu'ils enseignaient le peuple et annonçaient en Jésus la résurrection des morts;
3 And they laid hands on them, and they placed them under guard until the next day. For it was now evening.	3 et ayant jeté les mains sur eux, ils les mirent en prison jusqu'au lendemain, car il était dejà tard.
4 But many of those who had heard the word believed. And the number of men became five thousand.	4 Cependant, beaucoup de ceux qui avaient entendu la parole crurent; et le nombre des hommes furent de cinq mille.
5 And it happened on the next day that their leaders and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem,	5 Mais il arriva, le lendemain, que les chefs du peuple, les anciens et les scribes s'assemblèrent à Jérusalem,
6 including Annas, the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John and Alexander, and as many as were of the priestly family.	6 avec Anne le grand prêtre, Caïphe, Jean, Alexandre, et tous ceux qui étaient de la race sacerdotale.
7 And stationing them in the middle, they questioned them: “By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?”	7 Et faisant comparaître les Apôtres au milieu d'eux, ils leur demandèrent: Par quelle puissance, ou au nom de qui avez-vous fait cela?
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Leaders of the people and elders, listen.	8 Alors, Pierre, rempli du Saint-Esprit, leur dit: Princes du peuple et anciens, écoutez.
9 If we today are judged by a good deed done to an infirm man, by which he has been made whole,	9 Puisque aujourd'hui nous sommes jugés pour avoir fait du bien à un homme infirme, et qu'on nous demande comment il a été guéri,
10 let it be known to all of you and to all of the people of Israel, that in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God has raised from the dead, by him, this man stands before you, healthy.	10 qu'il soit connu de vous tous, et de tout le peuple d'Israël, que c'est par le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ de Nazareth, que vous avez crucifié, et que Dieu a ressuscité des morts; c'est par Lui que cet homme se tient guéri devant vous.
11 He is the stone, which was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.	11 C'est Lui qui est la pierre rejetée par vous les constructeurs, et qui est devenu la pierre de l'angle,
12 And there is no salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, by which it is necessary for us to be saved.”	12 et il n'y a de salut en aucun autre: car aucun autre nom sous le ciel n'a été donné aux hommes, par lequel nous devions être sauvés.
13 Then, seeing the constancy of Peter and John, having verified that they were men without letters or learning, they wondered. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.	13 Voyant la constance de Pierre et de Jean, et ayant appris que c'étaient des hommes sans instruction, et du commun du peuple, ils étaient dans l'étonnement; ils savaient d'ailleurs qu'ils avaient été avec Jésus;
14 Also, seeing the man who had been cured standing with them, they were unable to say anything to contradict them.	14 et voyant debout avec eux l'homme qui avait été guéri, ils n'avaient rien à répliquer.
15 But they ordered them to withdraw outside, away from the council, and they conferred among themselves,	15 Ils leur ordonnèrent donc de sortir de l'assemblée, et ils délibéraient entre eux,
16 saying: “What shall we do to these men? For certainly a public sign has been done through them, before all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. It is manifest, and we cannot deny it.	16 en disant: Que ferons-nous à ces hommes? car ils ont fait un miracle connu de tous les habitants de Jérusalem; cela est manifeste, et nous ne pouvons pas le nier.
17 But lest it spread further among the people, let us threaten them not to speak anymore in this name to any man.”	17 Mais, afin que cela ne soit pas divulgué davantage parmi le peuple, défendons-leur avec menaces de parler à l'avenir en ce nom-là à qui que ce soit.
18 And calling them in, they warned them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.	18 Et les ayant rappelés, ils leur défendirent absolument de parler et d'enseigner au nom de Jésus.
19 Yet truly, Peter and John said in response to them: “Judge whether it is just in the sight of God to listen to you, rather than to God.	19 Mais Pierre et Jean leur répondirent: Jugez s'il est juste devant Dieu de vous écouter plutôt que Dieu;
20 For we are unable to refrain from speaking the things that we have seen and heard.”	20 car nous ne pouvons pas ne point parler de ce que nous avons vu et entendu.
21 But they, threatening them, sent them away, having not found a way that they might punish them because of the people. For all were glorifying the things that had been done in these events.	21 Ils les relâchèrent néanmoins, après les avoir menacés, ne trouvant aucun moyen de les punir, à cause du peuple, parce que tous glorifiaient Dieu de ce qui était arrivé.
22 For the man in whom this sign of a cure had been accomplished was more than forty years old.	22 En effet, l'homme en qui avait été opéré ce miracle de guérison avait plus de quarante ans.
23 Then, having been released, they went to their own, and they reported in full what the leaders of the priests and the elders had said to them.	23 Après qu'on les eut relâchés, ils vinrent auprès des leurs et leur racontèrent tout ce que les princes des prêtres et les anciens leur avaient dit.
24 And when they had heard it, with one accord, they lifted up their voice to God, and they said: “Lord, you are the One who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them,	24 Lorsqu'ils l'eurent entendu, ils élevèrent unanimement leur voix vers Dieu, et ils dirent: Seigneur, c'est Vous qui avez fait le ciel et la terre, la mer, et tout ce qu'ils contiennent;
25 who, by the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said: ‘Why have the Gentiles been seething, and why have the people been pondering nonsense?	25 Vous qui avez dit par l'Esprit-Saint, par la bouche de notre père David, Votre serviteur: Pourquoi les nations ont-elles frémi, et les peuples ont-ils formé de vains projets?
26 The kings of the earth have stood up, and the leaders have joined together as one, against the Lord and against his Christ.’	26 Les rois de la terre se sont soulevés, et les princes se sont ligués ensemble contre le Seigneur et contre Son Christ.
27 For truly Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, joined together in this city against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed	27 Car Hérode et Ponce Pilate se sont vraiment ligués dans cette ville avec les gentils et le peuple d'Israël, contre Votre saint serviteur Jésus, que Vous avez oint,
28 to do what your hand and your counsel had decreed would be done.	28 pour faire ce que Votre main et Votre conseil avaient décrété de laisser faire.
29 And now, O Lord, look upon their threats, and grant to your servants that they may speak your word with all confidence,	29 Et maintenant, Seigneur, regardez leurs menaces, et donnez à Vos serviteurs d'annoncer Votre parole en toute confiance,
30 by extending your hand in cures and signs and miracles, to be done through the name of your holy Son, Jesus.”	30 en étendant Votre main pour opérer des guérisons, des miracles et des prodiges, par le nom de Votre saint Fils Jésus.
31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered was moved. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. And they were speaking the Word of God with confidence.	31 Lorsqu'ils eurent prié, le lieu où ils étaient assemblés trembla; ils furent tous remplis de l'Esprit-Saint, et ils annonçaient la parole de Dieu avec confiance.
32 Then the multitude of believers were of one heart and one soul. Neither did anyone say that any of the things that he possessed were his own, but all things were common to them.	32 Or la multitude des croyants n'avait qu'un coeur et qu'une âme, et aucun ne disait de ce qu'il possédait que c'était à lui; mais toutes choses étaient communes entre eux.
33 And with great power, the Apostles were rendering testimony to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord. And great grace was in them all.	33 Les Apôtres rendaient témoignage avec une grande force à la résurrection de Jésus-Christ Notre-Seigneur, et une grâce était en eux tous.
34 And neither was anyone among them in need. For as many as were owners of fields or houses, selling these, were bringing the proceeds of the things that they were selling,	34 Car il n'y avait aucun pauvre parmi eux: tous ceux qui possédaient des terres ou des maisons les vendaient, apportaient le prix de ce qu'ils avaient vendu,
35 and were placing it before the feet of the Apostles. Then it was divided to each one, just as he had need.	35 et le mettaient aux pieds des Apôtres; on le distribuait ensuite à chacun, selon ses besoins.
36 Now Joseph, who the Apostles surnamed Barnabas (which is translated as ‘son of consolation’), who was a Levite of Cyprian descent,	36 C'est ainsi que Joseph, surnommé Barnabé par les Apôtres (c'est-â-dire, fils de consolation), lévite, originaire de la Chypre,
37 since he had land, he sold it, and he brought the proceeds and placed these at the feet of the Apostles.	37 ayant un champ, le vendit, et en apporta le prix, qu'il mit aux pieds des Apôtres.
