But Jesus continued on to the Mount of Olives.1 Iesus autem perrexit in montem Oliveti.
And early in the morning, he went again to the temple; and all the people came to him. And sitting down, he taught them.2 Diluculo autem iterum venit intemplum, et omnis populus veniebat ad eum, et sedens docebat eos.
Now the scribes and Pharisees brought forward a woman caught in adultery, and they stood her in front of them.3 Adducuntautem scribae et pharisaei mulierem in adulterio deprehensam et statuerunt eamin medio
And they said to him: “Teacher, this woman was just now caught in adultery.4 et dicunt ei: “ Magister, haec mulier manifesto deprehensa est inadulterio.
And in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such a one. Therefore, what do you say?”5 In lege autem Moyses mandavit nobis huiusmodi lapidare; tu ergoquid dicis? ”.
But they were saying this to test him, so that they might be able to accuse him. Then Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the earth.6 Hoc autem dicebant tentantes eum, ut possent accusare eum.Iesus autem inclinans se deorsum digito scribebat in terra.
And then, when they persevered in questioning him, he stood upright and said to them, “Let whoever is without sin among you be the first to cast a stone at her.”7 Cum autemperseverarent interrogantes eum, erexit se et dixit eis: “ Qui sine peccatoest vestrum, primus in illam lapidem mittat ”;
And bending down again, he wrote on the earth.8 et iterum se inclinansscribebat in terra.
But upon hearing this, they went away, one by one, beginning with the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, with the woman standing in front of him.9 Audientes autem unus post unum exibant, incipientes asenioribus, et remansit solus, et mulier in medio stans.
Then Jesus, raising himself up, said to her: “Woman, where are those who accused you? Has no one condemned you?”10 Erigens autem seIesus dixit ei: “ Mulier, ubi sunt? Nemo te condemnavit? ”.
And she said, “No one, Lord.” Then Jesus said: “Neither will I condemn you. Go, and now do not choose to sin anymore.”11 Quae dixit:“ Nemo, Domine ”. Dixit autem Iesus: “ Nec ego te condemno; vade etamplius iam noli peccare ”.
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me does not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”12 Iterum ergo locutus est eis Iesus dicens: “ Ego sum lux mundi; qui sequiturme, non ambulabit in tenebris, sed habebit lucem vitae ”.
And so the Pharisees said to him, “You offer testimony about yourself; your testimony is not true.”13 Dixerunt ergo eipharisaei: “ Tu de teipso testimonium perhibes; testimonium tuum non est verum”.
Jesus responded and said to them: “Even though I offer testimony about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going.14 Respondit Iesus et dixit eis: “ Et si ego testimonium perhibeo demeipso, verum est testimonium meum, quia scio unde veni et quo vado; vos autemnescitis unde venio aut quo vado.
You judge according to the flesh. I do not judge anyone.15 Vos secundum carnem iudicatis, ego noniudico quemquam.
And when I do judge, my judgment is true. For I am not alone, but it is I and he who sent me: the Father.16 Et si iudico ego, iudicium meum verum est, quia solus nonsum, sed ego et, qui me misit, Pater.
And it is written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.17 Sed et in lege vestra scriptum est, quia duorum hominum testimonium verum est.
I am one who offers testimony about myself, and the Father who sent me offers testimony about me.”18 Ego sum, qui testimonium perhibeode meipso, et testimonium perhibet de me, qui misit me, Pater ”.
Therefore, they said to him, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered: “You know neither me, nor my Father. If you did know me, perhaps you would know my Father also.”19 Dicebantergo ei: “ Ubi est Pater tuus? ”. Respondit Iesus: “ Neque me scitis nequePatrem meum; si me sciretis, forsitan et Patrem meum sciretis ”.
Jesus spoke these words at the treasury, while teaching in the temple. And no one apprehended him, because his hour had not yet come.20 Haec verbalocutus est in gazophylacio docens in templo; et nemo apprehendit eum, quianecdum venerat hora eius.
Therefore, Jesus again spoke to them: “I am going, and you shall seek me. And you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you are not able to go.”21 Dixit ergo iterum eis: “ Ego vado, et quaeretis me et in peccato vestromoriemini! Quo ego vado, vos non potestis venire ”.
And so the Jews said, “Is he going to kill himself, for he said: ‘Where I am going, you are not able to go?’ ”22 Dicebant ergo Iudaei:“ Numquid interficiet semetipsum, quia dicit: “Quo ego vado, vos nonpotestis venire”? ”.
And he said to them: “You are from below. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.23 Et dicebat eis: “ Vos de deorsum estis, ego desupernis sum; vos de mundo hoc estis, ego non sum de hoc mundo.
Therefore, I said to you, that you will die in your sins. For if you will not believe that I am, you will die in your sin.”24 Dixi ergovobis quia moriemini in peccatis vestris; si enim non credideritis quia ego sum, moriemini in peccatis vestris ”.
And so they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them: “The Beginning, who is also speaking to you.25 Dicebant ergo ei: “ Tu quis es? ”.Dixit eis Iesus: “ In principio: id quod et loquor vobis!
I have much to say about you and to judge. But he who sent me is true. And what I have heard from him, this I speak within the world.”26 Multa habeo devobis loqui et iudicare; sed, qui misit me, verax est, et ego, quae audivi abeo, haec loquor ad mundum ”.
And they did not realize that he was calling God his Father.27 Non cognoverunt quia Patrem eis dicebat.
And so Jesus said to them: “When you will have lifted up the Son of man, then you shall realize that I am, and that I do nothing of myself, but just as the Father has taught me, so do I speak.28 Dixit ergo eis Iesus: “ Cum exaltaveritis Filium hominis, tunc cognoscetisquia ego sum et a meipso facio nihil, sed, sicut docuit me Pater, haec loquor.
And he who sent me is with me, and he has not abandoned me alone. For I always do what is pleasing to him.”29 Et qui me misit, mecum est; non reliquit me solum, quia ego, quae placitasunt ei, facio semper ”.
As he was speaking these things, many believed in him.30 Haec illo loquente, multi crediderunt in eum.
Therefore, Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him: “If you will abide in my word, you will truly be my disciples.31 Dicebat ergo Iesus ad eos, qui crediderunt ei, Iudaeos: “ Si vos manseritisin sermone meo, vere discipuli mei estis
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”32 et cognoscetis veritatem, et veritasliberabit vos ”.
They answered him: “We are the offspring of Abraham, and we have never been a slave to anyone. How can you say, ‘You shall be set free?’ ”33 Responderunt ei: “ Semen Abrahae sumus et neminiservivimus umquam! Quomodo tu dicis: “Liberi fietis”? ”.
Jesus answered them: “Amen, amen, I say to you, that everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.34 Respondit eisIesus: “ Amen, amen dico vobis: Omnis, qui facit peccatum, servus est peccati.
Now the slave does not abide in the house for eternity. Yet the Son does abide in eternity.35 Servus autem non manet in domo in aeternum; filius manet in aeternum.
Therefore, if the Son has set you free, then you will truly be free.36 Siergo Filius vos liberaverit, vere liberi eritis.
I know that you are sons of Abraham. But you are seeking to kill me, because my word has not taken hold in you.37 Scio quia semen Abrahaeestis; sed quaeritis me interficere, quia sermo meus non capit in vobis.
I speak what I have seen with my Father. And you do what you have seen with your father.”38 Ego,quae vidi apud Patrem, loquor; et vos ergo, quae audivistis a patre, facitis ”.
They responded and said to him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them: “If you are the sons of Abraham, then do the works of Abraham.39 Responderunt et dixerunt ei: “ Pater noster Abraham est ”. Dicit eisIesus: “ Si filii Abrahae essetis, opera Abrahae faceretis.
But now you are seeking to kill me, a man who has spoken the truth to you, which I have heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.40 Nunc autemquaeritis me interficere, hominem, qui veritatem vobis locutus sum, quam audivia Deo; hoc Abraham non fecit.
You do the works of your father.” Therefore, they said to him: “We were not born out of fornication. We have one father: God.”41 Vos facitis opera patris vestri ”. Dixeruntitaque ei: “ Nos ex fornicatione non sumus nati; unum patrem habemus Deum! ”.
Then Jesus said to them: “If God were your father, certainly you would love me. For I proceeded and came from God. For I did not come from myself, but he sent me.42 Dixit eis Iesus: “ Si Deus pater vester esset, diligeretis me; ego enim exDeo processi et veni; neque enim a meipso veni, sed ille me misit.
Why do you not recognize my speech? It is because you are not able to hear my word.43 Quareloquelam meam non cognoscitis? Quia non potestis audire sermonem meum.
You are of your father, the devil. And you will carry out the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning. And he did not stand in the truth, because the truth is not in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks it from his own self. For he is a liar, and the father of lies.44 Vos expatre Diabolo estis et desideria patris vestri vultis facere. Ille homicida eratab initio et in veritate non stabat, quia non est veritas in eo. Cum loquiturmendacium, ex propriis loquitur, quia mendax est et pater eius.
But if I speak the truth, you do not believe me.45 Ego autemquia veritatem dico, non creditis mihi.
Which of you can convict me of sin? If I speak the truth to you, why do you not believe me?46 Quis ex vobis arguit me de peccato?Si veritatem dico, quare vos non creditis mihi?
Whoever is of God, hears the words of God. For this reason, you do not hear them: because you are not of God.”47 Qui est ex Deo, verba Deiaudit; propterea vos non auditis, quia ex Deo non estis ”.
Therefore, the Jews responded and said to him, “Are we not correct in saying that you are a Samaritan, and that you have a demon?”48 Responderunt Iudaei et dixerunt ei: “ Nonne bene dicimus nos, quiaSamaritanus es tu et daemonium habes? ”.
Jesus responded: “I do not have a demon. But I honor my Father, and you have dishonored me.49 Respondit Iesus: “ Ego daemoniumnon habeo, sed honorifico Patrem meum, et vos inhonoratis me.
But I am not seeking my own glory. There is One who seeks and judges.50 Ego autem nonquaero gloriam meam; est qui quaerit et iudicat.
Amen, amen, I say to you, if anyone will have kept my word, he will not see death for eternity.”51 Amen, amen dico vobis: Siquis sermonem meum servaverit, mortem non videbit in aeternum ”.
Therefore, the Jews said: “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham is dead, and the Prophets; and yet you say, ‘If anyone will have kept my word, he shall not taste death for eternity.’52 Dixeruntergo ei Iudaei: “ Nunc cognovimus quia daemonium habes. Abraham mortuus est etprophetae, et tu dicis: “Si quis sermonem meum servaverit, non gustabit mortemin aeternum”.
Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. So who do you make yourself to be?”53 Numquid tu maior es patre nostro Abraham, qui mortuus est? Etprophetae mortui sunt! Quem teipsum facis? ”.
Jesus responded: “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me. And you say about him that he is your God.54 Respondit Iesus: “ Si egoglorifico meipsum, gloria mea nihil est; est Pater meus, qui glorificat me, quemvos dicitis: “Deus noster est!”,
And yet you have not known him. But I know him. And if I were to say that I do not know him, then I would be like you, a liar. But I know him, and I keep his word.55 et non cognovistis eum. Ego autem novieum. Et si dixero: Non scio eum, ero similis vobis, mendax; sed scio eum etsermonem eius servo.
Abraham, your father, rejoiced that he might see my day; he saw it and was glad.”56 Abraham pater vester exsultavit, ut videret diem meum;et vidit et gavisus est ”.
And so the Jews said to him, “You have not yet reached fifty years, and you have seen Abraham?”57 Dixerunt ergo Iudaei ad eum: “ Quinquagintaannos nondum habes et Abraham vidisti? ”.
Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham was made, I am.”58 Dixit eis Iesus: “ Amen, amendico vobis: Antequam Abraham fieret, ego sum ”.
Therefore, they took up stones to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself, and he departed from the temple.59 Tulerunt ergo lapides, utiacerent in eum; Iesus autem abscondit se et exivit de templo.
