1 After these things, there was a feast day of the Jews, and so Jesus ascended to Jerusalem.	1 Après cela, il y avait une (la car note) fête des Juifs, et Jésus monta à Jérusalem.
2 Now at Jerusalem is the Pool of Evidence, which in Hebrew is known as the Place of Mercy; it has five porticos.	2 Or il y a à Jérusalem la piscine des Brebis (une piscine probatique, note), qui s'appelle en hébreu Bethsaïda, et qui a cinq portiques.
3 Along these lay a great multitude of the sick, the blind, the lame, and the withered, waiting for the movement of the water.	3 Sous ces portiques étaient étendus un grand nombre de malades, d'aveugles, de boiteux, de paralytiques, qui attendaient le mouvement de l'eau.
4 Now at times an Angel of the Lord would descend into the pool, and so the water was moved. And whoever descended first into the pool, after the motion of the water, he was healed of whatever infirmity held him.	4 Car (un) l'ange du Seigneur descendait de temps en temps dans la piscine, et en agitait l'eau ; et celui qui descendait le premier dans la piscine après que l'eau avait été agité était guéri, quelle que fût sa maladie.
5 And there was a certain man in that place, having been in his infirmity for thirty-eight years.	5 Or il y avait là un homme qui était malade depuis trente-huit ans.
6 Then, when Jesus had seen him reclining, and when he realized that he had been afflicted for a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?”	6 Jésus, l'ayant vu couché et sachant qu'il était malade depuis longtemps déjà, lui dit : Veux-tu être guéri ?
7 The invalid answered him: “Lord, I do not have any man to put me in the pool, when the water has been stirred. For as I am going, another descends ahead of me.”	7 Le malade lui répondit : Seigneur, je n'ai personne pour me jeter dans la piscine lorsque l'eau a été agitée ; et pendant que j'y vais, un autre descend avant moi.
8 Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your stretcher, and walk.”	8 Jésus lui dit : Lève-toi, prends ton grabat, et marche.
9 And immediately the man was healed. And he took up his stretcher and walked. Now this day was the Sabbath.	9 Et aussitôt cet homme fut guéri, et il prit son grabat, et marcha. Or ce jour-là était un jour de sabbat.
10 Therefore, the Jews said to the one who had been healed: “It is the Sabbath. It is not lawful for you to take up your stretcher.”	10 Les Juifs dirent donc à celui qui avait été guéri : C'est le sabbat ; il ne t'est pas permis d'emporter ton grabat.
11 He answered them, “The one who healed me, he said to me, ‘Take up your stretcher and walk.’ ”	11 Il leur répondit : Celui-là même qui m'a guéri m'a dit : Prends ton grabat, et marche.
12 Therefore, they questioned him, “Who is that man, who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk?’ ”	12 Ils lui demandèrent : Quel est cet homme qui t'a dit : Prends ton grabat, et marche ?
13 But the one who had been given health did not know who it was. For Jesus had turned aside from the crowd gathered in that place.	13 Mais celui qui avait été guéri ne savait pas qui c'était ; car Jésus s'était retiré de la foule rassemblée en ce lieu.
14 Afterwards, Jesus found him in the temple, and he said to him: “Behold, you have been healed. Do not choose to sin further, otherwise something worse may happen to you.”	14 Plus tard, Jésus le trouva dans le temple, et lui dit : Voici que tu as été guéri ; ne pèche plus désormais, de peur qu'il ne t'arrive quelque chose de pire.
15 This man went away, and he reported to the Jews that it was Jesus who had given him health.	15 Cet homme alla, et annonça aux Juifs que c'était Jésus qui l'avait guéri.
16 Because of this, the Jews were persecuting Jesus, for he was doing these things on the Sabbath.	16 C'est pourquoi les Juifs poursuivaient Jésus, parce qu'il faisait ces choses le jour du sabbat.
17 But Jesus answered them, “Even now, my Father is working, and I am working.”	17 Mais Jésus leur répondit : Mon Père agit jusqu'à présent, et moi aussi j'agis.
18 And so, because of this, the Jews were seeking to kill him even more so. For not only did he break the Sabbath, but he even said that God was his Father, making himself equal to God.	18 A cause de cela, les Juifs cherchaient encore davantage à le faire mourir, parce que non seulement il violait le sabbat, mais parce qu'en outre il disait que Dieu était son Père, se faisant égal à Dieu. Jésus reprit donc la parole, et leur dit :
19 Then Jesus responded and said to them: “Amen, amen, I say to you, the Son is not able to do anything of himself, but only what he has seen the Father doing. For whatever he does, even this does the Son do, similarly.	19 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, le Fils ne peut rien faire de lui-même, si ce n'est ce qu'il voit faire au Père ; car tout ce que le Père fait, le Fils aussi le fait pareillement.
20 For the Father loves the Son, and he shows him all that he himself does. And greater works than these will he show him, so much so that you shall wonder.	20 Car le Père aime le Fils, et lui montre tout ce qu'il fait ; et il lui montrera desœuvres plus grandes que celles-ci, afin que vous soyez dans l'admiration.
21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives life, so also does the Son give life to whomever he wills.	21 De même, en effet, que le Père ressuscite les morts et les vivifie, de même aussi le Fils vivifie ceux qu'il veut.
22 For the Father does not judge anyone. But he has given all judgment to the Son,	22 Car le Père ne juge personne ; mais il a remis tout le jugement au Fils,
23 so that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son, does not honor the Father who sent him.	23 afin que tous honorent le Fils comme ils honorent le Père. Celui qui n'honore pas le Fils, n'honore pas le Père qui l'a envoyé.
24 Amen, amen, I say to you, that whoever hears my word, and believes in him who sent me, has eternal life, and he does not go into judgment, but instead he crosses from death into life.	24 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, celui qui écoute ma parole et qui croit à celui qui m'a envoyé, a la vie éternelle et ne vient pas en jugement ; mais il est passé de la mort à la vie.
25 Amen, amen, I say to you, that the hour is coming, and it is now, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear it shall live.	25 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, l'heure vient, et elle est déjà venue, où les morts entendront la voix du Fils de Dieu, et ceux qui l'auront entendue vivront.
26 For just as the Father has life in himself, so also has he granted to the Son to have life in himself.	26 Car, comme le Père a la vie en lui-même, ainsi il a donné également au Fils d'avoir la vie en lui-même ;
27 And he has given him the authority to accomplish judgment. For he is the Son of man.	27 et il lui a donné le pouvoir d'exercer un jugement, parce qu'il est le Fils de l'homme.
28 Do not be amazed at this. For the hour is coming in which all who are in the grave shall hear the voice of the Son of God.	28 Ne vous étonnez pas de cela ; car l'heure vient où tous ceux qui sont dans les sépulcres entendront la voix du Fils de Dieu ;
29 And those who have done good shall go forth to the resurrection of life. Yet truly, those who have done evil shall go to the resurrection of judgment.	29 et ceux qui auront fait le bien en sortiront pour la résurrection de la vie ; mais ceux qui auront fait le mal en sortiront pour la résurrection du jugement.
30 I am not able to do anything of myself. As I hear, so do I judge. And my judgment is just. For I do not seek my own will, but the will of him who sent me.	30 Je ne puis rien faire de moi-même : selon ce que j'entends, je juge ; et mon jugement est juste, parce que je ne cherche pas ma volonté, mais la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé.
31 If I offer testimony about myself, my testimony is not true.	31 Si c'est moi qui rends témoignage de moi-même, mon témoignage n'est pas vrai.
32 There is another who offers testimony about me, and I know that the testimony which he offers about me is true.	32 C'est un autre qui rend témoignage de moi, et je sais que le témoignage qu'il rend de moi est vrai.
33 You sent to John, and he offered testimony to the truth.	33 Vous avez envoyé auprès de Jean, et il a rendu témoignage à la vérité.
34 But I do not accept testimony from man. Instead, I say these things, so that you may be saved.	34 Pour moi, ce n'est pas d'un homme que je reçois le témoignage ; mais je dis cela afin que vous soyez sauvés.
35 He was a burning and shining light. So you were willing, at the time, to exult in his light.	35 Jean était une lampe ardente et brillante ; et vous avez voulu vous réjouir une heure à sa lumière.
36 But I hold a greater testimony than that of John. For the works which the Father has given to me, so that I may complete them, these works themselves that I do, offer testimony about me: that the Father has sent me.	36 Mais moi, j'ai un témoignage plus grand que celui de Jean ; car lesœuvres que le Père m'a données d'accomplir, lesœuvres mêmes que je fais, rendent de moi le témoignage que c'est le Père qui m'a envoyé.
37 And the Father who has sent me has himself offered testimony about me. And you have never heard his voice, nor have you beheld his appearance.	37 Le Père, qui m'a envoyé, a rendu lui-même témoignage de moi. Vous n'avez jamais entendu sa voix, ni contemplé sa face.
38 And you do not have his word abiding in you. For the one whom he sent, the same you would not believe.	38 Et vous n'avez pas sa parole demeurant en vous, parce que vous ne croyez pas à celui qu'il a envoyé.
39 Study the Scriptures. For you think that in them you have eternal life. And yet they also offer testimony about me.	39 Vous scrutez les Ecritures, parce que vous pensez avoir en elles la vie éternelle ; ce sont elles aussi qui rendent témoignage de moi.
40 And you are not willing to come to me, so that you may have life.	40 Et vous ne voulez pas venir à moi pour avoir la vie.
41 I do not accept glory from men.	41 Je n'accepte pas la gloire qui vient des hommes.
42 But I know you, that you do not have the love of God within you.	42 Mais je vous connais, et je sais que vous n'avez pas l'amour de Dieu en vous.
43 I have come in the name of my Father, and you do not accept me. If another will arrive in his own name, him you will accept.	43 Je suis venu au nom de mon Père, et vous ne me recevez pas ; si un autre vient en son propre nom, vous le recevrez.
44 How are you able to believe, you who accept glory from one another and yet do not seek the glory that is from God alone?	44 Comment pouvez-vous croire, vous qui recevez votre gloire les uns des autres, et qui ne cherchez pas la gloire qui vient de Dieu seul ?
45 Do not consider that I might accuse you with the Father. There is one who accuses you, Moses, in whom you hope.	45 Ne pensez pas que ce soit moi qui vous accuserai devant le Père ; celui qui vous accuse, c'est Moïse, en qui vous espérez.
46 For if you were believing in Moses, perhaps you would believe in me also. For he wrote about me.	46 Car, si vous croyiez à Moïse, vous croiriez aussi en moi, puisque c'est de moi qu'il a écrit.
47 But if you do not believe by his writings, how will you believe by my words?”	47 Mais, si vous ne croyez pas à ses écrits, comment croirez-vous à mes paroles ?
