“And when you will have entered into the land which the Lord your God will give to you to possess, and when you will have obtained it and are living within it:1 Cuando entres en la tierra que el Señor, tu Dios, va a darte en heredad, cuando la tomes en posesión y habites en ella,
you shall take the first of all your crops, and place them in a basket, and you shall travel to the place which the Lord your God will choose, so that his name may be invoked there.2 tomarás una parte de las primicias de todos los frutos que coseches de la tierra que va a darte el Señor, tu Dios, las meterás en una cesta, irás al lugar que el Señor, tu Dios, haya elegido para morada de su nombre,
And you shall approach the priest who will be in those days, and you shall say to him: ‘I profess this day, before the Lord your God, that I have entered into the land about which he swore to our fathers that he would give it to us.’3 te presentarás al sacerdote que esté en funciones por aquellos días y le dirás: “Declaro hoy al Señor, mi Dios, que he entrado en la tierra que el Señor juró a nuestros padres que nos daría”.
And the priest, taking up the basket from your hand, shall place it before the altar of the Lord your God.4 El sacerdote tomará de tu mano la cesta y la pondrá ante el altar del Señor, tu Dios.
And you shall say, in the sight of the Lord your God: ‘The Syrian pursued my father, who descended into Egypt, and he sojourned there in a very small number, and he increased into a great and strong nation and into an innumerable multitude.5 Entonces tomarás la palabra y dirás ante el Señor, tu Dios: “Mi padre fue un arameo errante, que bajó a Egipto, y se estableció allí como emigrante, con pocas personas, pero allí se convirtió en un pueblo grande, fuerte y numeroso.
And the Egyptians afflicted us, and they persecuted us, imposing upon us the most grievous burdens.6 Los egipcios nos maltrataron, nos oprimieron y nos impusieron una dura esclavitud.
And we cried out to the Lord, the God of our fathers. He heard us, and he looked with favor upon our humiliation, and hardship, and distress.7 Entonces clamamos al Señor, Dios de nuestros padres, y el Señor escuchó nuestros gritos, miró nuestra indefensión, nuestra angustia y nuestra opresión.
And he led us away from Egypt, with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, with a mighty terror, with signs and wonders.8 El Señor nos sacó de Egipto con mano fuerte y brazo extendido, en medio de gran terror, con signos y prodigios,
And he led us into this place, and he delivered to us the land flowing with milk and honey.9 y nos trajo a este lugar, y nos dio esta tierra, una tierra que mana leche y miel.
And because of this, I now offer the first fruits of the land which the Lord has given to me.’ And you shall leave them in the sight of the Lord your God, and you shall adore the Lord your God.10 Por eso, ahora traigo aquí las primicias de los frutos del suelo que tú, Señor, me has dado”. Los pondrás ante el Señor, tu Dios, y te postrarás en presencia del Señor, tu Dios.
And you shall feast on all the good things which the Lord your God will give to you and to your house: you, and the Levite, and the new arrival who is with you.11 Y te regocijarás con el levita y el emigrante que vivan en tu vecindad, por todos los bienes que el Señor, tu Dios, te haya dado, a ti y a tu casa.
When you will have completed the tithing of all your crops, in the third year of tithes, you shall give it to the Levite, and to the new arrival, and to the orphan, and to the widow, so that they may eat within your gates and be satisfied.12 Cada tres años, el año del diezmo, cuando termines de separar el diezmo de todas tus cosechas y se lo hayas dado al levita, al emigrante, al huérfano y a la viuda, para que coman hasta saciarse en tus ciudades,
And you shall say, in the sight of the Lord your God: ‘I have taken what was sanctified from my house, and I have given it to the Levite, and to the new arrival, and to the orphan and the widow, just as you have commanded me. I have not transgressed your commandments, nor have I forgotten your precepts.13 dirás ante el Señor, tu Dios: “He apartado de mi casa lo consagrado; se lo he dado al levita, al emigrante, al huérfano y a la viuda, conforme al precepto que me mandaste. No he quebrantado ni olvidado ningún precepto.
I have not eaten from these things in my grief, nor have I separated them due to any kind of uncleanness, nor have I expended any of these things in funerals. I have obeyed the voice of the Lord my God, and I have done all things just as you have instructed me.14 No he comido de ello estando de luto, ni lo he apartado estando impuro, ni se lo he ofrecido a un muerto. He escuchado la voz del Señor, mi Dios, he cumplido lo que me mandaste.
Look with favor from your sanctuary and from your lofty habitation amid the heavens, and bless your people Israel and the land which you have given to us, just as you swore to our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.’15 Mira desde tu santa morada, desde el cielo, y bendice a tu pueblo, Israel, y a esta tierra que nos diste, como habías jurado a nuestros padres, una tierra que mana leche y miel”.
Today the Lord your God has instructed you to carry out these commandments and judgments, and to keep and fulfill them, with all your heart and with all your soul.16 Hoy el Señor, tu Dios, te manda que cumplas estos mandatos y decretos. Acátalos y cúmplelos con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma.
Today, you have chosen the Lord to be your God, so that you may walk in his ways, and keep his ceremonies and commandments and judgments, and obey his command.17 Hoy has elegido al Señor para que él sea tu Dios y tú vayas por sus caminos, observes sus mandatos, preceptos y decretos, y escuches su voz.
Today, the Lord has chosen you, so that you may be his particular people, just as he has spoken to you, and so that you may keep all his precepts,18 Y el Señor te ha elegido para que seas su propio pueblo, como te prometió, y observes todos sus preceptos.
and so that he may cause you to be more exalted than all the nations which he has created, for the sake of his own praise and name and glory, in order that you may be a holy people for the Lord your God, just as he has spoken.”19 Él te elevará en gloria, nombre y esplendor, por encima de todas las naciones que ha hecho, y serás el pueblo santo del Señor, tu Dios, como prometió».
