Deuteronomy 23

1 “A eunuch, one whose testicles have been debilitated or cut off, or whose penis has been cut off, shall not enter into the church of the Lord.	1 L'eunuque, dans lequel ce que Dieu a destiné à la conservation de l'espèce aura été ou retranché ou blessé d'une blessure incurable, n'entrera point dans l'assemblée du Seigneur.
2 The offspring of a harlot, that is, one born of a prostitute, shall not enter into the church of the Lord, until the tenth generation.	2 Celui qui est bâtard, c'est-à-dire qui est né d'une femme prostituée, n'entrera point dans l'assemblée du Seigneur jusqu'à la dixième génération.
3 The Ammonite and the Moabite, even after the tenth generation, shall not enter into the church of the Lord forever,	3 L'Ammonite et le Moabite n'entreront jamais dans l'assemblée du Seigneur, pas même après la dixième génération,
4 because they were not willing to meet you with bread and water along the way, when you had departed from Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam, the son of Beor, from Mesopotamia in Syria, in order to curse you.	4 parce qu'ils n'ont pas voulu venir au-devant de vous avec du pain et de l'eau, lorsque vous étiez en chemin, après votre sortie d'Egypte ; et parce qu'ils ont gagné et fait venir contre toi Balaam, fils de Béor, de la Mésopotamie de Syrie, afin qu'il te maudît.
5 But the Lord your God was not willing to listen to Balaam, and he turned his cursing into your blessing, because he loves you.	5 Mais le Seigneur ton Dieu ne voulut point écouter Balaam ; et, parce qu'il t'aimait, il obligea Balaam de te donner des bénédictions au lieu des malédictions (qu'il voulait te donner).
6 You shall not make peace with them, nor shall you seek their prosperity, throughout all the days of your life forever.	6 Tu ne feras point de paix avec ces peuples, et tu ne leur procureras jamais aucun bien tant que tu vivras.
7 You shall not abhor anyone from Idumea, for he is your brother, nor the Egyptian, for you were a new arrival in his land.	7 Tu n'auras pas l'Iduméen en abomination, parce qu'il est ton frère ; ni l'Egyptien, parce que tu as été étranger en son pays.
8 Those who have been born of them, in the third generation, shall enter into the church of the Lord.	8 Ceux qui seront nés de ces deux peuples entreront à la troisième génération dans l'assemblée du Seigneur.
9 When you have gone out to war against your enemies, you shall keep yourself from everything that is evil.	9 Lorsque tu marcheras contre tes ennemis pour les combattre, tu auras soin de t'abstenir de toute action mauvaise.
10 If there is a man among you who has been defiled by a dream in the night, he shall depart from the camp.	10 Si un homme d'entre vous a souffert quelque chose d'impur dans un songe pendant la nuit, il sortira hors du camp,
11 And he shall not return before the evening, after he has washed with water, and then, after the sun sets, he shall return to the camp.	11 et il n'y reviendra point jusqu'à ce qu'au soir il se soit lavé dans l'eau ; et, après le coucher du soleil, il reviendra dans le camp.
12 You shall have a place beyond the camp to which you may go for the necessities of nature,	12 Tu auras un lieu hors du camp où tu iras pour tes besoins naturels.
13 carrying a small shovel at your belt. And when you would sit down, you shall dig around, and then, with the soil that was dug up, you shall cover	13 Et portant un bâton pointu à ta ceinture, lorsque tu voudras te soulager (t'asseoir), tu feras un creux en rond, et tu recouvriras les excréments de terre (ce qui est sorti de toi)
14 that from which you were relieved. For the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp, in order to rescue you, and to deliver your enemies to you. And so, let your camp be holy, and let nothing filthy appear within it, lest he abandon you.	14 après t'être soulagé (relevé de là). (Car le Seigneur ton Dieu marche au milieu de ton camp pour te délivrer de tout péril, et pour te livrer tes ennemis.) Ainsi tu auras soin que ton camp soit pur et saint, et qu'il n'y paraisse rien qui le souille (aucune saleté), de peur que le Seigneur ne t'abandonne.
15 You shall not deliver a servant who has fled to you to his master.	15 Tu ne livreras point entre les mains de son maître l'esclave qui s'est réfugié chez toi.
16 He shall live with you in a place that pleases him, and he shall rest in one of your cities. You shall not grieve him.	16 Il demeurera parmi toi au lieu où il lui plaira, et il trouvera le repos et la sûreté dans quelqu'une de tes villes, sans que tu lui fasses aucune peine.
17 There shall be no prostitutes among the daughters of Israel, nor anyone among the sons of Israel who visits a prostitute.	17 Il n'y aura point de femme prostituée (publique) d'entre les filles d'Israël, ni de fornicateur (prostitué) d'entre les enfants d'Israël.
18 You shall not offer money from a prostitute, nor the price of a dog, in the house of the Lord your God, no matter what you may have vowed. For both of these are an abomination with the Lord your God.	18 Tu n'offriras point dans la maison du Seigneur ton Dieu la récompense de la prostituée, ni le prix du chien, quelque vœu que tu aies fait : parce que l'un et l'autre sont abominables devant le Seigneur ton Dieu.
19 You shall not lend money, or grain, or anything else at all, to your brother at interest,	19 Tu ne prêteras à usure à ton frère ni de l'argent, ni du grain, ni quelque autre chose que ce soit,
20 but only to a foreigner. For you shall lend to your brother whatever he needs without interest, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all your works in the land, which you shall enter so as to possess it.	20 mais seulement aux étrangers. Tu prêteras à ton frère ce dont il aura besoin, sans en tirer aucun intérêt ; afin que le Seigneur ton Dieu te bénisse en tout ce que tu feras dans le pays dont tu dois entrer en possession.
21 When you have made a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not be late in paying it. For the Lord your God demands it. And if you delay, it shall be imputed to you as a sin.	21 Lorsque tu auras fait un vœu au Seigneur ton Dieu, tu ne différeras point de l'accomplir, parce que le Seigneur ton Dieu t'en demandera compte, et que si tu diffères, cela te sera imputé à péché.
22 If you are not willing to make a promise, then it shall be without sin.	22 Tu seras exempt de péché si tu ne veux faire aucune promesse ;
23 But as soon as it has departed from your lips, you shall observe and do just as you have promised to the Lord your God and just as you have spoken by your own free will and with your own mouth.	23 mais, lorsqu'une fois la parole sera sortie de ta bouche, tu l'accompliras, et tu feras selon ce que tu as promis au Seigneur ton Dieu, l'ayant fait de ta propre volonté, et l'ayant déclaré par ta bouche.
24 Upon entering your neighbor’s vineyard, you may eat as many grapes as you please. But you may not carry any out with you.	24 Quand tu entreras dans la vigne de ton prochain, tu pourras manger des raisins autant que tu voudras ; mais tu n'en apporteras point dehors avec toi.
25 If you enter into your friend’s grain field, you may break off the ears, and rub them in your hand, but you may not reap them with a sickle.”	25 Si tu entres dans les blés de ton ami, tu en pourras cueillir des épis et les froisser (broyer) avec la main ; mais tu n'en pourras pas couper avec la faucille (faux).
